Nintendo Switch

With evidence that a few review outlets have received units from Nintendo, I suspect we'll start to see a lot more answers to our questions in the coming week. So in these last few days before our enlightenment, what are your hopes for the Switch and its online elements? Virtual Console offerings?

Remember Wii Play? Those Wii motes were quite expensive but they bundled in a game of mini games so you didn't feel ripped off and Wii Play was really good. They should have done that.

Wii Sports 3 (Switch Sports) has to happen - there's Miis and motion control and HD rumble now. I'll be getting an extra set of controllers when that happens.

Wii Sports was bundled with the machine and Wii Play was bundled with an extra wii mote, right?

Boys ordered a Switch each yesterday. Younger one went for neon because he's a small child.

They're £233 from Amazon if you live in Jersey. (Switchs, not small boys, small boys are about £500 depending on condition) That snippet is for Crown Dependacy fans.

He just said that.

Wii Sports was bundled, the sequel Wii Sports Resort was a stand alone title. Switch Sports needs to happen. I really liked Kinect Sports on the 360 and the way it was presented - I'd like to see something like that on the Switch.

Are light gun games going to be possible on this?

I've had a pro controller preordered on Amazon for a while but are there any better deals anywhere?

It's always been £5 cheaper on the official Nintendo UK store and base.com sold them for £55 at one point so might be worth keeping a lookout on their site.

Virtua Cop 1 & 2 plus House of The Dead sit it my cupboard unused these days as I no longer have a CRT TV, casualties of technology progression :(. SEGA pls remake VC 1 & 2.

Virtual-On as well please, that would be brilliant with the joycons.

Some of the games are better than I expected but a lot of them look awful.

Yeah, saw a giantbomb video where the Nintendo peeps are on one team and the GiantBomb guys on the other and it seems better than I had expected.  Still a couple of games that looked not much fun though.

Ha ha :D saw an ARMs video and it took me back to Virtual On for some reason.

Just the most amazing game. Never spent somon one game though. Two sets of import twin sticks must have cost me £300! Makes Samba de Amigo seem like a bargain in comparison.

Polygon: Nintendo is already repeating the Wii U's mistakes with the Switch

Not packing in 1,2, Switch for free is one mistake (though it doesn't look like anything I'd spend much time with even if it was free - and for a party game Jackbox is much more sociable and includes 8 players).

Failing to showcase the online UI 2 weeks from release is, I think, legitimately another concern.

The hardware is more desirable than the Wii U. The Neon looks fantastic. But still... is Nintendo learning? People above talking about all the great potential. DO you trust Nintendo to deliver on that potential? Remember when they dripfed identical HD ports of Wii Sports games on to the Wii U one at a time with no fanfare? Remember when they didn't even upscale Wii games for the Wii U Virtual Console despite the fact emulators have been doing so for years. Remember accounts tied to hardware etc. etc.

And then I remember the price point we're going in at here.

I think the main concern is that Nintendo haven't heard or accepted the criticisms levelled at the Wii U, and are arrogantly thinking if they can market the machine better this time, that will drive sales, whilst their software and online output can remain pretty much business-as-usual.

(still got that pre-order btw)

Nah, the stuff that haven't shown yet is so great that to reveal it would lead to chronic stock shortages and mass disappointment. So dry your eyes, mate.

I think for me the biggest mistake right now... the lack of physical games to buy.  It happens at every system launch I get that crazy itch to go and buy any old junk in games but a visit to Amazon right now and all I can see are games months away or dust balls there's just nothing of note, as good as Zelda is it's not going to keep people satisfied for months on end. The software launch line up is just so incredibly limited, they should have just stuck out the likes of Shovel Knight onto carts, even offering to publish other online indie titles themselves as carts just to get physical things in the shops and let them tail off later.

It's a shame Bomberman R appears to be such an unimaginative update, because  the art style is great and if they actually put some thought and fresh ideas, it could've cleaned up as the second go-to title along with Zelda.

Still, I imagine it'll still do well, relatively, given how sparse the launch is.

It's made by Konami isn't it? Be thankful it's not a Pachinko machine simulator.

I don't know but I'm starting to have doubts on my pre-order.  I've just got so many other games on the go at the moment.  After Zelda I'm not sure what else I want.  £300 odd pounds is a lot for 1 game. Pre buyers remorse I don't know.
