As a PS4 owner I won't be able to play Cuphead/Hollow Knight - seems like a huge mistake for an indie not to release these on the biggest console platform available.

Unless it has been paid for by a platform holder, it'll arrive at some point in the future, so Cuphead is probably dicey as Microsoft seem to be paying for it to be made. Having just checked, they confirmed it was being funded by Microsoft a while ago and is forever exclusive as a result. The other game isn't platform holder funded so will likely appear elsewhere at some point.

I can't believe people are actually defending the 1-hour play sessions for an online beta.

Just have it open during the entire weekend? Just like every other free online beta we've had since the beginning of online betas. They will probably have a limit again on the amount of times you get to play a demo on the Switch as well. It's yer typical 'two steps forward, one step back'-Nintendo.

Nice big leak of information on reddit about the Switch and it's developer information and SDK etc. Also confirms that the dev kit that was leaked (and people said was fake) was actually real. The specs are exactly what everyone said they were (1 Tflop FP16 GPU (Maxwell tegra) with ARM 4xA57 at 2GHZ). Game card sizes vary from 1gig to 32 gig is size (But could very well go much higher). So no surprises at all.

Has all the details. Interesting early versions of the home screen etc.

Fuck yo numbers, man. This is what we all actually needed to know:

HD Rumble's technical name is a Linear resonant actuator

Weird. It feels like someone is playing 1-2-Switch with my balls.

If you taped the joycons to your balls, would the HD Rumble do that...... nope. That's just wrong.

I'm really happy with the hands on reviews I've read - including the excellent post in this thread. I am so looking forward to this as the hardware looks and sounds top class. I genuinely believe that when this is out, in the wild, people will be showing other people who will want one as £280 isn't that much money for a bit of mobile tech. Phones are stupidly expensive. My watch cost more than £280 and that's a mobile bit of kit. The 3DS was like that. I was amazed when @Harmunt showed me the 3DS augmented reality software on his when he got one - I was a bit meh when he put some cards on a table but shit, when it did that thing on the table, in front of my eyes, I was all HOLY SHIT. It was really impressive and I think this'll be the same when Mario Kart comes out.

Yeah Cuphead would be very unlikely. Also it's gameplay looked very ropey last time it was shown. The platforming bit's were awful.

I assume that is because it was originally a boss rush game inspired by the works of Treasure (RIP) and they only added the platforming sections when they found out the amount of people interested in a boss rush only title wasn't that great, though the commercial performance of Treasure's own acclaimed boss rush title should have told them that already.

I can't believe some people are either so desperate to pick at anything related to Nintendo, or just so unwilling to be in any way positive about them, that they'll see being given free access to a forthcoming Nintendo game as anything other than a positive. It's going to be available for 6 hours over three days - enjoy it, rather than getting all upset about the hours it's not going to be there.

No one's upset though? (I'm not anyway)

And it's more funny than upsetting really. Specific play times for an online beta?... Who else but Nintendo!

A phone isn't really a phone though these days, it's a digital Swiss Army Knife which does so many things that people can justify the price, plus it's mentally obfuscated for most people by mobile subscription fees. I wouldn't quite say the same for a single purpose device.

I hate mobile phones and only use mine for the odd picture and phone calls and texts. Maybe I'm a bit wrong with that analogy but for me, something that replaces my DS and Wii U is well worth £280 - especially when it's going to be a top quality bit of hardware that works properly. I have every confidence Nintendo won't make a crap console, they never have. You can throw software criticisms at Nintendo (more recently when 3rd part support is important) but their stuff is usually really well made.

I owned a Gamecube and an original Xbox at the same time and using the Gamecube was so much better, it was silent, never got hot and everything it was supposed to do, it did. The Xbox was so loud, getting it online was a pain in the ass and although it was a great console, it was obvious, compared to my Nintendo console, that it was a first attempt. 360 and a Wii, the Wii was again a silent, tiny little thing. Wii U and a 360, the same. I don't own a PS4 or an Xbox One but I doubt they're better built than a Wii U. My Snes still works.

Not the greatest example when the titanfall open betas put off most of the titanfall players from buying the sequel, we were mostly wrong but it didnt do sales any favours..

It wasn't an example. I was saying @VN1X is the greatest Titanfall player of all time.

Do you get demos for free on the Xbox? Thought you needed Gold.

No. In the past you got early access to some demos with Gold but I'm not sure they bother with that anymore. All the demos on the store are free, however online Betas may require Gold, because you can't play online without it.

Every report I've seen from people who have played the Switch all say how nice the screen is, how brilliant the games look on it and how vibrant the colours are. Everyone says you have to see it in person to appreciate it which is very encouraging.

The best thing about Nintendo is how they keep going backwards but get defended for it. I don't really care about the splat test fest but it just doesn't seem like the move of a company trying to compete on service offerings.

You're on a forum full of people that work in IT so when a few people tell you it's likely down to a Stress test, then you'd probably do well to take on board those opinions.

Doing it over a weekend or over 5 days won't get the same level of sustained traffic that a series of 1 hour slots would.  I fully expect it to meltdown in the first 1 hour slot.  Then it'll get better as Nintendo (or whoever runs their online infrastructure) tweaks or add servers for the next slot.  Does it mean that there is more publicity and buzz around those slots?  Of course! and well done on Nintendo for doing it a little different.
