Do we know exactly how the Switch connects to the dock. It looks like people just drop it in, but presumably there's a USB C connector stuck up inside the dock, which are a snug fit. So are there guide rails or pegs or something inside the dock?

I guess also the dock has some heft, otherwise I could imagine a USB-C connection having enough grip to lift the dock when you lift out the Switch.

And so my point... It's a stupid situation, I honestly know so, but...

my brain tells me that something else enforcing LESS games might well be a good thing.

We'll see if you're singing the same tune when Nintendo generously give you the chance to rent NES Soccer for a whole month. Now with online play!

There's nowhere to plug in the sensor bar.

It's not happening.  There is no IR pointer functionality.

They could bring out a new sensor, an adapter so the current sensor bar attaches by USB or even a couple of LED tealights. ;) It only needs a source of power, it doesn't need to be attached to the console. But yeah, if that had been the intention I would think they'd have a neater solution out of the box rather than having to buy other accessories. Unless they're holding back on something of course.

There are two guide prongs so it's seated properly. I think the Wii U dock has something similar, but it's so long since I used it I might be misremembering.

Edit: Beaten to the punch and looking like I've just copied clippa's post.  Images are from a reddit post about it:

Trying to keep up here but is the general suggestion, close to 3 weeks to launch, that the Switch has some funky hidden IR feature to mimic the Wii Remote for the Virtual Console that they haven't really talked about yet?

I'm no expert but surely if the joycons could double up as wii remotes they'd be shouting about that from the off?

This infographic from the Switch Facebook page just in! (I know it's old but they haven't added anything about a wii remote function)

Wonder how many people will think there are actually things rolling around inside it after reading it.

It could have, and it was suggested at the time the IR camera was first rumoured that they'd be part of the dock. But for that to work the dock would need to be centred in front of the TV, which isn't how Nintendo have been showing it in promo images. It could work in kickstand mode if there are two IR beams on the Switch itself, but I don't think they'd want something to work in one mode and not another, but then that goes back to what I've said about touchscreen games.

I don't think the sensor bar would necessarily need to be centred so long as there's a way to tell the console where the TV is in relation to the dock.

I still don't think this is happening though.

The Wii sensor needed to be centred with the TV or the pointer would be off whack. The IR camera in the Wiimote is looking for lights either side of the bar to recognise where you're pointing. The camera is better in the Joycon, but I can't see how it would work without a similar setup. I did see it suggested that because it recognises shapes it could "see" where the TV is and map movement to that, but I'm not sure that would actually work.

If amazon have a load more stock, how come my neon preorder is still 9th march?

The grey one is still ready for launch day, mind.

Yeah mine's stil saying the 9th too. Hopefully just not been updated. I would be very surprised if I don't get it launch day. Ordered a grey one with Nintendo too just in case...

I'm suggesting it would be possible to add an offset so the sensor doesn't need to be centred.

I was thinking more of it being at a jaunty angle like it is on the box, or completely off to the side like it is in image below. I guess if it allows for offset that could still work though. Having a look at other images on Nintendo's site, it is almost always shown directly underneath the TV.
