So the guy in the video says the joycons are charging passively whenever they're docked. He didn't say anything about the switch being docked or not.

I wonder how much difference it will make to portable battery life if your joycon are attached and charging vs fully charged/pro controller/grip

If it really makes a difference, I'd like to hope they are either only charging when the console is docked, or only charging when undocked when they are really dead.

To be fair, it'd have to be a pretty special occasion where you manage to let the 20+ hour battery life controllers that live neatly docked to the side of the console go dead whilst not having a console with a 2-6 hour battery life be dead too...

@cassidy Switch has Bluetooth apparently - whether they allow generic Bluetooth devices is another matter. Both Sony and Microsoft are dicks in this regard so I wouldn't hold my breath for Nintendo to be any different.

Cheers Sony allow it though. Bluetooth is fine with my Vita.

Is there another info dump on the system itself due? - re the app, online, online membership cost, VC etc?

Nope. They're presumably still working details out as it doesn't make any sense to be holding back on key information at this stage. <_<

You're right, I'm so used to my PS4 controllers' 3 hour battery

I'm afraid that's the opposite of the case - Nintendo have been open about the system's reduced performance in portable mode; from Eurogamer last December:

Now, the fact that many games will be running at a lower resolution in handheld mode will help (I hope most developers will avoid targeting 720p docked, as if they do so there would have to be some serious sacrifices for the handheld mode of said games), but that's still something developers are going to have to work around.

You've not quite grasped how the setup is designed to work - Switch is targeting 1080p in docked mode, and the portable mode cuts back exactly in-line with making that 720p in handheld mode - the CPU remains the same (since the game logic etc has to remain the same), just the GPU clocks lower right inline with the reduced power needed to render at the lower resolution. The relationship between the two clock speeds is pretty much as expected. With a target of 1080p in docked mode and 720p in undocked mode, there's a 2.25x difference in pixels to be rendered, so a 2.5x difference in clock speeds would give developers a roughly equivalent amount of GPU performance per pixel in both modes.

You won't be seeing games that run worse in portable mode. I suspect the worst you'll see is the opposite - games that don't make it all the way up to 1080p in docked mode (like Zelda which just jumps to something around 900p).

And even then, Nintendo admitted they haven't taken full advantage of Switch with Zelda, as it was ported quickly. I'd imagine most games will be able to hit 1080p in docked mode.

Ballbags. I'm after Zelda but everywhere is sold out of pre-orders. How is that even possible? Have they made less copies of Zelda then Switch consoles?

I'm going digital this time, but one cart would have been nice to have at least. I don't really fancy a 2hr download immediately after setting up either, plus however long a system update might take whilst their network is getting hammered.

The chances of the eShop being up and running by launch are pretty much guaranteed, right? How else are people going to get the advertised DL-only stuff, otherwise.

Where are you finding Zelda sold out? There are plenty of online stores that have got it to pre-order.  Even Argos has it if you want to get it from a high-street shop.

As for the eShop: I don't think even Nintendo would be that stupid not to have it up and running at launch, but as they're being quiet about that side of things at the moment, who knows.

I'm almost 100% confident there will be plenty of available Zelda stock on launch day. I still have preordered the game, I'll walk into Argos or Smyths and pick it up. Hopefully......

Or they know how shit it is and don't want the outrage to lead to a load of cancelled preorders.

Well yeah, there is that, but it isn't like we aren't already aware those things are likely to be shit.

Plus, I don't see them waiting until launch day and being like:

I think it's certain the eShop going to be up on day 1 - we've already had confirmation of multiple digital titles that have a March 3rd release date...

I believe so I can't see it listed on any US/UK stores.

Buggar, I'd have bought a boxed copy of it, but if the pricing is anything like it was on PS4, it will remain out of my purchasing budget and I'll stick to the fan translation on the Vita :(

I think you should be able to pick up a boxed Setsuna fairly easily
