If you feel like reading  Kotaku's last article on the Switch is an interesting one.

I agree with the idea that the Switch does not need that much of a focused demography. Because it is the perfect fit for lower budget games. A bit like Steam

I guess that is the reason why the Switch feels like the perfect fit for games that are not necessarily expensive to make (requiring massive returns)  Games like Arms, I am setsuna, or Super Bomberman R.

Nice read.  Perfect to get the derailed hype train back on track amidst all this talk of prices, sd cards and launch line ups.  It's refreshing to see a bright colour palette and games that look fun, but it's also so Nintendo that I don't think I'd even noticed that there is barely a modern photo realistic title on show.   No fps, no virtual experience set in the real world.

Also pretty hyped for 1,2 Switch now too. :)

Rumours flying around that Rockstar is porting L.A Noire to the Switch. That would certainly be a....choice. I think it's safe to say literally nobody is asking for another chance to play as the world's least sensitive, most erratic detective.

And then when it sells poorly all we will hear is how third party titles don't sell on Nintendo hardware.

Is Switch powerful enough to do PS3? GTA V?

If the tegra chip is any indication, it should be able to do GTA V perfectly fine.  In portable mode, the Switch should still be more powerful than a PS3, and when docked it should be about 3-4 more powerful than a PS3. But we don't know the official specs of this custom chip.  We still don't even know if they went with maxwell or pascal.  So it's all just speculation.  But it should be in the neighboor of about 1tflop docked, and less than that with portable, to conserve energy.  I'd say maybe 400gflops in portable mode.

You have to remember that most games that generation ran at 720p.  So even the Wii U is more powerful than a PS3 (though not by too much)... but they didn't port GTAV to that.

*secret gay handshake*

Hahahaha, I was wondering if anyone would recognise that.

I was just watching some videos of L.A Noire and the graphics have really dated. It looked great at the time but kind of awful now.

Still, as disappointing as the game was it did provide amazing moments like this, which is literally one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a game

Which means that this time, much like the Sony gets all the Blu-ray licensing money meme (they don't, not by a long shot), Nintendo are going to be paying Microsoft to use their patented technology (but at least this one is way more true, exFAT is a Microsoft product which they solely control)

That's assuming the SD cards are exFAT. Might be fat32, or something custom (like WBFS or something - Wii U hard drives are a custom format so there's prior).

Should.

Some of the numbers further up suggest that in portable mode it's less powerful than a Wii U.

I think we can kill that one - straight from the mouth of Aonuma:

Quote

Jeuxvideo.com: What benefits did you get from the Switch for the development of Zelda Breath of the Wild?

EA: It is more comfortable on Switch since the processor is more powerful than on Wii U, so at the level of the management of the game it was simpler, but I can not say that I master the Switch because the Breath of the Wild of The Switch is a port of the Wii version U. We can not say that my programming teams and I have been around the machine at the moment. But what I can say, what adaptation was very, very fast. It took much less time than I imagined to transpose the game from the Wii U to the Switch.

So, basically, Aonuma is saying that Switch is more powerful, but we shouldn't expect that to show up too much in Zelda as it is a port and they've not spent (or had/been allowed) a great deal of time to optimize it for Switch.

This might also explain some of the earlier confusion around if it was going to make launch or not - and it has in the end, because the porting process was just easier and quicker than they thought it might be.

God, L.A. Noire. Didn't think about that game in absolute ages. What an odd one that was, brief moments of brilliance interspersed by complete WTF design decisions and mad writing. And the 'Noire' part never really going anywhere. I think it's a shame it got such a panning though, as there was a good game hidden in there somewhere and that whole face animation tech was pretty cool. Shame the team never got the chance to follow it up.
