Genuine question from someone who basically grew up without any consoles:

How many launch titles were there for previous Nintendo consoles, like the NES or N64 for example? In comparison? Or are we nowadays just comparing to what Sony and Microsoft are doing with their consoles? Times have changed, obviously.

Personally I'm wondering who on earth has the time and the money to get a new console with tons of launch titles and then play them all right after the launch. And would our kid-selves have complained about there being only Zelda (in terms of new releases) and that 1, 2 Switch game followed by Mario Cart a month later, and not 50 third-party content titles?

Fair enough if someone says they're gonna wait and not buy at launch, but I don't really understand all the complaints about the launch line-up. When did expectations get like this? Or do I just have a wrong image in my head of what is normally supposed to be available this early on? I'm genuinely curious. Been wondering about this for a while and just thought why not fucking ask you guys directly :D (cause my parents wouldn't even let me have a bloody Gameboy so all that stuff just eludes me)

With Wii U and Switch it's more to do with not having anything mind blowing from the word go that's the complaint, in my eyes. Whilst GC had a genuinely great line-up here in the UK for launch, N64 was just as barren of releases at first, but gets a free pass for BLOWING OUR MINDS with Mario 64. Pilotwings and Turok felt like extra toppings on that cake.

I think it's also the fact the future isn't exactly clear yet in regards to the so-called 80 games that's in development. Mario will be no doubt brilliant, but the horizon needs much more then that to justify the system...

...to a normal person. Not me, I have mine ordered for day one!

PS. And truth be told, lets not forget that Nintendo's E3 last year was entirely Zelda. One would have hoped it was justified so that the Switch got off as strong as it could. That doesn't appear to be the case and it's actually rather sad. Zelda is also on Wii U, so from a business perspective that damages Switch release day from the get go. (regardless of how 'few' own a Wii U, that 'few' is the majority of Rllmuk) They really needed more than a game was was going to be originally released Holiday 2015.

N64 had 4 titles on launch in japan and only 2 in america, although they were Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64 so that helped it be fucking awesome. SNES had 3 in the UK, Mario world, F-zero and super tennis. So while they had few titles it helped that those titles were great. Having a lot of titles on launch day only really started around the PS2/Gamecube era.

The Switch probably has the fewest launch titles of any console anytime, even the ones that were niche, small, irrelevant or died. I mean, Wii U had 21.

Not even close. Also remember that there will likely be eshop games on the day of launch as well so that 7 on launch day could be a few more.

I do hope the retail games will include Nintendo coins in them, really is a bad decision if they're going to carry on keeping them to digital purchases only.

NES Classic had coins with it, so it's not impossible.

So search Amazon for the Switch and it says it's unavailable and they've sold their initial allocation.

Use this link however and you can preorder one for day 1 delivery - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M6ZGICT/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_e8qHybEADG6H2

Bit dodge?

The main listing shows that they've sold out of their launch allocation, so I wouldn't bet on getting it for launch through that.

Possibly a cancellation? I cancelled my Amazon preorder on Friday and and kept my shopto one.

Nah, it lets you add 999 to your basket. It's odd the product page lets you order, but I would guess they're marking it as unavailable in the search because they don't know what their stock allocation is yet.

Playing quite a bit with the Wii U over the past few days and I can actually see why Nintendo are having a separate "online" app.

Miiverse is a brilliant app, but it's really quite clunky at knowing who's online, what they're playing etc and I think it's down to the fact that you need to come out of whatever game you're playing and start Miiverse - which isn't instant and takes some time to get going.

Its also really designed around around a touch screen interface, so a docked Switch is going to be crao for making posts, browsing threads etc. It would be much better having it on a separate device and I guess most people have a smart device of some kind, so it makes sense having it on a phone or tablet.

So hopefully the online app is really just Miiverse plus it received a pretty big makeover recently, so I doubt Nintendo would just write that all off.

I think charging for it isn't so great, but even if it wasn't a separate App, it looks like Nintendo were going to charge for online anyway which is a shame.

The charging for online is e only thing that mig put me off an initial purchase depending on the price. £39 for six games a month across three consoles I own, which happens to include online play s amazing. Even if it was just the two PS4 games a month it would be worth it.

Two NES/SNES games for a single month? Sounds bollocks. It better be cheap, like couple of quid a month cheap.

Having voice chat through my phone would actually be rather decent for me - I'll be able to do it through an AirPod without pairing it up with my Switch or any of that nonsense.

I guess there'll be no way of hearing the game audio and doing voice chat through the same pair of headphones though?
