Yeah, I've said it before: NSMBU is SMW2 in all but name. Its fantastic.

I keep saying this over on LiteracyDown but get shot down for it every time. It's funny how general forum opinions can differ so much.

Does it slot in the top?  If so that's going to to problematic inside a unit.

Can the dock lie down? It'll be like having a NES all over again.

In all seriousness I'm wondering if the inside of the dock comes with some furry little pads which prevent the screen from scraping against the plastic. Has anyone had a closer look inside to see if that's the case or not? I might try buying some myself if not.

I genuinely doubt that Nintendo will release a console that breaks itself. We can bemoan the relatively limited availability of software that you can purchase on 3rd March and we can legitimately be worried about 3rd party support however, one thing Nintendo do well is hardware. I've only ever had one issue with Nintendo hardware and I've bought at least ten consoles/handhelds (my Snes still works). The only issue I ever had was a laser problem on my Wii when it was 2 1/2 years old as it wouldn't read discs. It cost £20ish to send it back and get it fixed. There's a first for everything but I'd be very surprised if Nintendo designed a dock that scratched the screen on the handheld.

I'm sharing my Switch with my 7 year old son. We're going to have to spend the next 6 weeks ensuring he understands fully how to treat it.

I may even ban him from playing it undocked. Need to keep it pristine.

Girls FTW.

The original 3DS had issues with the bottom portion of the console imprinting on the top screen leaving a mark.

I never bought one so wasn't aware of that. No red rings.

The only major one I can remember was the Virtual Boy giving people headaches, seizures and killing puppies.

Yeah, for the Wii and 3DS launches they sent out the super saver delivery orders first, and then the expedited orders ('they arrive quicker so they can go last!'). But they didn't leave enough time to send them all out. So you have people like me who'd ordered months and months prior, who didn't get their console on launch day, and Johnny Casual who'd ordered the day before and got his on launch day.

Things have changed a lot since then, the Wii launch was over 10 years ago for Christ's sake, but it still hurts.

tl;dr: I've ordered a Switch from Amazon.

Past launches when people were fretting over their mailorders arriving/not arriving/partially arriving, I usually just walked into a store and picked it up even without a pre-order.

This time people will once again get burned; delivery companies fucking up,  shipments sent out  too late or incomplete, parcels left on porches, being in the toilet when the courier rings...

And then I will ask, just like every other time before,  why on EARTH do you rely on online retailers AND the postal services when you want  something NOW?

I preordered my Wii U Premium from Amazon. The console arrived the day before official launch, and they honoured an earlier misprice (the main reason why I bought a Wii U at launch), but... the bundle arrived with the Nintendo Land game torn out of the box. Needed several angry phone calls before Amazon sent me a boxed copy of the game.

I would rather take all the risks than shop in Game. Where else is left? Supermarkets?

So, yeah, if I was preordering a Switch, it wouldn't be from Amazon.

I know Nintendo stuff is very reliable, however I fell victim to the original 3DS clamshell bit of cack design where the top screen would rub against the lower screen bezel. Luckily I had a screen protector on.

Because I'd need to make a 60 mile round trip to collect it AND give my business to Game :coffee:

The perpetual chasing of ever higher resolutions is nuts. It puts such an insane strain on GPUs/CPUs that you end up with fuck all grunt for anything else. Same for daft as a brush anti-aliasing. Just spend the cycles on 'good enough res' and then kick ass semi-transparencies everywhere, fuck tons of polys and buttery 60fps.
