Sorry for clogging the thread, but that signature is not on.

Yes.  A pm surely would have been ok, or indeed a message to a mod who would contact me.

Alternatively, I'm sure that modern boards have features that allow you to block all posts by an individual, since you obviously have a problem with me.

Sorry to everyone else for this thread drift, but on the subject of my signature...

It's actually a quote from a post by another rllmuker.

I can't find the post so either rllmuk doesn't go back far enough, or I suck at using the search facility.

I'm sure it was 12+ years ago, pre-Wii release, but after the announcement, much like now with the Switch.

There were strong discussions surrounding Nintendo's aim to use motion based controllers.

I read it and laughed, and wondered if it'd ever be completely true, and set it as my sig.  Here we are over a decade later, and it seems that it wasn't the future of gaming, but the future of political correctness means that it's no longer acceptable.

Happy to change it, makes no odds to me.

Apologies if this got asked but how are you supposed to play with headphones on if you also want to play online and chat?

There will be a Nintendo App for mobile that I assume will use bluetooth so you will receive game audio and chat through headset of choice.

Nintendo haven't announced exactly how it will work.

Anybody familiar with play-asia these days and possible customs charges?

I bought the special Japanese edition of Lost Oddysey (the one with the better boxart) for 360. Didn't get any additional charges but that was eons ago.

In other words... no idea.

Lunch titles and 'shite and expensive' shocker.

The point I'm trying to make is that Nintendo aren't in Microsoft or Sony's position. They do not have a flock of third partys who will support the machine no matter. The Switch's launch and first year is going to be crucial, far more so than it was for MS or Sony.

The pricing on the retro stuff is baffling, £50 for Bomberman, £50 for a 17-year old Street Fighter that's £8 on other platforms with a couple of palette swaps, I bet Sonic Mania being retro themed will end up being £50, and their retro games online service will be the same.

It's probably got the most nostalgia pandering of any Nintendo console so far.

The biggest problem of the launch line-up is the lack of a decent party game. If there was a Monkey Ball, a Micromachines, a 4 player warioware. It would be a total win.

I would not even need to buy joycons as soon as someone else with another Switch shows up.

(At work there are already 2 others with preorders and a few quite interested to see the thing, which is mindblowing imo)

Why does everyone continue to blame Nintendo for the pricing strategy of other publishers?

"Typical Nintendo, gouging us on price for Bomberman and Street Fighter"

It's Nintendo's job to organise software for their machine? So if they looked at launch and what they had was Zelda, Just Dance, a minigame compilation, a £50 Bomberman game and whatever the other launch game is then it was their job not to launch their machine with that utter shit representing it.

Thanks Konami! Only £50 for a bomberman game what a steal.

So.. having a set up for 8-player mode (3 extra Joycon pairs + the game) would cost you about £260 (on top of the cost of the console..)

Can phones act as an Bluetooth audio receiver?  It would have to advertise itself as a speaker wouldn't it?  Then the phone would need to also act as a Bluetooth source for your headphones at the same time and re-transmit the incoming Bluetooth audio out to your headphones.  Given a lot of phones/Bluetooth headphones have sync issues just watching YouTube videos I struggle to see this double Bluetooth thing working.

I think it's more likely that the Switch & App talk over WiFi leaving the phone able to use any mic/headphone combo that it supports.  To do online chat away from the home you'd simply enable the hotspot on your phone which would provide internet & voice connectivity to the switch.

Just checked, Zelda is the only launch game in the original reveal. I wonder why they chose Skyrim, Mario Kart, Splatoon and an NBA game to demonstrate it instead of the stellar launch lineup?

Pretty sure those games would be overlooked somewhat next to Zelda, better releasing them a little later.

Oh I agree. But I would argue that in these circumstances, it's up to Nintendo to encourage third partys not to attempt to make a quick buck and then run. Offer to give them piggyback PR. Free Directs. Dev help. Cash. Sweeteners whatever. Because make no mistake that's what third partys will be eyeing up. A quick in and out in the initial year.

I don't know what technical limitations the devices have, i'm just guessing how it would work going by what has been said by Nintendo. An example of which was said is in this video:.

I watched that as if I can't use my Bluetooth headphones for normal play with the switch then I'll be cancelling my pre-order.  Wifi just seems to make more sense to me for the console app communication link leaving Bluetooth as an option for the headset.

I'm sure Reggie isn't very clued up on how it all works and what technologies are used either, he's possibly winging it. Until more info comes out we won't know anything except chat seems to require a smart phone app to function.

The memories are flooding back.  It posted in a pre-Wii thread as an example of how UK:R predicted the future.

Interestingly, and back on topic, one of the last posts on UK:R was the 3DS launch line up:

PilotWings Resort
Steel Diver
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Mario Kart 3DS
Nintendogs
Animal Crossing
StarFox 64 3D
Paper Mario

They commented that there was "Nothing really exciting in that lineup worth forking out £200 for"

It's making the Switch line up look mightily bare though, and Ridge Racer 3D isn't even in that list..!!

A six year old 360 port, a yearly sports title and two Wii U ports is hardly an incredible selection that might overpower their new game, it's the bare minimum I'd expect from a console launch. Are you genuinely suggesting that the launch is better for not having the meagre selection of titles from that video and instead spreading them out over six months?

Well sure, if we're just going to post made up lists then that would be fine. The actual 3DS launch list was:

Asphalt 3D - 43%

Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars - 67%

Nintendogs + Cats - 71%

Pilotwings Resort - 71%

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D - 73%

Rayman 3D - 61%

Ridge Racer 3D - 75%

Samurai Warriors: Chronicles - 61%

Super Monkey Ball 3D - 55%

Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition - 85%

The Sims 3 - 52%

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars - 77%

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D - 53%

EDIT: Updated metacritic scores for the launch titles, hardly stellar and actual launch months of some of the games mentioned.

Kid Icarus: Uprising  - March 2012
Mario Kart 3DS - December 2011
Animal Crossing - November 2012
StarFox 64 3D - July 2011
Paper Mario - November 2012

Mario Kart 8 deluxe is clearly finished and could go on launch day but they are holding it back to spread out the releases, the lineup is thin but for the year looks ok - there will be plenty of filler no doubt.

What I don't get is when are they announcing the rest of the system, the UI and what/if any other 'apps' and stuff like the online and chat - is there another event or direct planned before launch??

Pretty sure I heard this from Easy Allies podcast, Daniel Bloodworth was speaking to the developer at the Nintendo Switch New York event on the 12th January and apparently Fast RMX is ready to ship apart from the online side of things which they were waiting on Nintendo for information so they can finalise the game. So if a game dev doesn't know yet there's no chance they will be telling us anything regarding online just yet.

I'll look for the video to post as source.

Edit: Video below.

Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Zelda are the only things besides Smash and Mario that anyone gave a toss about on the WiiU. Smashing three out of five of those for day one would be a bit of an orgasm. How do they follow that?

It's a weak launch but as a first year line up I think it's decent if you're really into Nintendo's first party stuff, Dragon Quest and JRPGs in general and Dynasty Warriors / Musou stuff. Very Japan-centric but loads to chew on. Western third party support is disappointing
