Nintendo don't even care about their own franchises like Metroid and F-Zero enough to give them to people; why do you think they'd give a monkey's toss about Netflix??

F-Zero GX sold just over half a million worldwide, to an install base of 20m GCN owners.

They'd be idiots to invest resources into making another one as good as GX. It would need MK8 levels of development, probably more.

A HD remaster of GX with online play would be the best move. That way they could gauge interest whilst reclaiming some, if not all of, the original 2000-2003 development costs.

Read something about them ot wanting any multimedia apps "like Netflix and YouTube". Am on my phone right now, will look it up later.

Found it, Business Insider apparently. http://uk.businessinsider.com/nintendo-switch-preview-2017-1?utm_content=bufferc0ec5&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer-ti&r=US&IR=T

That link just says "The Switch isn't going to replace your iPad — it's a dedicated gaming machine to the point where it won't have many multimedia functions at launch, Nintendo's Kit Ellis told me. Don't plan to watch Netflix on the Switch, for instance."

To me that sounds like they won't be ready at launch and we will get them eventually. It's not really that surprising considering that most things don't seem to be ready right now.

As someone mentioned earlier - expect a massive initial download to get everything up and running on launch day (that nintendo won't be able to cope with).

That was the single worst thing about the Wii U - how unfinished it was on launch - almost like a prototype. it took years for them to sort even the most basic of stuff.

Does anyone know:

  1. Do the Joy-Cons or Pro Controller have internal speakers, like the Wii remote or DualShock 4?
  2. Does the tablet portion itself (without the Joy-Cons attached) have motion sensors, or rumble?

For the second question, I'm wondering how usable the tablet portion would be standalone.

I mainly see it as a successor for my Vita. I bloody loved my Vita, and I know that if the games will be coming I'm going to love this. I do hope for Nintendo's sake it'll do a lot better than that commercially though.

It is the reincarnation of the Vita who had a complicated life followed by a slow death. Now the vita is back alive (hence its name) but now in a new realm as a main device!!!

Had some more time to think, am now 90% close to canceling my pre-order now. The reasons I previously listed as why having one might be cool (for me personally) seem daft after more thought;

- Being able to play in bed. I don't think I'd want to play 'epic' moments in something like Zelda in bed. Even challenging parts of a game where I'm tapping buttons and getting agitated whilst my other half is trying to sleep.

- Being able to play on planes. Most planes I use don't have a USB/Power socket. It's cramped as it is. Would feel daft bringing a tablet with a big dock in hand baggage. Where do you put it when taking off/landing? I honestly find myself holding my iphone right up to my face when watching movies/tv as I don't like others knowing what I'm watching. So there is no way I'll be able to put a switch on a stand and play Zelda. I'd feel so self conscious about it.

- Better performance on Zelda. Hearing tales of it being better on WiiU but nothing concrete yet (those reports involve old builds of the game). What I'm really waiting are definite waiting times for both. In my head I see Switch Zelda taking 10 seconds to load when you die as opposed to something like 40-60 seconds on WiiU. The more I think about it though this makes no sense and even if it was the case it's not THAT common to die repeatably in a Zelda game.

So I think I'll eventually end up pulling out.

From my understanding, no and no. Speakers on tablet and motion/rumble on joy-con.

If they don't have at least a browser (or youtube app), they're fucking idiots. No way around that one, it would be stupidity of the very highest order.

Yeah it'd be nice to have the ability to export game captures direct to Youtube, I wonder how they are planning on it working.

Ah, Zelda differences;

- Both launch on the same day, March 3.

- Both have a frame rate of 30fps.

- Both versions of the game offer the same content.

- On a TV, the Nintendo Switch version of the game renders in 900p while the Wii U version renders in 720p.

- The Nintendo Switch version has higher-quality environmental sounds. As a result, the sound of steps, water, grass, etc. are more realistic and enhance the game’s Open-Air feel.

- The physical copy of the Wii U version will require 3GB of available memory on the Wii U system or an external drive.

- Some icons, such as onscreen buttons, differ between the two versions.

- A Special Edition and Master Edition of the Wii U version are not available.

On the Giant Bomb podcast they mention there's a strap with a "button enhancer" insert that goes onto the Joycons when detached to make the buttons easier to hit, this is the first I've heard of this, has anyone got any pictures or video?

That sounds like the Joy-Con wrist straps. You get them in the box:

Don't you have a spare room they can go to? If so you don't need to concern yourself with pulling out (oo-er) ;)

I don't think their stupidity/idiocy rests on this alone unfortunately...

Yep, just read that whole piece, it's obviously a very dry write up overall, but the wording does make it sound like they have just not done the deals to get those services on the system yet.

If that's the case I would ask the question, why? Why aren't those deals done before hand? In good time? On schedule? Well thought out? Blah blah blah..

Answer, because Nintendo? Sure other manufacturers suffer from the same issues, but Nintendo consistently seems to have this problem.

Heard rumblings that South Park Fractured But Whole will be on the Switch at the same time as every other version. Quite tempted - was going to pick it up on the PC but a portable version could be cool. Well, unless they cut it like the last game..
