If they provided apps for Youtube and Twitch I would consider buying one.

But I find the entire Switch concept such a difficult thing to place. Who will buy this? I can't see a market for this console.

What would those apps do for you?

Unless they really want to get into the TV media box competition against Sony, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Google, Roku, and of course the TV manufacturers themselves it's just more money/effort.

And if you mean for out and about then that's what a phone is for.

I think it's wise of them to focus on this as a gaming device rather than for the net or multimedia.

I have a phone for that. Practically everyone does. Nintendo know they're a secondary console choice at this point. Leave the multimedia stuff to Sony / MS.

Some pretty big assumptions. They know? Really? They told you?

I think about what I use something similar to the Switch for today. And that would be my Android tablet. Which I use mainly for watching Twitch and Youtube. So for me, a replacement that could do those two things as well as provide we with some quality gaming would something I would consider buying. I wouldn't want to upgrade both my tablet and buy a Switch.

And I can't see the majority of possible consumers walking into a store and choosing a Switch which here in Sweden will sell for 3698:- SEK when you can get a PS4 1Tb Slim with Fifa 17 for 3790:- or a Xbox One S 500Gb with Fifa 17 for 3190:-

To me I can't see anyone but the hardcore Nintendo fans buying a Switch. And there just aren't that many of those left anymore. The Nintendo games aren't the ones people go for now a days.

Agree entirely. I look at the Switch and all I see is a conundrum. What is it? A games console. Okay, but where do you play it? People say anywhere but then other people say everywhere and I'm, like, I don't understand and I am confused and who would buy that.

LOL

I'm not a huge Zelda fan at the best of times but I'm finding myself gagging to play the new one. I hit up the Nintendo site today to order a pro controller, spare charger and a case that reminds me of owning a classic Lynx. I think if you plan to use it as a portable it's going to need some sort of protection.

I'm sort of halfway relieved there's fuck all games at launch because those three accessories set me back 145 quid.

So, this thing won't be getting a Netflix app (or even a YouTube app for that matter) as Nintendo wants this to be a "dedicated gaming machine".

Yeah, no, that's retarded. First Switch news that truly grinds my gears. How the hell do you come out with what's essentially a high-tech TABLET and then DON'T add Netflix to the thing!? This is post-SNES-era levels of Nintendo ignorance and arrogance. They better add that shit ASAP, like they did with the Wii U. Especially now that Netflix has a proper offline mode.

Hear hear. All I wanted was to play vidyagaems in bed and then watch some youtubes after as well.

Well done Nintendo. *slow clap*

Looking at that Reggie interview everything feels very rushed. Like nothing has been thought out yet. Online deals? "Emmm yeah well we are thinking about that right now".

I think Nintendo have fundamentally misjudged this launch. They are marketing it as a HOME console you can take anywhere (to justify the price vs their past handhelds) rather than a portable device.

If this had been Nintendo's "Games Focused" answer to a Tablet - with fun, compelling education content to match - it would have had a much wider audience imo.

it looks lovely, but its going to struggle at that price once the nintendo faithful have all bought one (which I'm one of).

Watch a bit of Netflix on there!

Instead of your nice large new Switch screen..?

If nothing else, this sort of oversight simply serves to bash Nintendo more. At a time when they really don't need more bashing..

It has a 6.2" screen, so not much bigger than a lot of phones these days. Would you really boot it up, close or suspend whatever is open, then connect to Wifi or tether to watch Netflix on a screen not much bigger than your phone? I can imagine the Wii being quite a popular media back in the day, but that was before everyone had 4K-enabled Netflix and YouTube built into their TVs.

My favourite bit of the Reggie interview was:

Quote

...the frequency with which I get called by old high school buddies that I haven't heard from in 30 years who are asking me how to get their hands on Nintendo Switch.

Evidently ScottCR is his new scriptwriter and tomorrow Reggie will tell the New York Times how his postman saw him and his nan playing one through the window and immediately rang the doorbell and asked how to get one.

Nintendo don't even care about their own franchises like Metroid and F-Zero enough to give them to people; why do you think they'd give a monkey's toss about Netflix??
