I simply can't see them getting away with charging £60 for a game, publishers always try this. EA wants £50 for the digital PC version off the new Mass Effect and Sony wants £55 for the PS4 version on their store but I doubt many people will pay those prices, at least they shouldn't.

That's what I was afraid of. I suppose I could simply use a usb  extension cable and stick it into the dock as having to pull the entire dock and all cables out each time to remove the unit seems convoluted (as my tv unit isn't large enough to remove it  from the dock vertically).

 

The network adapter means I need to spend an extra 20 to 30 pounds for an adapter which I assume would cost less than a dollar to include in the dock. At least it may be possible to hide in the dock.  Is there a RRP for the dock as it doesn't seem to do much more than add hdmi out from what I've seen?

 

I like the region free support though as I still have a soft spot for wining eleven 6 even after all these years so not having to faff around with region switching tools is a good thing.

Zelda - I felt like crying watching the trailer, it was so, so good.

 

That's it.

 

I am hoping the two joy-cons are enough.

 

One thing my kids are pissed off about is there will be no more Mario Chase. We've done that for about 50 hours. Why on earth didn't they do more with that?

I bum red and blue stuff as I'm a sucker for pos/neg, retro 3D glasses, and stuff like that; the joycons give off a real prototype feel in that style, I feel. 

 

But as others have said, they are just a little bit too much of a distraction when the system is in handheld mode, at least from the shots. I'll have to try and weigh the options up in person.

 

This always happens with Nintendo stuff... I fall in love with the options but then go with the safe 'vanilla' choice, then regret afterwards.

Just ordered the pro controller too after hearing easy allies impressions of it. 

 

Just added up my spend so far and it is about £650

arms £50

I'm excited about the console, pre-ordered with extras and nothing could dissuade me from that. And the initial price or scarcity of games don't bother me. They're problems that always affect launch consoles and they're very subjective. I'm happy enough with one 10/10 game at launch than getting five 7/10 games.

 

But what is worrying and galling are the increasingly cynical decisions Nintendo are making from a business standpoint. Things that, to my mind, could have been easily corrected and increased goodwill and anticipation to a large degree.

 

The big issues are:

 

MK8D getting no new tracks other than battle mode (and not Block Fort!) and it being a full price release
Paid online with one monthly game that gets taken from you
No charging grip with the console
No Miiverse or Streetpass functionality
Voice chat through a separate app
No clear Virtual Console plans

 

None of those things, besides MK8D, are based on an early adopter fee but they're all designed to lower value for the consumer and increase value for Nintendo. I get they're a company and don't have any other divisions that can support loss-making products but the Nintendo audience is shrinking and these business decisions feel like cynical ones aimed at extracting as much money from that audience as possible.

See, now that looks awesome with that brand screen on there. Replace with a nice natural shot of Zelda and the controls are far too much of a distraction. I want my colours to be bursting from the screen/games, not the sides of the unit. 

 

I'm really torn. You have no idea how much I fall for red+blue stuff. :(
