Just watched the presentation again with the eza reactions. The first half was really good. Hardware looks fantastic. They should only done half an hr and preorders would be through the roof.

Nintendo have got so much right with this console, just got to hope they've got a stack of software to reveal in the next direct.

And it will. But they still wanna sell some 3DSs. There's gonna be a transition period.

I reckon that's why they've not announced a handheld-only bundle. The 3DS still has at least six good months in it, if not another Christmas shopping season.

So, to clarify.

You can't charge it when it's in table top mode away from the dock because the charger doesn't fit? (Though I imagine you could sub with your own USB C cable that is more flexible but still)  Sounds about right

The joy con grip included doesn't charge and you can only charge the joy cons when the switch is docked. Not when the switch is in handheld mode and plugged in? Nope, joycons are always charging whilst connected to the screen.

If you want to use voice chat you have to use a separate app on a totally different device and sync it to your switch. This is insane. Yes, it is insane.

If you buy a second pair of joy cons (for £70 lol) can you charge them on the switch (whilst docked) while using a different pair?

You sync the joycons by attaching and removing them once, so expect to be able to charge the spares whilst using the primary set.

No one knows how much the online will cost (with a free nes rental lol for a month)? Yup, sounds bonkers, but need more details and price.

The pro controller - essentially a regular console controller, is £70. £20 more than your Xbox or PlayStation.

See cost of games below.

You'll need to buy SD cards to make up for the laughably low amount of memory on board (not that your free nes rental will take up much space)?

PS4 / Xbox One = You'll need to buy External / internal HDD's  to make up for the laughably low amount of memory on board .

Games will cost you £60 on average, less for smaller ones. They are, on average, significantly less on other platforms (including nintendos).

Speculation, no one at Nintendo sets a price, the have "Suggested Retail Prices", blame retail for wanting to do their job and make money, same applies to the Pro Controller.

No boxed in game, including the mini game one that illustrates the systems variety best (1,2 switch)

Yep, with you on this one, that's fucking mental, 1/2 Switch should have been in the box, it would be the ideal way for people to show off the machine to others and spread brand awareness etc.

I mean, I'm getting one but fucking hell.

Have bolded my answers, too much effort to break quotes down :P

Here is a good piece by Eurogamer

Positive about the machine itself (yay) but points out all the glaring flaws

5 games at launch is just rubbish

Online sounds like a weird after thought and they want to charge for it!

Upcoming slate of games is sparse.

I'm still buying one cos it's nintendo but a niggling part of me wonders if this will be the last one I buy because it is the last one they produce.

But hey we all thought DS and Wii would tank so what do we know! That is the beauty of Nintendo :D

EDIT - oh and for those saying that Miiverse and streetpass might be in once the OS is revealed I'm afraid NOA seem to think not.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-01-13-streetpass-and-miiverse-wont-be-used-with-nintendo-switch

In some ways I can see what Nintendo are doing. they are saying everyone has a smartphone and social media so why do we need to invent our own social platforms and stuff like that why don't we just allow people to plug and share our stuff into the social networks they already use.

Problem is they spent ages telling us how great it was that they had their own safe social networking space.

When has retail ever gone under the suggested retail price for an item when there's been demand for it? I don't think the prices on Wii accessories came down to the SRP until 2010.

Wii remotes are still a fortune new. Nintendo just don't do discounting, they think it subtracts perceived value of their product (which is true, but it's annoying). I mean look at the Wii U, 2 months from official extinction and still 200-300 quid in the shops.  I paid 200 for my Mariokart pack 3 years ago, and I'm keeping it.

on brightside I am flogging my WiiU basic and it'll get me back a decent ish return. It cost me less than 200 preowned and I  might get 120 for it so not much lost :)

My head is telling me to wait until next Christmas and get the Mario/Mario Kart bundle when my mates kids also have one so we can all play online and I can enthuse the wife to get into it.

My other brain has a Switch, games and a pro-controller in the basket with my hand hovering over checkout.

"We look at every launch uniquely as to what's the right thing to do for that launch," Fils-Aime told GameSpot in an interview today. "And I've been involved in launches dating back to the Nintendo DS. Each one is a little different. For this launch, what we found is that with the range of software that's coming--not only available day one but through April and into the summer, and including the holiday timeframe with Super Mario Odyssey--that we wanted to enable the consumer to buy the software they want, to look to get to the most approachable price point we could get to. That led us to a $299 price point, and let the consumer decide what games they want to buy."

Gotta admire the marketing spiel. As if they just couldn't find which game would be best to bundle out of the five games available at launch. Of which only two are first party.

The online service charge really scares me. Nintendo's awful, inept online services are kind of charming when they're free, if I was paying they'd make me want to strangle someone. The free game rentals are a joke, especially when I'm assuming many of them will be games I bought for the VC and "upgraded" to the Wii U. But what else will be locked behind the subscription? If it's their useless versions of internet browsing and streaming services it won't make much difference, but Nintendo are absolutely stupid enough to put essential console features in there.

My main concerns right now are finding out the cost of that subscription and what the overall experience will be like without it. For the first time ever though, I'm feeling pretty pessimistic about new Nintendo hardware :(

With regards to the internal RAM it's not too bad since unlike MS & Sony, Nintendo don't expect physical media games to be completely installed to the machine.
I pretty much went all in on digital for the Wii U and I'm not convinced that was the best thing long term if my Wii U dies. Having some way of getting those purchases recognised on the Switch would be great and restore faith in buying digital but I'm not holding my breath. Physical media for Nintendo stuff for me as far as I'm concerned going forward until Nintendo commit to proper BC again.

They could at least include Wii Sports / resort HD (or call it Wii Sports 2, or Switch Sports) on the hard drive as a bonus at launch. Hardly any cost to them. Not sure they realise how important that game was for the Wii.

I'm fairly certain they've checked the sales figures.

Wii Sports will happen, probably to be announced at E3 where they'll really focus on the HD rumble, improved accuracy and so on.

The mad thing is the could include fucking 20 kick-ass games built in. Wario Ware. Wii Sports. Advance Wars. Some of the Nintendoland stuff etc. You know? They've got the greatest catalogue in the world. What's the downside to them doing this? There must be one but I'll be fucked if I can think what it is.

MAYBE the front end of the Switch is Animal Crossing.

Why giveaway a game, when the public can pay for it again, and again etc..

He's got a point though, Nintendo sit on some of the top IPs in gaming and do nothing with them. Wii sports absolutely sold the Wii by being packed-in, it was even on the news. Pensioners playing Wii Tennis and Bowling, it took over the gaming world for a good year or two..purely by being bundled in.

If I was Nintendo I would have thrown a considerable stack of cash at some highly regarded third parties to make sure both the launch lineup as the first year would have a couple of big hitters. Nintendo has deep pockets, they can easily afford it.

Isn't this what they've done? I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have Skyrim; FIFA and NBA2K coming out without Nintendo throwing some money around.
