Oh, they've sold out in less than 26 hours. Impressive.

Amazon UK sold out in just a bout 5hrs after the presentation which is impressive considering it was held at 4am.

Haven't seen many other retailers with the same sold out message though, so I assume most still have stock allocations.

Has this been confirmed anywhere? It just seems weird that they would make a second, identical but less functional, version of the same thing and put it in the box. Not impossible obviously but it just seems really stupid.

Yep it's a bit stupid, but it's true.

A basic controller grip comes with the system.

You can buy them at GAME for 10 quid

Okay, that's mighty inconvenient. Not the end of the world, but dropping £30 or whatever is a bit more than the £10 I'd have to spend to have a USB charger near me when my PS4 pad is flat.

Didn't get on with MGSV at all. Or Bloodborne. Why do I come here for gaming recommendations again? -_-

Well your point seemed to be that Spainkiller's opinion was useless on the basis of his love for MGSV, so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Maybe it's not useful to you but that doesn't mean you get to waltz in the thread and start mouthing off about how bad it is.

Amazon will sell out quick as you can pre-order and cancel it at any point without penalty. It's worth doing just to register your interest if it gets closer to launch just cancel and nothing was lost. I'd say the fact you can still pre-order on Games website tells me that people are not scrambling to get these.

I've slept on it.

had Skyrim and splatoon been launch titles, I reckon I would have jumped in. Had Zelda been Switch exclusive, no question.

come later in the year, especially after seeing what surprises they have in store at E3, I reckon this is going to become absolutely essential.

the 3DS has an embarrassingly amazing library of games, almost entirely first or second party with occasional amazement from Capcom.  I don't see any reason why the Switch won't end up the same.

its going to be the only console we'll get to play some guaranteed amazing games. I can play it on the telly or take it with me when I travel.

Xenoblade 2 FFS!

and, given that the kids love Nintendo games... I certainly see myself having to own two of the things!

Im back on the hype train. I haven't pre-ordered, I just don't have the cash right now because reasons...

but once I do. I'm ALL IN.

now, does anyone want to buy a limited edition ocarina of time 3DS with sealed game and a Sam Coupe computer?? ;)

Presumably you can just listen to audio only via headphones on the Switch (since it does have 3.5mm jack), but if you want to use voice chat functionality you have to download the app on your phone and sync it with the Switch and then plug your headset into that instead. It sounds like the actual Switch OS won't have much online gaming functionality beyond syncing to the app made by Dena which will handle things like voice chat, invites and messaging.

its fucking bonkers,

You say this, but I do all my PS4 friend/message management on my iPhone even if I'm on my PS4 itself. It's just easier.

Retailers don't yet know their stock allocations, so I don't know how it's selling out.

The problem for me isn't the cost of the hardware itself, it's the return on investment. The Wii U lasted me less than 6 months before I was bored of the endless samey feel and terrible third party support.

So far, the Switch has a fairly diverse looking lineup but no idea when half of those games will even be delivered and what will happen long term.

Third party support feels somewhat token and if and probably when the system flops, support will dry up and the situation will remain the same as the Wii U.

e.g. from ShopTo:

We have not yet received our allocation from Nintendo regarding these units, so we are not guaranteeing release date delivery until this is know. If our allocation doesn't cover all the pre-orders, we will ship on a first come first served basis by the dates the orders have been placed.

I use the PSN and Xbox apps a bunch as well. An optional smartphone app that supplements the functionality that exists on the console is a good thing. A mandatory one that replaces it, not so much.

I would presume that each game will have its own lobby functionality - like Splatoon - but it would be down to the individual developer to implement it. I guess having an app means a universal way of connecting to your friends online, irrespective of the game you're playing.

I think the App is going to be Miiverse and essentially be a social app for Nintendo games, both on the Switch and mobile. It would tie into the business plan mentioned previously - using mobile to convince people to buy a Nintendo console... That might be harder if it's a monthly subscription, but we still don't know the pricing details. Maybe subscription is only for voice chat and lobbies? Who knows, but I'm sure Nintendo will drop feed it over the coming weeks...

I'm privy to emails from other retailers saying they don't know their stock allocations, yes. Amazon may be different.

I think it's fair to say that Amazon have sold out of preorders that they allocated. Whether that allocation turns out to be exactly the amount of stock they receive is another matter. But I'm sure some amount of thought/negotiations has gone into it, it's not just an arbitrary amount.

I bought Metal Gear Solid 5 because I heard it was a great open world thing. I didn't understand it at all. Boring opening and then instead of the Fallout game I was expecting it was "go to specific place on map and do something stupid." And the rest of the map was empty. And there was an oilrig.

The oilrig had a puppy on it. The puppy was the best thing and then I threw the game in the bin along with W101.

I was under the impression that combining the handheld and home console device would end the games drought, but all releases appear to be 'home console' releases. Where's Phoenix Wright? Bravely Default? Theatrhythym? Or any other classic IP (or new IP) which would traditionally be on a Nintendo handheld?

There are four Dragon Quest games already announced!

I missed Amazon and was a little late with my GAME one and I don't trust the fuckers anyway, but jumped in on Argos early this morning when they opened up for pre-orders and was the third person to buy one.

Think I should be okay now. Still only at 38 orders if anyone else wants to guarantee a system.

Shame the launch games are so limp apart from Zelda, but Arms will be out soon and it's not long to Mario Kart. No chance could I not get a Switch for Mario Kart.

It's a home console. That's how Nintendo are pushing it.

You gotta trust they're dumping the 3DS. Had the WiiU also been home to all the 3DS games over its lifetime it would have been STELLAR.

Understand they want to shift some 3DSs this year but it doesn't help potential Switch purchasers.

Exactly, dual platform development is too much for Nintendo nowadays. This should be the ideal situation for them. I want it to be. But I'm not sure.

So, to clarify.

You can't charge it when it's in table top mode away from the dock because the charger doesn't fit? (Though I imagine you could sub with your own USB C cable that is more flexible but still)

The joy con grip included doesn't charge and you can only charge the joy cons when the switch is docked. Not when the switch is in handheld mode and plugged in?

If you want to use voice chat you have to use a separate app on a totally different device and sync it to your switch. This is insane.

If you buy a second pair of joy cons (for £70 lol) can you charge them on the switch (whilst docked) while using a different pair?

No one knows how much the online will cost (with a free nes rental lol for a month)?

The pro controller - essentially a regular console controller, is £70. £20 more than your Xbox or PlayStation.

You'll need to buy SD cards to make up for the laughably low amount of memory on board (not that your free nes rental will take up much space)?

Games will cost you £60 on average, less for smaller ones. They are, on average, significantly less on other platforms (including nintendos).

No boxed in game, including the mini game one that illustrates the systems variety best (1,2 switch)

I mean, I'm getting one but fucking hell.
