gone fishin
For those wondering how the joy con charging works, skip to 1 hour 29 mins on this The joy cons can charge while attached to the Switch when docked, the Joy Con adaptor can also charge the Joy Cons. Maybe Nintendo haven't been great at communicating the info, but there seems to be a bit of (mostly negative) misinformation in this thread.... Oh and the video has some great footage of the games ;-)
Harsin
Having to use a separate smartphone app for voice chat confirmed by Reggie with some truly tortuous reasoning. The bigger vision is that we are going to provide an overall online service, subscription-based, that not only will capture the multiplayer opportunity, but also the voice chat capability that we’re going to provide through a global app. We think that that’s just as important as access to Virtual Console content. The reason for that is, it continues to reinforce our commitment to online, and do so in a way that will enable the consumer to enjoy their Nintendo Switch and to still be able to play those connected experiences—like Splatoon, like Kart, like fill in the blank—while they’re on the go. Instead of having some sort of bulky gamer headset, you’ll be able to do it right off your smartphone, put in your earbuds that you use for your standard mobile device. We think that’s a pretty sweet solution. That’s part of the overall opportunity that we see in a subscription service.
the_debaser
Gutted that streetpass is gone. Used to make me smile seeing the little green light on my 3ds knowing that I'd walked past a fellow 3ds-er earlier in the day. Forget the 3D screen, Streetpass was the real killer feature of the 3ds.

I'm going to bed now as I'm absolutely knackered, but: whatever doubts you may have had towards the system, lay them to rest. The thing's extraordinary, from the build quality to the crispness of the screen. Not only does Zelda play and look wonderfully on the Switch's screen, but it's actually a step up from playing it on the proper telly. Also: I pretty much dominated the Ultra Street Fighter II pod, yassss. Get in. X Did you play Zelda on the TV as well? and if so did you notice any performance issues? (hope already restored though, thanks Spainy!)

therearerules
I was under the impression that combining the handheld and home console device would end the games drought, but all releases appear to be 'home console' releases. Where's Phoenix Wright? Bravely Default? Theatrhythym? Or any other classic IP (or new IP) which would traditionally be on a Nintendo handheld?

You could probably need to learn to use a bit of objectivity if you're trying to use someone's taste in games as a reason they can't be trusted. I didn't like MGSV myself, played it for a few hours and realised it just wasn't for me, But it's sat on 93% on metacritic and the majority of people on game forums seemed to like it, I can accept when a game doesn't meet my tastes it doesn't automatically mean it's rubbish. I don't like Dark Souls, but I can accept that it's a good game that does stuff with appeals that just don't resonate with me. Kind of funny when you go red eyed when someone so much as looks askance at Rainbow 6 Siege which is the definition of a game that's not for everyone.
TheSlugFormerlyKnownAsNap
I assume if everybody uses the seemingly typical Rllmuk method of securing at least three pre-orders before deciding which ones to cancel in the final week, there'll be plenty of stock on launch.
Super Craig
The only thing that's certain is that if there's plenty of stock then it's because no one wants it. And if there's not enough stock it's because Nintendo are deliberately creating a shortage.

The thread was a Nintendo-Defence-Force level opinion piece. The criticisms and concerns about the Switch are well founded. Hence pre-orders not selling out and only 35% of potential buyers on this forum securing a pre-order. Their gifs are entertaining. Plus industry figures in the press and devs post there. Don't be bitter, rllmuk. If only it had an exclusive Ghostbusters (2016) game then it would be at 35.2% and we'd have less negativity on this thread! If I'm not mistaken the Wii U and Vita broke records as fastest selling machines or some other arbitrary achievement like that. A good start is no more than a good start, momentum and continuity is what counts. And MGSV is great, but as I hate the other games in the series that might not be a recommendation. Presumably you can just listen to audio only via headphones on the Switch (since it does have 3.5mm jack), but if you want to use voice chat functionality you have to download the app on your phone and sync it with the Switch and then plug your headset into that instead. It sounds like the actual Switch OS won't have much online gaming functionality beyond syncing to the app made by Dena which will handle things like voice chat, invites and messaging. its fucking bonkers,

I've got one pre-ordered along with a set of two more joy cons for multiplayer Means no faffing around switching controllers if I run out of juice on Zelda and I'll have the ability to charge four jons at the same time so they are always topped up for any potential multiplayer action. . They could use Bluetooth, but I don't think there are any mobile OSes which let the devices act as audio streaming receivers rather than transmitters, which leaves wifi, which (going by the Vita) has a round-trip latency so long that the audio would never sync up with the visuals. Yeah, but that's not - as you were implying - the origin of people's love for the game and that overall it was pretty crap. The general mood was that the game was an all-out masterpiece up to the end of Chapter 1. You know, the first 50 or so hours. Then people realised a lot of stuff wasn't going to pay off.
