So... By default, you need to drop $30 on this or $70 on a pro-controller in order to play Nintendo Switch games with a standard controller on your TV while charging the controller.

Okay, you're talking about the specific issue where you want to play with the Switch connected to the TV, but your Joycons' batteries are flat, and the only charger that comes with it is the one built into the Switch itself. But it looks to me like the grip that comes with the system can also charge the controllers - unless it's a different one from the one Nintendo sells separately.

Ah, I've not had a handheld for ages. Really, you can keep playing a PSP/3DS just via USB?

Yeah, even the GBA SP could do it. The Vita has issues because charging the battery and playing games both require a lot of current, and if you try to do both at once with just a basic USB charger it sometimes doesn't have enough juice. I imagine if people are talking about the Switch having the same problem that's what they mean but I can't find any confirmation of any problem anywhere.

Nice to hear a bit of positivity from Spainkiller, this thread's been awfully depressing. In slightly desperate attempt to find something else positive to contribute; I guess Nintendo must believe Zelda is going to blow people away and sell like gangbusters - given they're launching with that, a milking simulator and basically nothing else.

Te charging port is on the bottom of the unit, they have said it will chrge whilst playing, so the only reason you can't charge while usin on a plane is if you are using it on the kickstand, as you physically won't be able to plug in the charger, using it with joycons attached and holding the whole system will present no issues at all to charging.

They've done it so you can't charge it whilst the kick stand is up? Surely not.

So, yeah, I just came back from an entire day of playing with the Switch in Frankfurt.

I'm going to bed now as I'm absolutely knackered, but: whatever doubts you may have had towards the system, lay them to rest. The thing's extraordinary, from the build quality to the crispness of the screen. Not only does Zelda play and look wonderfully on the Switch's screen, but it's actually a step up from playing it on the proper telly.

Also: I pretty much dominated the Ultra Street Fighter II pod, yassss. Get in.

X

ARMS info plz.

MiiVerse and Streetpass both confirmed to be dead. Boo.

What the fucking fuck? Both universally loved features dropped? Complete stupidity :(

I pre-ordered on the strength of the Mario Odyssey trailer hype this morning. But as a Wii U owner with Mario Kart 8/Splatoon already, there isn't any real point until Christmas...is there?

Dunno, maybe if you want to feel what it's like to milk a cow...

I'm someone who has owned just about every console for the last twenty years but never been in to Nintendo much (shameful I know).

I'm now older, have less time to really 'invest' in games. Being able to play a game occasionally on a big screen, take it to bed and then on a commute sounds like my dreams.

I also have two small kids who are just starting to show an interest in 'console' gaming and who I would love to play some casual, 'fun' games with.

This console has me very excited, I Can't wait.

Just saw the playing of Snipper Clippers on the treehouse and that looked pretty fantastic.

A new IP and adorable characters in a neat co-op puzzler. Perhaps questionable if its a full price release but I don't think that's clear yet.

Cheers for the impressions spainy but it doesnt fix the price of the games or peripherals. I just read it doesnt even come with those charging attachments for the joycons, theyre an extra 30 dollars.

You can charge the joycons just by putting them on your switch. Also the one that comes with the machine looks like it does have a usb socket to charge.

Be careful as they casually drop it on the floor and step on it.

I made a little thread on neogaf trying to explain to them a few things about the switch hardware etc. While various people decided to post annoying replies a mod decided to chnage the topics title to try and be a witty fucker. So I've now taken to posting replies on there with quotes from Brasseye and pictures. I invite you all to join the trolling.

Wow, why are NeoGaf so cunty over the battery?

I've just travelled from Zeddam in the Netherlands to Kepong in Kuala Lumpur; 20 hours of bus, train, airport, flight, airport, ride... My 3DS, phone, AND power bank are all still sat on 100% (phone is now at 97%). I didn't sleep and I've been caning the WiFi, as well as a new Ocarina run in 3D with the brightness on maximum. Do these people know how to travel properly or what? Are power banks a thing in the US? Aren't there mains/USB ports everywhere there? I'm actually getting a bit fucking sick of seeing USB ports now.

They should just film me for their next promo.

I don't know what you were expecting. The horrendous overuse of crap gifs on there is the least awful content on there.

Do we know the mAh of the battery yet? I carry a 10,000mAh power bank in my briefcase which is about the size of two iPhones back to back and I'm sure I'll get at least one extra charge out of that. Can't see myself needing much more than 5 hours before I next get a chance to plug it in.

People are complain about battery because a lot of people I know only charge their gadgets when the batteries die. I can't understand why so many people would do that.

Also a lot of people believe leaving stuff plugged in at full charge kills the battery life which is stupid.
