I thInk underestimate how much the cost of technology has reduced in recent years. Especially in comparison to 360

It doesn't take long to look at the mobile market and see this isn't the case. You can buy cheap tablets, sure, but they're garbage.

That rumble is certainly special. Maybe the joycons are that expensive for a reason.  Extracted from this kotaku article.

The most impressive game may sound dull, but bear with me, it is the best example of the HD rumble I played. It's guessing how any marbles are in a box.

The Joy-Con controller is the box and you can sense the marbles inside it from the way they roll around (well, the way the high fidelity rumbles). It's incredible how realistic it feels. Tilting the controller you can feel what is just like marbles roll inside and thump when they hit the edges. Shake the controller and they bounce about inside. It's bizarre and shows what developers can do with the Switch that they can't do with anything else.

Nintendo would have been better served by just keeping things simple, look, here's a handheld, you dock it when at home to play on the big screen

Who really gives a flying fuck about a (eye wateringly expensive) controller that splits in half that has some gyros and shit in it so you can play milk a fucking cow game or roll some balls about shite.

When I saw that video of the lads playing NBA with 4 tiny shitty controllers I had flashbacks to sharing half a game gear with my brother trying to play Micro Machines in 2 player on the same game gear, that was quite a novelty in 1993, a shit one too.

This thing is just bollocks. I'm sorry I can't be more positive but look at the outlay Nintendo are expecting us to put down, the first party highlight is a game coming to the previous failed console and the highlight of 3rd party support is a 25 year old arcade game and a 5 year old RPG you can play on the bus.

I'm getting serious Kinect level failure from this thing.

I know I sound really pissy but I wanted this to be Nintendo's big comeback. Learning from the mistakes made with the Wii-U, Virtual Console and online and account systems. Instead I feel they have priced themselves out of most homes and are still chasing the 'non-core' crowd, and that ship sailed a long time ago. Now they want to charge for online too, back compat has gone out the window and the prices of the essential peripherals are like a bad dream. Completely the wrong way about it, IMO.

As a Vita owner I share your hope but have the absolute unshakeable certainty that this will die on its arse. People don't deserve good handheld consoles as this thread is currently demonstrating.

Even for me £280 is too much, but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking it's some cynical ploy by Nintendo. That's just how much the console of all our dreams costs.

If they had showed Monster Hunter Evolution DX, Pokemon Next, Dark Souls Remix, Bayonetta 3 and F-Zero Switch yesterday, nobody would have talked about 280 quid. Throw in Beyond Good & Evil 2 as exclusive and people would have begged for one if they were 300.

So, yeah, I just came back from an entire day of playing with the Switch in Frankfurt.

I'm going to bed now as I'm absolutely knackered, but: whatever doubts you may have had towards the system, lay them to rest. The thing's extraordinary, from the build quality to the crispness of the screen. Not only does Zelda play and look wonderfully on the Switch's screen, but it's actually a step up from playing it on the proper telly.

Also: I pretty much dominated the Ultra Street Fighter II pod, yassss. Get in.

X

People said it looked better off the screen than on TV but that's because the PPI on the switches screen is really good. Much better than being sat near a big TV that's for sure.

I like the idea that journalists were queuing up for an hour to play Switch, getting more and more excited, and then they got there and spent their whole demo period just getting demolished. Like absolutely humiliated.

There's always E3.....get hyped.

In seriousness I think monster hunter is a cert in some form or another, as is pokemon.

And that's it in a nut shell really.  Hardware wise its undoubtedly impressive - this is a near current gen console in hand held format - its not going to be cheap - but releasing it with a non existent software line up and the majority of its upcoming calendar already available on its predecessor which is already (semi) portable within the home is lunacy.

To be honest I'd have probably kept the pre order if Mario was a launch title but there is just literally almost no reason for a WiiU owner to spend this much at launch.

Who knows how far out it is, but Bandai Namco have confirmed a Switch 'Tales' game is in development:

Bandai Namco isn't giving specifics, but they did confirm something new in a press release they sent out. There's a Tales of title in the works for the Switch.

Wiki doesn't say anything about Bluetooth. I guess wireless earphones are out?

I don't think that a full spec sheet has been set out yet, there will be a lot of details that are still to be disclosed. The console will have bluetooth almost certainly - it's been Nintendo's preference since the Wii - but obviously they haven't supported generic headsets yet and might not in the future.

Cheers for the impressions spainy but it doesnt fix the price of the games or peripherals. I just read it doesnt even come with those charging attachments for the joycons, theyre an extra 30 dollars.

Don't you own hundred quid earphones and have owned an elite pad....

Angel, think you got the wrong end of the stick - there is loads in the box as standard - the Switch (obv), the dock, two joy-con (one left, one right), a joy-con grip, and two of those little joy-con clips as well.

The standard grip comes with the system, charging grip is extra, but while attached to the screen they charge, system can be used and charged in mobile state at the same time, so unless you forget to plug the Joy-cons onto the system while you are not using it, they should be alright, especially if the battery in the Wii U pro controller is anything to go by.

This might be a really stupid question but knowing what we know now, can you REALLY play on a plane? Sure you can play for 2-3 hours but from what it sounds like you can't charge and play it at the same time? So the concept of being on a plane for 10+ hours straight playing Zelda is totally unrealistic right?

The console charges up the joycons. If you mean the "charging grip" that turns them into a controller and gives you a MicroUSB port for charging, it looks an awful lot like the grip that's included in the box to me.

Edit - Hang on, is there a different type of grip?

Surely even if it's not charging the battery, you can still play the game? Like how if you plug the Vita into a low-power USB port, it's always either charging, or playing games, but not both at once.

Maybe im wrong, I was just reading on GAF

Quote

The issue here is that by default, the only way to charge the joy-con controllers is by connecting them to the Switch while it's docked or while it's undocked and plugged into an outlet through USB. The problem here is this means that by default, you can only charge one set of joy-cons at a time, and you can't use them on a TV while they're charging like most modern controllers. So... By default, you need to drop $30 on this or $70 on a pro-controller in order to play Nintendo Switch games with a standard controller on your TV while charging the controller.

Te charging port is on the bottom of the unit, they have said it will chrge whilst playing, so the only reason you can't charge while usin on a plane is if you are using it on the kickstand, as you physically won't be able to plug in the charger, using it with joycons attached and holding the whole system will present no issues at all to charging.

Ah, I've not had a handheld for ages. Really, you can keep playing a PSP/3DS just via USB?
