Nintendo Switch

The Virtual Console lack of information is strange since it could have been some easy good news to go with the otherwise slightly disappointing line up.

When Nintendo first introduced the Virtual Console on the Wii it was a truly good idea and having new games released each week was a good way not to overwhelm people. But now, and probably with the Wii U a fully fledged and complete Virtual Console should be available at launch as the perfect antidote to the lack of new release games.

Perhaps we're still to hear information but Nintendo could have salvaged some rather good news of they had announced that at launch the Virtual Console will arrive complete with all possible titles (taking into account some will never be available because of licensing) and that they were also adding in the Gamecube library to boot. That news would have really given the Switch a shot in the arm by making Nintendos entire back catalog available and portable for the first time.

OK, I'd have gone further and hoped for a Netflix style subscription service but I do think that with the launch line up looking how it is that some good news regarding the Virtual Console might have been one way of salvaging the situation.

I thought I'd be bang on to get a Switch at launch but given that I'd only be wanting to buy Zelda and I've already got a Wii U there is literally no incentive for me to out down that much money in March. I suspect I'll wait until Mario at Christmas.

Those moaning about the launch games, have a think about the 360 launch which only really had PGR3 of any note, the PS3 launched with Resistance and Ridge Racer... my PS4 was basically a BF4 machine with a bit of Resogun for months.... and we're getting an incredible looking Zelda which provided you don't already own a WiiU makes this potentially the best launch game since Halo.

Those had good guaranteed third party support though. This has a 22 year old game with a couple of palette swaps for £50.

Love the look of it and Zelda looks beyond incredible. Pre ordered the console but can't help feeling we've been here before. The 3rd party support and games announced just don't have the KO it needs.

Needs the heavy hitters with the heavy Ip's to make this work and survive.

It probably isn't ready.

And when it is it'll have Doshin the Giant and Rayman 3. For 25 quid each.

Maybe we'll get Cel Damage and Disneys Mirror Adventure or whatever the fuck it was.

Doshin the Giant was such a cool buy back in the day when I got the Gamecube. Was £45 too.

It will definitely have backwards compatibility like the last two consoles. The missus pre-ordered this from Smyth's this morning, we haven't been excited about a Nintendo product for a while now. I had a Wii U, but lost my attention due to the lack of games on it or at least games I was interested in, but this one has a few I really want (Zelda, 1-2-Switch, I am Setsuna, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Ultra Street Fighter 2, Bomberman and a few more). But I am hoping this brings them back into the "Console War" and their paid online service I actually see as a good thing as they can then rival PS+ and Xbox Gold.

Wait, so you skipped an entire generation of truly terrific consoles of which at least two are much better in pretty much every way - and cheaper to boot - but decided to get hyped for a machine with arguably the worst launch lineup in recorded history instead? How peculiar.

I have a PC.

Each to their own. Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo and Geometry Wars was quite the line up to last me months.

I just realised I'm going to have to pay €370 for this if I get Zelda as well. That's about €20 more than I would've liked (well I was hoping I could've gotten the system with two games for €350).

Bart Smit has a bundle going for €350 which releases two weeks later and only says "with game" which is probably just going to be 1-2 Switch...

Maybe I should just wait and see... Perhaps get a PS4 with Bloodborne.

The joycons are probably quite expensive to make. They feature some form of advanced haptic feedback, probably along the lines of the ones used in the xbox one elite pads...which also cost silly money.

Having said that there is probably also a heafty chunk of profit being made on each one.

I bet there will be various offers and bundles nearer launch. Although it has mostly sold out in America.

It definitely won't have backwards compatibility as it doesn't have a disc drive.

I'm strangely feeling okay about the 3 hours of battery life. My phone connects via USB-C, and I imagine the next laptop or tablet I buy will too. In the case of the phone at least, sometimes I need to charge it at work, and I've been considering getting a battery pack for when I'm travelling. In the context of it probably supporting fast charging over a standard connector, battery life really doesn't feel like a big deal.

I just checked and I can now get a regular PS4 (500gb) with Bloodborne GOTY Edition for €305.

I'll wait to see what Digital Foundry says about Horizon's performance on the Pro though. If it's negligible once again then I should probably be a smart consumer and get a PS4 lol.

Really? Wow, I totally missed that fact. How are the physical games physical? SD card sort of thing or just cards with a code in a box?

Game cards or digital downloads I believe. Comes with 32gb internal storage which can be expanded with SD cards.

Oh god and now I've just ordered Zelda (with "free" t-shirt) from Nintendo... as well as an extra Joy-con set and 1-2 Switch... :)

That's it... nothing else... definitely NOT buying anything else!

Nothing!
