I think what they should definitely do a year or two from now when the technology is cheaper, is to make the Switch (which apparently runs on a custom version of android) smaller.  Perhaps the size of a phone.  And maybe even consider turning it into one.

So it could be called the Switch lite or Switch mobile.  (Or LiteSwitch, lel)

And it would still run the same games and whatnot, with the option of connecting it to a smaller base to be used on your television.  Better battery life, perhaps more expensive, since it's a phone and would be okay to compete in that market at a higher price.

But it would be able to play the same games on those cartridges, the screen would maintain the same resolution, just on a smaller screen.

When connected to your television, it could still act as a phone, making calls and texting as well as in-game notifications for calls and texts.

Seems like an inevitable evolution of this product, especially since Nintendo seems to want to compete in the mobile market.  With the added benefit of always having internet no matter where you went.

Yep they've worked out you can use a phone to talk to your mates. And they're going to charge you for it.

TBF the document regarding that isn't exactly clear. It states that the voice chat etc is an app but that could be an app for the switch.

Kimishima said. “And when you use a smart device application that will connect to Nintendo Switch, you will be able to invite friends to play online, set play appointments and chat with friends while enjoying online matches in compatible games, all from your smart device."

Wasn't sure if that was just for motion controlled games rather than traditional.

I dont think they showed that at all.

One of the Treehouse guys made a thing about it being his favourite way to play, slouched on the sofa, one half of the controller in each hand.

I am listening the last radio free nintendo podcast, there is a guest who is a indie developer working on a Switch project.

He says that the joycon is the most advanced controller ever. The motion control is really next gen, nothing to be compared with Wii or PS3 move. The rumble feels really special and advanced.

He also says that developing for the Switch is really easy and straight forward.

Gerstmann just confirmed it was via the phone app after today's hands on event. Crazy

I'm more hyped for Puyo Puyo Tetris. Both are obviously the same as the last how many games they've had as those two games can't really be innovated, but mashing them both together into one game IS rather interesting and makes me want to play it.

Then go and play it! It's been out almost two years.

Yeah just read an explanation of it. Madness. They could do voice chat through the machine surely.

I feel we've heard this a lot, but then why are there no games? Why are games that already exist like I am Setsuna or Minecraft not coming out for months after launch? Surely they should have enough time for a simple port?

You're all confusing me now. What I saw from the Bowser parenting video was an option on the app to turn communications on/off.

Different app, the Nintendo Network one isn't out yet and won't even be out in Europe for sometime after launch!

It states you use the mobile app to voice chat and invite friends, implying you cant play with friends without it, or anything like that.

I didnt buy a wii u but isnt the online on wii u better? I dont need an app for my 3ds online - though a simple messaging system integrated in the OS wouldve been v useful.

That does seem really stupid, then.

The bit at 2:25 in the aforementioned video is all that's needed to protect kids from inappropriate language and grooming.

Isn't the Tetris worldwide rights related to Ubisoft outside Japan? This was the reason why it's only been available on other systems in Japan and not here for the last two years.

12 Switch looks like a bit of fun - but if it's not packed in it's utter utter madness

Now I'm really worried about its prospects, it's like hearing Tom Cruise go 'Hang on alien souls that live in a volcano? That's silly!'

Are the Miis completely retired now?

I hope so.

No as there's a picture floating around of 8 player Mario kart being played and it looks like Mii's are in the lobby. That's 8 player WAN mario kart. That would be mental in some big meeting of gamers or something.

I'll take another pop at that release image. Having Streetfighter 2 Ultra on there. A 25 year old game. Blah blah palette change, 3 player, whatever. Actually putting that front and center on your statement of intent. Unbelieveable.

You've changed, man :(
