The paywall for online is the most dissapointing thing for me. I rarely play online and generally wouldn't pay for it. I do have an xbox Live subscription but these are often heavily discounted (I paid £25 for my two most recent purchases); and the free games with Gold over a year have been good enough to cover that cost as well as the occasional game of Pro Evo. However the absolute best time I've had playing online was in the couple of months after Mario Kart 8 was released, mainly playing against fellow forumites. Good times.

Has there been anything reported about the absence of Capcom and Namco? Their type of titles are what I'm really missing if Nintendo insist on this Japan centric third party love in. A proper traditional Ridge on this would be amazing. As it is, this console is shaping up to be literally a 'Nintendo games only' machine. Blah blah, it's always been like this.. like hell it has! I don't care how good Zelda is, if there'd had been a kick arse Ridge at release I would probably have ended up breaking my one game rule. Or at the very least made one of them my next purchase.

Ultra Street Fighter II?

but yes, this thing is made for Ridge Racers 3!

Phoenix Wright better makes the move to Switch (or stay on 3DS), otherwise I'm going to kick some ass and take names myself.

It's going to have online play behind a paywall, ala PSN/XBL, except it's only in the US, Canada and Mexico at launch. I think we're scheduled to to get it in the autumn. Like XBL/PSN to try and sweeten the deal they're offering 'free' games, except where those services tend to give you two or three newish releases a month, Nintendo will be giving you a single NES or SNES game. On those services the games are yours to play as long as you subscribe to the service. Nintendo will withdraw access at the end of the month and you have to buy it if you want to continue playing it. To use functions like voice chat and other basic sounding functionality you have to download an app on your smartphone/tablet, so a bit like Skype except you have to pay Nintendo for the privilege. Presumably the result of them getting an F2P phone app business to make their new online service for them. I think that's about what we know.

I have a tablet but it's basically knackered. We have a spare Amazon Kindle Fire HD but my phone is ancient, it can barely handle Facebook. Wow, wtf. What a hideous, hideous thing. I wasn't enamoured with the online functionality of the Wii U with certain taken for granted features like voice chat being omitted but I understood that as it was free and it was nice playing Splatoon without someone calling me a c*nt. In some ways, I thought it was a better option. This is ridiculously bad. Using an app on another device doesn't make sense at all. I know Microsoft Surface was a feature if you wanted to use it but it certainly wasn't essential.

For me to get this, I would need extra controllers for my kids - they don't do single player. That's £280 + £75 + whatever the cost is (probably at least £15 a month) - they can basically whistle as Zelda is out for the Wii U. I've told my kids over dinner and they were a bit :( but I'm not spending £355 on a launch console that essentially has games I already own. and that we've played.

not sure if its been posted but there is a Fire Emblem Warriors direct on the 18th at 2pm (eastern i think). Not my thing but why couldn't they put the footage in the presentation

I'm hoping for a slower paced Warriors game like Dragon Quest Heroes rather than the usual manic stuff, and maybe with an element of strategy. Here's hoping!

Last time I bought a console it was the PS3 and that wasn't even on day 1.

Gimme that wonky dog! :omg:

Wait, so you skipped an entire generation of truly terrific consoles of which at least two are much better in pretty much every way - and cheaper to boot - but decided to get hyped for a machine with arguably the worst launch lineup in recorded history instead? How peculiar.

Where's that guy who predicted that the Switch would become a phone/tablet to take on Apple earlier this week?

Wasn't sure if that was just for motion controlled games rather than traditional.

I dont think they showed that at all.

They have done so in the switch reveal trailer shown months ago. Guy on plane playing Skyrim etc.

Also in some odd news apparently when Zelda was undocked it ran smoother than when docked according to some reports. Very odd if true. Maybe the prototype version hasn't been optimised for 900p yet. Even more weird when Mario Kart 8 runs at 1080p 60fps when docked.

No way is it going to be that much, PS+ is £5.99 a month or £40/year much like MS so it has to be in that ball park - even when adding Nintendotax.

So to cut a long story short I'm not too impressed.

More expensive than I would've hoped, a bit shaky on the online details, no mention of VC titles and a pretty poor lineup of launch titles (IMO).

Biggest question the whole thing raised for me though is how long has Phil Harrison worked at Nintendo?
