£280 is fine. I was expecting £250 but £30 on top is no big issue.

Splatoon 2 had way, way, way too many weird weapons. The thing I adore about Splatoon is that you have one weapon, one sub (grenade etc) and a power-up once you've filled your meter. It was/is perfect as you learn new tricks on specific maps with different combinations - it's the best designed FPS I've ever played online. This new one (from the limited trailer) seems like it's trying to ram in every idea they've had all at once. I enjoyed the new maps appearing periodically, new weapons and the new game modes too as it meant you got to learn the game at the same time as everyone else (if you'd bought it on launch).

Zelda = a given. It looks stunning and the music made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Mario Odyssey the same. It will be a 10/10 game.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - already own it and it's fantastic but it looks very similar to the Wii U version. I'll reserve judgement on that one. Oh, it has Inklings! How nice.

Xeonoblade I could care less about.

Rime looks lovely.

Bomberman - it's great when you're just playing Bomberman multiplayer on one screen. That would be fine as a downloadable standalone multi-player game.

Tetris - I can't remember how many times I've bought and loved Tetris.

Skyrim - played it, done it. It was great but I'll not want to play it again.

Sonic I have never liked so a nope from me.

The worst thing was 1-2 Switch, what the hell was that? It looked like the worst thing about the Wii - multi-player party game with quirky mini-games for grown ups - just do Warioware, at least Warioware is funny and weird and good fun.

I'm not sure. I need to play Zelda but I have a Wii U.

I was holding off for a Switch but Red Dead Redemption 2 is out fairly soon so I might just go Zelda Wii U and get one of the other ones and play Red Dead Redemption 2 for the same price as the Nintendo Console and have access to a ton of much cheaper games.

I'm glad I didn't get up early to see that.

Yeah possibly but I can see people viewing it as more than just a handheld.

I am astounded that they haven't packed in 1, 2 Switch. It looks like shit loads of fun (and I'm not one for party games, I'm surprised I'm so keen on it), in the same way Wii Sports was.

Yeah, not including 1, 2, Switch is a misstep. They could have even included a cut-down version with the console with a 20 quid upgrade or something.

The Joy-Cons are bloody expensive, are they not? £75 for another pair without the grip. They certainly have some clever stuff in them, with the haptics and gesture identification, but maybe they should have made them a bit simpler. I'm fine with the console price, but I can't justify another £75 to play Bomberman in 4 player.

So.

Now > Summer - online free, no playing with friends.

Summer > August - online free, mobile app available to allow playing with friends & voice chat.

Winter > online paid, can only access mobile app with premium subscription.

Right?

And then you get to play 1 NES/SNES game for that whole month and DONT get to keep it? Why are they so behind, why can't they just have an actual online friend system with built in messaging (in ANY form?!)  - thats what bothers me the most. If I have my phone I may as well Skype/ANYTHING ELSE.

Mario Odyssey and Zelda are the only games that interest me. And Mario Kart. A really old Skyrim port, so odd. Also retail Bomberman? Bomberman was released a decade ago on WiiWare for 1000 points, and has had at least 1 per console - no reason to be excited about. Bomberman 2 on the DS is the pinnacle of MP Bomberman tbh. Also Tetris x PuyoPuyo is garbage, the 2 games dont mesh well (ive played on other systems), Puyo Puyo Fever is the best one , all downhill from there.

That Clippersnippers game is the suprise hit, I loved every minute of what i was seeing - looks like a lovely fun co-op game with loads of charm - like Freakyforms Deluxe x LocoRoco x that Steam game where you latch onto other dudes willys to reach the top.

You can get XBL for not much more than that if you shop around

Well yeah, so if you use the same logic you *might* be able to get this for say £10 a year if you shop around. Who knows.

They need to price it carefully, but there are other things they could work into it to add value - we might see the return of something like the premium program for example so some of the cash invested gets returned as a % of eShop credit for example.

I'm not a fan of paying to play online, I'd much rather they not gone this route, but we don't know many of the really crucial details yet.

A safe bet to predict the price of the online service would be to look at the features they have announced now, the way they have handled online stuff before, the value of having access to a single ROM for a month and put a reasonable price on that. And then multiply that by 2 or 3. And then put 20 quid on top of that.

I don't think anyone predicted an online system so fucked.

In this day and age its so insane.

In the 90's Starcraft and WormNet were way more intuitive than Nintendos whole online system in the past 12 years.

Looks like it'll be a console and Zelda purchase followed by a console and Zelda sale for me once Zelda is complete, Eerily similar to my WiiU and MK8 experience tbh. I can live with that though to play Zelda.

Everyone should just relax and watch Zelda at the moment and the video of snipperclips.

As usual its not the Software that is causing concern its the garbage online system and confusing features (or lack of) .

I think my morning glory has worn off and I'm starting to think more sensibly. I don't have time to play the games I already own, so there's not much point paying £300-odd for another Zelda, no matter how good it is.

Time to cancel the preorder and come back later when it's a bit cheaper/has a few more must-buy games/has a not-insane online service.

its utterly bizarre, I don't get the online aspect at all. Will stick with the Wii U for now.

Also for those hoping for a discounted online, Nintendo don't do discount codes, nor do they allow the likes of CD Keys et al to discount either.

What they should do to sweeten the online deal is say charge £50 a year online fee, so similar to Amazon prime/Netflix, and just shove the entire VC catalogue on there. Even if it's just a Nintendo games to avoid licensing issues. I think most people would happily pay that, and it would then fund their online infrastructure. It's such an easy sell but they're too tight to do that.

One game per month is the worst idea ever. We live in a world where Nintendo think it's good value for you to pay to play balloon fight for the whole of May. And then Ice Climber in June. And bible adventures in July. Just kill me now.

Reading the Switch thread on SA, people on there saying reports are coming in that Zelda runs better on the Wii U than the Switch, if it makes you feel better.

Thet would make sense as I suspect it was coded for the PPC based Wii U and ported quickly to the Switch.
