Nespresso
As soon as the press conference has finished I'll head to my local Bart Smit (Holland represent!) to get my pre-order in. Actually went today but they couldn't take my money. I have now become Scottcr.

The Switch will hopefully see plenty of that, MH is a shoe in. The problem is Western support. But as others have said, that was never really expected surely. I'm sure at one stage in the Nintendo hardware reveal cycle, it was a possibility in the mind of some people. It doesn't help when you can pull up quotes from such authoritative figures as the head of Nvidia telling the world ports are a piece of piss due to the architecture similarities of modern designed GPUs, but Jen-Hsun Huang is always good with the marketing spiel, he's basically Nvidia's Flavor Flav. If Japanese support was what sold consoles in the West these days, then the 3DS would be doing a whole lot better in NA/EU than it is, considering it commands a massive chunk of the available software support of the Japanese games industry.

Mate, when the Switch sells 50 million in the first year Sony and Microsoft are gonna change THEIR consoles so they can get Switch ports.

The 3DS has received pretty decent support, especially in Japan, so it's not unthinkable to say that it could bring some of that over with it. A monster hunter title, for example, would carry a fair bit of clout. Although of course the 3DS hasn't got the last 2 Fifas. And the 2 before that were "Legacy Edition", eg - We just patched the team line ups.

Dig Dug
For Europe it is standard to localise for British English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Thats 5 languages to 1.

suzzopher
You have Super Mario and Wave Race Switch? If Zelda is a month or more after launch, Switch better be region free as I'll have to import that from the States.
JPickford
Region free + delayed EU Zelda launch will mean a hell of a lot of people importing. Seems like a bad plan for Nintendo.

How hard can it be? No doubt it's text only again, should be translated in days rather than months. And the script will most likely be finished ages ago too so they could have translated most of it already.
Bojangle
Needs to go through QA once localised too.
TheSlugFormerlyKnownAsNap
That's no excuse. Nintendo is a huge multinational with deep pockets, not some understaffed indie developer on a tight budget. They can do it.
Bojangle
Wasn't excusing them, it's a batshit mental idea to stagger the launch. Was just pointing out it's a lot more work than you'd think.
gone fishin
If there ever was a positive reason for post launch patches, an additional language pack for Zelda would be one... (Although I could also say if there was ever a positive reason for Brexit, I'm sure it's an EU law having a minimum number of translations). Majora
Worldwide launch is pretty standard nowadays though. All games need to be translated into multiple languages for European release but pretty much every Western developer seems to manage it just fine. Most big games are released in US and Europe on the same day now, with a few launching Tuesday in the US and Friday in Europe. There's no excuse for it to be weeks later anymore.
Uzi
Its something that never happens anymore (decent gaps between western releases) and should not come back. Nintendo seem to be great at times at pioneering shitty old ideas that everyone else has left behind
