That Mario Kart thing is fake by the way.

Obviously it will have additional tracks though and the battle mode had been rumoured elsewhere. Given that they were such a hit on Wii U, it seems sensible to assume that other Nintendo characters and worlds will feature in this. Pikmin would be a good one to do and they could capitalize on the success of the Pokemon with a track from that. Even more likely with the 3DS game coming to the system.

I heard it's got the battle mode back now. 24 extra tracks would be nice as long as thats not including the 16 dlc tracks.

Totally not 24 new tracks. The production would have planned on releasing 8 tracks every x months (16 so far) but with the Switch they decided to hold back on the final 8 and release it at the same time as the Switch edition of the game.

2 extra cups would be a bit lame. There would definitely have to be more content than 8 new tracks and a battle mode for be to purchase it at launch.

I think 8 new tracks at launch and improvements and tweaks to ones that are already there would satisfy me. Then release some DLC ones later on in the year. Some kind of single player challenge mode would be very welcome. I wonder what they are going to do about 200cc. A nice addition, but it was just a bit too fast really and suited some tracks better than others. I think they'd be better off upping the speed of the other three classes a bit and dropping that. Make 150cc more like 175cc.

Stuck a pre-order down at Game ( boo hiss, yes I know ) on Saturday; £20 deposit to guarantee one for launch.

Depending on the actual launch line-up / reveal in a couple of weeks, I might be tempted to pop down at midnight & pick it up.

I loved 200cc, particularly on Neo Bowser City and Yoshi Circuit. Having to brake in a Mario Kart game was oddly satisfying to get used to. Plus some of the new, mushroom-free shortcuts it created were ace (drift-boost hops over Yoshi Circuit's Pirhana Plant chicane). I hope it returns with a dedicated Time Trial leaderboard.

I think it has enough tracks be honest.  Battle mode is an obvious thing they could fix fairly easily.

I'd love some sort of deep career mode for single player.   The single player side is pretty stale in MK.

Out of genuine curiosity, what would you like to see added to the single player for a deep career mode? Are you thinking something like Diddy Kong Racing or like more modern sims such as Forza?

Probably more the latter (although I haven't played it).   Something where I can work on my stats, vehicle, rank over time.  Perhaps with special tournaments that pop up in real time (weekends,  special occasions etc).   Something that goes on potentially forever.

Not keen on the Diddy Kong style adventure personally.   Or the Sonic Racing campaign.

Online events where you are racing for a team over a weekend would be quite good. You're right about the second point. Certainly in racing games where stats and vehicle upgrades basically mean getting a shitter vehicle at the beginning of a game and having to work towards being allowed to have the most fun.

As it is now, I'm sure Mario Kart Switch will allow us just to jump straight to 150cc. I'd also quite like it if all characters, vehicles and bits were available from the start and unlocks were purely cosmetic.

Basically I want something I can dip into regularly and make (or lose) progress.  A career.  It doesn't need to be super technical or anything - just something that I can keep coming back to and not a wodge of 'content' to blast through in a few hours.   I'm specifically talking single player but obviously special tournaments would be fantastic for multiplayer too.

In addition to a challenge mode with single and cooperative events that would be on the disc, I'm up for them releasing new challenges every week.  Like Mario Kart Wii's competition mode but better implemented basically.

None of this will match just racing against people in multiplayer obviously, but there are enough fun elements to Mario Kart 8 for them to play around  with to provide a good challenge mode. A new Battle Mode will open up some possibilities too.

They could lift some stuff from the Driveclub book, with all kinds of challenges during every race where you have the chance to better the scores of people on your friends list  - cornering challenge, average speed, longest drift, fastest section etc. I can't say I'd be very enthusiastic about another same old Mario Kart with recycled tracks and then only 8 of them or something sparse like that, even if it's a pack-in.

It really is awful. I'd love something like the challenge mode in Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing, or at least make the current single player mode less frustrating to play. Unlocking the barrel train in Double Dash was a nightmare!

The problem with that idea is that Mario Kart has that massive random element when racing. Nobody's going to want to attempt a drift challenge or keep a maximum speed up when Baddie Bowser can come along and knock you into some lava if he fancies it or Toad can Bullet Bill you as you're lapping him. I wouldn't anyway.

Sounds like the drift challenges in Forza Horizon 3!
