I think that's a fair assumption

Well maybe, but this is Nintendo we're talking about, and you can't buy Wii U GamePad chargers or stands separately, for example. Or buy a GamePad separately, for that matter.

Yes you can....certainly the chargers and stands anyway.

My turn! It's amusing to see how many people who were complaining about standing up and waving their arms about to play Wii games are now happily standing up and waving their arms about and wearing a funny hat to play VR games.

People can't see you if you can't see them.

OK, I was wrong about the cradle, but that does not include the charger.

I know because I tried to buy a charger separately when I wanted to take my Wii U out of the house to a party - I had stupidly fed my existing charger lead through some mini trunking in order to have the stand neatly on a shelf, but that made it a hassle to move/remove. Ended up buying one second hand on ebay.

Yeah, they don't seem to be selling the power brick officially over here - you can buy it direct in the US but not here. There are plenty of third-party options on Amazon - no need to go second hand at least.

It's heartwarming to see that the same people who defended Nintendo's stubbornness to base their consoles on wacky controllers that nobody wanted but that offered unique gameplay experiences to the death now embrace traditional controls as the Switch's strongest Unique Selling Point and most exciting feature.

It's heartwarming* that people aged above 30 are still into console WARS.

You do know that the Sega Dreamcast, arguably the best console (retro) on these boards had a fishing rod controller.

*about as heartwarming as a tramp puking up his guts over your shoes.

I considered that, but I would rather have a second-hand Nintendo charger than a new third-party one, given recent worries about the quality of non-official chargers and batteries.

Do we? The Switch chip is probably a custom Pascal chip, not Maxwell. We don't know the architecture either, or the OS, or the tooling, or much of much.

I'd say some sacrifices have to be made, but it might be simply targeting a 720p internal resolution rather than 1080. There is a big difference between 50% of a XB1, 75% of an XB1 and 90% of an XB1 in terms of sacrifices and ease of porting.

You might be right. But until there is hard numbers and running software, no one has a clue. Given FROM is in the announced developers, I don't think a DS3 port is unthinkable.

This whole thing started because of the claim that the Switch was powerful enough to easily run a Souls game, which is where I disagreed with the person who made that claim and posted my reasoning. The latest Tomb Raider and first Titanfall work fine on the X360, so yeah, if you're willing to do the hard work, you can make it fit with compromises, but I'll assume when people talk about porting, they mean in the same way that FROM took the engine they developed for Bloodborne and ported it to the X1, not a massive full on rewrite with lots of bespoke tailoring.

Pascal is just a rejigged Maxwell, just like Polaris is just an enhanced GCN, neither are really new or revolutionary changes. The major reason desktop Pascal beats Maxwell is purely because it can clock significantly higher, otherwise it's about as powerful per SM per clock.

If you set your expectations appropriately, you can't be disappointed, it's a mobile chip which you can use at home on a big TV, so I'd be realistic.

Thanks for this, it's the funniest thing I've read on here for ages.

The other thing about the waggle detractors - the wexiteers - is this idea that all Wii games are about flailing arms and jumping around as though stuff like Kororinpa and Ghost Squad just doesn't exist.

I don't really mind though but it's a bit funny that history keeps repeating itself.

A few ports during the first year to give some semblance of a 'proper' console and then after that it'll be another Nintendo delivery system with 10 to 15 amazing games.

This is all fine mind you.
