One great aspect of MK 8 1/2 as the pack-in would be a very lively on-line scene if pretty much everyone has a copy.   It makes a lot of sense for Nintendo too if they use an enhanced port (cheap to develop) and digital code or pre-load (zero cost-of-goods) for the pack-in game.   They can add it for almost nowt but charge an extra £40.

They just need to add a proper battle mode.  Although I'd love to see a meaty career mode for single player.  The current single player offering is getting a bit tired.

Mario Kart works because it's a been a big franchise on both home and handheld consoles in the past and it's multiplayer.

If they could just combine it with a track editor that uses the touch screen for track building on the go, and support a community online like Mario Maker, as well as release a steady stream of amibos that keep the driver roster fresh, I think we might have that added value that will get people excited all over again.

Zelda has been delayed due to Emily Rogers anyway.  Apparently a summer game now.

The following info comes from Emily Rogers. Emily points out that this info isn't confirmed yet and comes from multiple inside sources.

- localization on the game became a huge task, bigger than anyone expected
- as of October, localization was still not going as smoothly as planned
- localization might not be finished until the end of December
- after localization, the game will require between (at least) four-to-six months of testing
- Nintendo’s intention is to have the game as bug free as possible
- a Summer release may be more likely
- the Switch version of BoTW is running more smoothly than the Wii U version
- final version of the game is a bit harder than what the press and media played at E3
- the E3 demo’s difficulty was toned down a tiny bit because Nintendo wanted people playing to have fun exploring

Yeah perhaps.  But the Wii U sold so few it really makes sense to re-do those great games.

They still managed to shift nearly 8 million copies of Mario Kart 8. Incredible number really. A quick conversion with all the DLC and some new tracks/ gameplay could sell the switch to a lot of people.

Seeing as it's likely that there's going to be console shortages for about the first three months (judging from the NES mini), maybe this isn't such a bad things.

And the Wii U version's going to become super collectible.

Indeed.  Makes you wonder if the Wii U version is really worth it if it comes out months after the new console is launched...

Zelda launching in the summer is a fucking crime. Zelda ain't a summer game! :blah:

Indeed.  To a certain extent they may be better holding it off to be their big Christmas game.  It reflects badly on Nintendo that they have fluffed launching the console with Zelda though.

I thought the same too, question is if they'd have the balls to delay it once again for so long...

I guess it all depends what else they have lined up for the launch window. If Zelda being delayed is indeed true, it makes the New Mario for launch rumour seem more likely.

I'd rather they got it 99% right on release, people forget delays if the game is amazing.

And it would be shit if it was released with huge day one patch followed on with more patches(I don't think the Switch's on-board memory could cope with that anyway).

Maybe its old fashioned, but getting it as close to perfect as possible, while still tapping into modern ways of small updates, has worked really well for me personally with Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Xenoblade Chronicles X etc. I think people appreciate it.

I'm all for the game being as good as possible.  I'm just saying that it is poor project management for Nintendo that a crucial game originally planned for release in 2015, will arrive in 2017 and miss an important hardware launch. Particularly when the latest delays are allegedly down to localisation problems which surely are not that difficult to either overcome or factor into the project.
