Why is it a waste if there so much space anyway?

Also, what third parties?

Well in the old days people used to fill up the DVD's for games with utter junk files so that a DVD would burn fully. Even nintendo did this. But for modern games no bugger seems to want to bother to use even the simplest compression methods resulting in games balloning to crazy sizes of about 50 to even 70 gigs. There's no need for them to be that size at all. Of course one reason why devs don't bother with compression is they don't want to waste  CPU resources uncompressing stuff.

If you're going out and about with this and your games are digital and not on carts, does the tablet house the HD? I am assuming so but, you won't be able to fit much on it if it is - you surely can't take your entire game library with you. The HD would need to be way over the 32gig HD that I've heard rumoured - or have Nintendo stated how big it will be?

I think it's just a matter of buying the biggest SD card and putting digital games on that.

This isn't really true, take id Tech 5 for instance, what was the complaint about the initial implementation on the last gen consoles, which also infected the PC version? that they had to compress the fuck out the textures to make it fit onto the DVD format used by the X360 so cue whining about the blurry textures, but it came in at less than 25GB.

Fast forward to the new and improved id Tech 6, the size of games using it has ballooned now to over 50GB, but you don't get much of the whining about the textures so much anymore, I wonder why...

If you want higher fidelity artwork, increasing space usage is the cost, it's like complaining about how Blu-ray films take up so much more space than the DVD equivalent, despite the use of a much more efficient video codec.

Well they will be micro SD cards but they are cheap as well. 128 gigs will set you back about 30 to 35 quid on amazon and those prices will drop over time.

Doesn't matter what media they use, it's Nintendo and prices don't drop much on the first party stuff. Plus discs cost literally pennies to produce, doesn't stop them sticking them out at £30/£40+!

I'd hardly call a diagram showing detachable controllers, cartridges, docking stations etc an educated guess. That information came from somewhere, it wasn't just pulled out of someone's ass.

No, but what about all the rumours that *didn't* happen?

Until there are hard facts, rumours are no better than made up bollocks.

We're quite capable of looking at the source of different rumours and deciding if they're credible or not. Bar a few minor details, everything the prominent leakers (Eurogamer, Emily Rogers and Laura Kate Dale) told us about the Switch before it was announced turned out to be correct, so we can assume that the details we've been getting from them since the reveal are also accurate.

What rumours are we even arguing about here?

Of the recent rumours, the claim that the Switch is using the Tegra X2 should be treated with suspicion. It comes from a different source to most of the other rumours and from a developer who doesn't have access to the dev kit.

The other claims - about the multi-touch 720p screen, region free games, no external hdd, use of SD cards, better performance of some kind in docked mode - seem reliable. I wouldn't even really call them rumours.
