Nintendo Switch

I am not even worried about third parties anymore. Condensing all the Nintendo resources into one platform will make this platform the best one supported by them, then add the indies, this will become the indie standard platform.

It would be a shame if EA, Bethesda and other western game makers ignore the Switch, but it is their loss, really.

Thanks for correcting me. I appreciate it. So can I buy one of these Hololens gizmos in Las Vegas then?

One thing I'm worried about is that it won't include the motion control that the Wii U has. Playing Splatoon with that showed how great it is (Splatoon 2 or 1.5 will be a big reason why I'll buy this as I am evangelical about it). I've never been able to play as a sniper in any online FPS as I just couldn't control the triggers that precisely, however, I'm very adept with the Wii U control system on Splatoon and I utterly love it. It didn't work with the Need For Speed game very well, it was too sensitive and it did OK with Nintendoland (which was basically an expanded demo disc of stuff the Wii U could do well) but Splatoon without it won't work. It's so intuitive. New hairstyles on the Inklings btw.

My hopes for a launch trio would be Zelda, Mario, Splatoon. I'd be happy to wait for Mario Kart.

I'm interested to see if they have some new IPs like Splatoon with the Switch.  There's a lot I haven't played on the DS.  Animal Crossing really has to come out on this - it's perfect for it and, if they include street pass etc., I can see Animal Crossing being a massive hit on the Switch - it just needs more than collecting wallpaper and needs to be 100% a social game.

Pokemon Go has been a huge thing although I've not even seen it in the flesh - will this include GPS?

I'm fairly excited to find out.

I find it a bit odd that they're not giving pricing information this side of Christmas when it's coming so soon after. Surely there'll be at least a few people who would put off buying their kid a PS4 at Christmas and tell them they'll be getting a Switch in March?

Also that name is so awkward.

It'll include a gyroscope. I think we can say that for certain. Nintendo love gyroscope controls.

Every time I learn that there are people who not only don't think Splatoon is brilliant, but are in this unfortunate predicament because they never played it, it makes me sad. If the only thing Switch brings to the world is more Splatoon, then that's a mission worth accomplishing!

But, that's not all we're getting. We know Nintendo pretty well by now, and everyone is ready for the next 3D Mario game. Galaxy 3 would be the dream, but 3D World 2 would be more than acceptable. More Mario Kart and Smash are inevitable, but re-releases of the existing ones aren't a bad idea, especially as the console they were made for didn't sell in particularly huge amounts. Then, there's the extra stuff that we can be certain are nailed on coming our way:

It WILL have StreetPass, because enough of us have bought all the extra little mini-games on that they felt the need to release more.

It WILL have Virtual Console, because they keep on including it despite every single forum user on the internet telling anyone who will read that it's too expensive.

It WILL have an account system, because they already have one. We've been using it for more than a year now.

Ideally, it will let me connect my Gamepad and 3DS to the console. I wouldn't be surprised if I can even still use my Wiimotes on it. Wavebird might be asking a bit much, but surely the USB converter that lets us use Gamecube controllers for Smash isn't too big of a step?

If I look back at the library of Nintendo games I bought since the advent of 3DS, it's a mind-blowing selection. I bought some of them twice, too, because sometimes I'm not in the house. Playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate at home and on the move was simply perfect, and I got more than enough use out of it to justify the additional purchase. Having that option from the start and not having to find an additional Circle Pad Pro makes it even more appealing. Imagine this with Mario Kart?

Zelda: Four Swords was simply the most fun imaginable. If they can squeeze some of this into Breath of the Wild, it'll be ridiculously good. Not to mention what could be achieved with Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and ...

LOOK, I'M EXCITED, OKAY!

How about that time they released a handheld with no backlight.

The Gameboy Advance SP was released 2 years after the Gameboy Advance was launched, not exactly weeks after it...

Yeah, Nintendo might update their handhelds but they're not exactly Apple with annual hardware updates.

How to clutch-Inkstrike and jump though. :( I don't want to hear about any shitey map toggle overlays, that won't fucking work one bit.

Only cowards jump. real mine fight to the death. Fight with their fingers and thumbs spamming the trigger buttons and then smack themselves in the face.

I just played Splatoon. It is the most triumphant of games yet, the next game, you despair at your team mates who are but Lemmings. It's utterly wonderful. I got a 14-1 in a Ranked match earlier and we lost. Where else does that happen? Everyone is Japanese mind. there's barely a single English/US player in a pool of 8 besides me. I would love to think of people in Tokyo thinking about me as some sniping ghost - fear him, for he will snipe you! I have lag too so I must be shitting them up.

Bring on Splatoon 2.

If the USP, being able to take a system capable of playing home console quality games anywhere isn't enough to pull people in and make them wait, pricing is only a secondary problem beyond that. People buy hardware for the software in the end, that, more than anything else wins the game in the long run. The GC was the cheapest, but also had the smallest software library, so price didn't overcome software availability in most Western countries.

The naming is only as awkward as the last 2 Nintendo home consoles, both had their USP also included in their name.

The tweet from the Wall Street Journal saying they only plan to ship 2 Million units by the end of March 2017 is worth an eyebrow raise, maybe they have only started making them if the shipment target is that low for a global launch.

My kids would spend £1m on one. They've told me. It doesn't matter if it's £1000, they'd still buy one. That means, if I don't buy one, I am a bad parent as I buy their games consoles.

I do wonder about the 2 million sales projection. Maybe being more conservative after the Wii U? More difficult to produce? Late production?

I don't think they will try to keep the amount low to cause a false sense of demand. I'm not sure if tactics like that will work these days. Get as many out there ASAP at a sensible price.

I'm getting more excited about this now though no intention to get it at launch.

New Metroid and Excite Truck please!

The Wii U/3DS account system doesn't work like how people expect it to from experience on other consoles, though, i.e. games are still tied to the console not to the account. Yes, you can "system transfer", but only if your old console is still in your possession and not dead, and you can't system transfer from, say, a New 3DS to a 2DS, only the other way round.

Will we also finally get to see three maps in rotation? That was teased at one point, not that it isn't clearly obvious that they made space for three on their UI.

You got three maps in rotation during Splatfests - that's why the UI had space for it.

I hope they up it to three for the regular modes in Spla2oon though. Not more mind - keeping the community together in a small number of modes/maps was key to the fast matchmaking etc. It's not a game that needs or would benefit all that much from a million options in terms of modes and maps available all the time IMO.

Christ Splatoon is good. Like really, really good.

I think he was referring to the new My Nintendo stuff that's clearly going to be the backbone of their system going forwards.

And even with the old system, nothing was tied to the console anyway - it was perfectly possible to move an account from one system to another. I had to do it when my 3DS was stolen.

Is Just Dance not one of the few already confirmed third party games for the Switch? Then the Joy-Cons must have motion control built in. Nintendo probably haven't shown it off yet because of LOL-waggle guff they'd get thrown at them.

Coincidentally, did Phil Mitchell not have an issue with dogging in a T25 VW campervan, like the one in the Switch teaser video?... http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/dogging-steves-job-safe-552977
