My son saw a YouTube video of SMS today so he asked me if he could play the game... he's 9. He's no idea what a gamecube is. I goes down to the garage and pulls out my old gamecube stuff and hook it up; 4 hours later, I've played SMS, Fzero GX, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Rogue Squadron and Viewtiful Joe.

I'm getting a gamecube attitude approach to games vibe with the Switch..:

and I can't wait

Is your son still in the garage?

I think the point is there won't be multiple platforms, there'll be one platform with multiple devices. Like the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad. I think the games will absolutely be compatible across all the devices - that's the entire strategy, so anything they develop is for all their devices, rather than developing this game for the home console and that game for the portables.

If you mean they won't allow game sharing in the sense that you'll have to buy the same games again for each device - well yes, this is Nintendo, I wouldn't put it past them. But I hope that they've taken that aspect of the iOS model to heart too.

Their strategy is about ease of development. I don't think it's going to automatically mean a shared library across devices. Even something like Super Smash Bros. was packaged differently for 3DS and Wii U.

Ideally it'd work like you suggest, but yeah, Nintendo.

I really want one, but in the back of my mind there's the developer support issue. If they can at least get solid indie support it would be a nice "super-Vita", and Virtual Console with multiplayer NES and SNES games on the go would be magic.

I wonder what demo units will be like. A mass of security cables connecting all the components to the unit?

I suppose they'd have two consoles in one display unit - one permanently docked with the controllers in that pad shell, running on a TV; and one console welded to the stand with two controllers on security cables to let you try multiplayer or motion control games and see the built-in display.

If they're putting out the sum of what they put out on 3DS and Wii U on one platform, I don't really care about third party support. This thing isn't going to be more powerful than my PS4 or Xbox One anyway (and certainly not my PC).

I certainly won't be buying one in the hopes that I can play all of Ubi/EA/Activision's latest and greatest on it. I fully expect Skyrim to be the only TES game to ever make it onto the platform.

I wish, then I probably wouldn't find the gamepad so uncomfortable!

I did actually go to the effort of actually using the dimensions of the Wii U gamepad to determine the scale of the Lynx for that image, as I'm very cool; the Lynx 1 is 1.4 cm wider than the Wii U gamepad (at the Lynx's widest point), so assuming that the angle of that photograph wasn't completely off that should be about right. In fact, if anything I've been a bit kind to the Wii U!

Possibly the wrong thread for this and apologies but is there a cheap way to make the GameCube not look like total trash on a HDTV.  I got my GameCube out the other week for some Monkey Ball and quickly realised that vasoline screen is not the greatest resolution for an enjoyable experience.

I know getting a cheap second hand Wii is an option but I've got far too much plastic kicking around and the GameCube is cool looking!

I wonder what 'pledging support' means in Nintendo speak? I'd rather a simple 'will be releasing titles' statement. I've watched a number of comment pieces now who all praise Nintendo for getting so many third parties onboard. However, are we seriously to believe that all of those 'pledging support' for the Switch are actually going to release a game for it? I dunno, I'm very sceptical personally. Some of those companies can pledge all they like, doesn't mean they'll actually develop new (or convert/update) software for the console. More likely it simply means 'have been given devkits to tinker with' and that's it.

I don't think think third party support will be a problem for the switch as long as it sells well enough to have a decent user base and Nintendo gets online sorted.

It's supposed to be close to xbox one in terms of power and be easy to port to for a start.

The controllers (dogface and pro) have pretty much the same layout and number of buttons as xbox one and ps4 which will surely help.

Sceen switching is done by the console, so you're still making a game for just one screen.

I can't see the mini controller option used by many third parties though, but it's not essential as long as you can connect two big controllers for local muliplayer
