Is that offically confirmed regarding no more news till next year? Real shame if so and a daft decision imo. They must have masses to divulge to build hype and give people a reason save some pennies over Xmas. A really dumb move, especially considering the positive initial impression of the reveal.

Some Japanese man tweeted it so it must be true.

Why even buy a new Xbox? Looks just like the old ones in a pointless, idiotic jpeg comparison.

We covered this in the other thread, but Microsoft and Sony don't have reputations for innovative and varied hardware like Nintendo do, which is why people don't expect stuff that's massively different like they do from Nintendo.

But that wasn't what Shrew was windmilling at - he was basically asserting (via the use of that daft two image post) that Switch was just WiiU 2, it wasn't at all different, or new. Which it's wrong. It's fundamentally different from the Wii U.

Now if his images have been a Switch above a Shield he might have had more of a point....

As someone who would occasionally bring their WiiU out of their baggage and plug into the mains on the coach I wouldn't say it's too far removed.

My wife once said (about the GamePad) "That thing's so big you shouldn't need the console". That's exactly what the Switch is.

Next year isn't far away at all.

Revealing the whole thing might result in it getting lost amongst whatever turns out to be the must have thing his Christmas.

Nobody saves pennies over Christmas, the sales over new year put a stop to any of that. :-D

 Well, I guess you could do that.

It's a reverse Wii U in many ways - the Wii U was a console with a controller that had a screen. This is a console with a screen - that 'switch' from dumb unit to having all the computing on the controller end is the key to it.

I've also seen a lot of people saying how un-child friendly it looks - but I see children all over the place with iPads.

Yeah but he's right, the fundamental difference is that Switch is fully portable.

It's like comparing a home hi-fi system and a Walkman.

I wonder if the plan is to get the people who want a dual Home/Portable console right out of the gate (guilty), & later on release a cheaper Home-Only version without a screen that will appeal to the people who don't want a portable but still want to play the games.

No extra hardware in the actual dock (GPU, CPU, more fidelities, etc) according to a Dutch fedora wearing tech site. It's only used to output a TV signal.

What's their source? For starters it's got two USB type  looking ports on the side so it must do something more.

Nintendo themselves actually

Quote

Nintendo continued: "The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."

I keep catching myself calling it the NS, which i like as it's short & snappy like NX & also reminds me of NES.

Oh god.

No.

NO.

ANYTHING BUT THAT.

(NS is the Dutch abbreviation of Dutch Railways.)

One of the leakers, Laura Dale, has suggested that the dock will definitely improve performance, but this may just mean that it allows the handheld to run in an upclocked state, with more of the Tegra's cores active.

Presumably the Switch will display at 1080p in docked mode and 720p when portable. I doubt there will be any difference in performance beyond that.

I think we're both prone to enthusiastically championing our own points, which are often at odds with each other. I take your point that people may have trouble understanding it or feel like they're being forced to buy extra stuff, but I feel like the first thirty seconds of the trailer make it pretty clear what's going on and why it's exciting.

Oh, I'm sure people will understand what it is. It's been explained infinitely better than the WiiU was already, from a 3 minute video. Whether people will buy into it though is another story. We'll find out next March!

It's not negative mate, it's realistic.

You wouldn't know anything about that because you're in a mental fantasy world where you think Nintendo will give players free cellular data on a £200 purchase because ???, by cutting a deal with carriers (rather than just paying them for the data) by giving them a share of income from a game they don't own. Like every part of your Nintendo theories involves questioning how you think the world works and what colour the sky is.

Oh fuck off back to the Nintendo is doomed thread.

I thought the world had moved beyond the point where anyone really gave a shit what a console was capable of? I've never looked at Splatoon and thought 'good heavens this colour palette is definately missing something....'

Piss the loading times off by going back onto carts, and they're onto something. Having just got into fallout 4 on the PS4, the open door, get in a lift, wait for scenario to load/unfold is an absolute bore.
