Genuine question to all the people who are moaning about 3 hours battery life (Yeah, it isn't awesome).

Is there any data out there for something like iPads or Galaxy Tabs when playing heavy games? We all know they might get 8 hours use browsing the web and playing the odd wee sesh of Angry Birds, but what about playing graphically intense games none stop?

I know my surface 3 will get me about 6-8 hours of general use, but if I'm playing Outrun or something else that kicks out nice graphics it will kill the battery in less than 4 hours.

what a nasty piece of work. Sir Shrew, that is, mysogynistic language and displays like that are despicable.

it's just a console for gods sake.

EDIT - In fact thinking about it more it's much much worse than "just" calling him a cunt... Comparing a visual depiction of a part of a woman as a derogatory insult to someone is one of the fucking lowest thing I've seen on here. Mysogyny is just not on.

Ipad minis tend to last around 3-4 hours when being pushed a bit and those games tend to be less intensive than something like the new Zelda or Mario kart etc.

On my mini it's about 4 hours, my standard iPad Air maybe double that? Not sure as I use the mini more.

So in reality, it's not really a shit battery, it's just gamers expecting more than they should again.

Probably not. Tegra shields lasted about the same time and they had big 19 kwhour batteries in them. This is smaller but still may push about the same kind of wattage for it's chipset. Also One thing I noticed about the supposed dev kit pictured yesterday. It's powered by the same power socket thing as the wii and wiiu used. It's not using a USB type or wiiu dock type connector. That could hint at the dock needing the same kind of power as a wiiu used (about 36 watts) which would mean that the dock really could be used for supplemental power i.e more memory or some form of overclocking for the tablet.

Does anyone have any idea what these two things (circled) are?

On this picture you get a hint of what is on the bottom of the console. There two bits/sockets then a bigger one and then another two bits/socket. On the let there so sort of grey bar. Bit in the center is likely the charging socket like on the wiiU gamepad.

Just to add, they showcased Skyrim and some Wii U titles in the trailer - suggests this won't be PS4XBO level, making straight ports a more complex proposition.

It's the remastered skyrim that's coming out soon on PS4 and Xbone and assumedly using a fair amount of their resources. Those also aren't the Wii U versions of Splatoon and MK8 (though they're close enough that they're probably just upgraded ports).

I don't know how the Vita does it.

It cost as much as a home console on release, which now I think about it might be the reason this is being sold as a hybrid not a new handheld.

We don't live in a Broker vacuum. Other people want different things. I'm just pointing out how it might not be the right console for some people.

I think we're both prone to enthusiastically championing our own points, which are often at odds with each other. I take your point that people may have trouble understanding it or feel like they're being forced to buy extra stuff, but I feel like the first thirty seconds of the trailer make it pretty clear what's going on and why it's exciting.

I am confused (here we go again)

What does the dock do? Does it come with the dock or do I have to buy it separately? Can I play on the big tv without it?

Its like the awful Wiiu reveal which I thought was an add on to the wii after the initial reveal

It charges it, supplies it power, and outputs the picture onto the TV.

It comes with it.

No.

It's one package, and the dock comes with it. At least as far as we know it does, it's totally possible that they could sell it separately but highly doubtful.

The reason for it is so that you can play the console on your TV. It probably allows the processors to run at higher clock speeds to improve graphics or framerate, and no doubt provides some kind of cooling solution.

And no you don't need the dock to play the console in handheld form.
