Poor battery life at launch, means more money down the line with the release of a high capacity?

Which is a massive failure really. You can't be pushing it as this big portable consoel revolution then tell people you have to spend a dollop of cash on an extra battery. Will put normal people off.

Assuming it's even still true at this stage. I doubt Nintendo were optimising battery life on dev kits.

There's rumours that the Switch will be running Nvidia Pascal GPU architecture. I am in no way any kind of expert on tech specs but I've read a few articles on this and one thing that's repeated is that it extends battery life on gaming PCs.

This looks pretty much exactly what I expected the Wii U to be. The portable screen actually makes sense when it's actually portable rather than a big dumb pad that has to be on all the time.

This could be very popular, particularly in Japan where portable is king right now.

Sold.

Anyone hoping for a low price on this will be disappointed. Even if it is cheap to produce, the fucked pound will make it really expensive if there is any link to US prices.

Or any link to any currency in the world, basically.

It is strange that they seem keen to promote it as a home console first and foremost rather than a handheld, given how much better their portables have sold in recent years.

Someone on GAF joked that, while they're reassuring us that it's a powerful home console they'll be making the exact opposite pitch to the Japanese market, but you do have to wonder what will it happen if it fails to capture the audience they've developed with their previous handhelds.

Some are suggesting that they should release a TV-only version without the tablet, but I wonder if we won't eventually see a portable-only version with a smaller, more conventional design in line with the DS, especially if it doesn't sell well in Japan initially.

This is all going to depend on its battery life. If its comparable to current systems it will suck up a lot of juice and will they stick in a crap low end battery like the Wii U Gamepad. It's also pretty slim so there's not a lot of room for expanding into say a 3rd party one. Which will effect the portability.

Well the tegra chip they're using is made for portable devices.  And the joy-con controllers that attach to the tablet seem to have their own batteries within them.  So battery life may actually be decent.

Hopefully the tegra chip they're using is from the new Pascal line.  Maxwell is fine, but if they're using pascal it'll have even more power efficiency meaning even longer battery life.  So you'd think that would be the one they go for.
