Interesting. If it's a 7 inch tablet, it's likely quite wide with the controllers on. Probably more like holding an Atari Lynx.

Not that it's crucial, but how does the GPU shape up? Presumably better then usual mobile fair if they're bringing Skyrim over.

If the previous specs are true then think of it as a half way house between the wiiu and the xboxone. Maybe more towards Xbox one when in dock mode. It's likely better on the CPU end of things as the PS4 and xbox CPU's are a bit shit.

Does anyone think Zelda looked like it was lower framerate in portable mode?

Yes. If that's real captured footage then I'm guessing the chip gets underclocked during handheld use to minimise heat and battery use.

I'm going to assume that this early on it's just a poorly edited marketing video.

Hmm, yeah. Hopefully that's just an artefact of the promo video. I mean, the gameplay on the tablet was probably just a mockup (playing a video file from SD card or something) so maybe it'll be OK in real life?

Well, there's what seems to be a fan outlet at the top, which implies it might have a power boost when docked. Or a fan when portable.

Or that the dock pretty much covers the whole thing so even if it's passively cooled when out of the dock, it needs some air moving around it when it's in it....

The tens of millions of people that want to play Skyrim on Nintendo hardware will be very happy.

I'll be able to play Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, and The Legend of Zelda quite happily on my Wii U.

What a complete load of utter fucking shite.

Low framerate in mobile mode would be a big disappointment for me.   I don't mind lower resolution or other forms of image quality (shadows etc.) But I'd never opt for low framerate to play away from TV.

Nintendo are pretty solid on the framerate front, I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if that was the direction they took...

If this thing is £300 + you might as well buy a PSVR, something that is genuinely bringing something new to the table. I don't think detachable controllers and a tablet screen with games from 2012 are really blowing many peoples socks off in comparison.

That's like saying if a car is too expensive you might as well buy a boat. PSVR isn't an alternative to a Switch. They're two totally different things.

does anyone know if there's extra power coming from the base unit (extra chipset etc) or just a fan so the cpu on the console can be overclocked?

This and other similar "does anyone know..." questions. The answer is no, we don't know.

All we have now is:

What it looks like

How it works (as in, fits together)

3rd parties

NVIDIA have worked on it

Zelda is coming out on it

Correct me if I'm wrong, but nothing else has been confirmed, has it? No specs, price, release date, games.
