Nintendo devkits always look really different to the final thing anyway, so it could be real.

 

Used to have a Wii devkit on my desk where I used to work and it was like a black box from a plane.

If it's a console/handheld hybrid it was always going to have a touchscreen. It doesn't necessarily represent how the controls will be in handheld form. There's one of those Wii input things like the NES Classic has.

What if the screen detaches, can be used as a handheld, but can also clip into a HMD for VR?

 

(Obviously it won't, but it would be pretty awesome.)
