Is there some special patent in the rumble effects that Nintendo is not willing to share with third parties? I'd kind of like the Hori grip pad pro ones, but the lack of feedback is a big fat 'no' - so used to physical feedback on these things, it would be annoying not to have something.

It’s licensed technology from Immersion Corporation. Sony and Nintendo signed up, Microsoft didn’t. You can imagine that small peripheral cos can’t afford it. Immersion famously sued everything that moved about rumble in the early 2000s, which is why the Sixaxis didn’t have it. Sony were the last to settle.

The Split Pad Pro doesn't have rumble (or wireless or gyro) because it doesn't have batteries. Other 3rd party pads do have rumble, I don't think official "HD Rumble" but works just fine. My 8bitdo ultimate pad has very nice rumble.

Well, the Switch has certainly reinvigorated my fondness for RPGs from Japan, that's for sure. It's amazing just how good they feel on the console.

I had FFX come in the post yesterday, and I'm chuffed at how lovely it is on the thing.

Ah, the collection is building rapidly...whether or not I ever finish any of these things is besides the point ;)

The Binbok Joycons have rumble and gyro that the Hori split pad doesn't and also a battery so they can be used as an external pad  (they otherwise look and feel identical to the Hori's) but the rumble is nothing like the official rumble HD on the real ones so I think that is under patent.

Oof my online membership just expired and it’s quite steep to renew with the expansion.

Does it ever go on sale at all?

I got a slot in a family group from eBay for just over a tenner (obvs from a reputable seller)

They never go on sale. There are workarounds to make it cheaper and as has been pointed out people sell slots in the family memberships.

Tried to order those as thought they would look great in my home recording studio. Love how 80’s they look! And it’s Mario, Zelda and Metroid, 3 of my fav game series. Key word there though is - tried. The Nintendo site is absolutely fucking abysmal. Didn’t work on the first iPad I tried. Didn’t work on the 2nd iPad I tried. Got it to work on my laptop and found I was 60 points short. Pissed a good hour away linking my old 3DS to my Nintendo account to get 100 points.

Points sorted, I went to order and...........that part of the site didn’t work. 😂 Tried the Desktop. Great, finally got my details sorted, order in basket, hit to pay and........ it didn’t work, just took me back to the store with an error message and deducted 600pts. I now have no order, no posters and no points. 🤣 Well done Nintendo! 🤡

Also, realised my Switch Online runs out today and you can’t use the Game Voucher things without it. So my Zelda TotK preorder will be cancelled and I need to splash the cash and re-sign up to Switch Online, which i don’t want, in order to be able to use the fucking Game Vouchers I’ve already bought for £80. Maximum scam! Proper Crimewatch level shit. Why do I now get the feeling the Game Vouchers are likely to mysteriously vanish into thin air and I’ll be £80 down? 🤨

I would have thought the purchase of the game vouchers had a requirement for you to be subbed but once you had them they were yours, subscription or not?

That’s exactly what I thought. That would make sense though and actually be fair!

You have to be subscribed to Switch Online to buy them AND subscribed to use/redeem them. I bought 2 for £80-90 to preorder/buy Zelda TotK and Pikmin 4. As my subscription has now run out, I can no longer use them and my preorders will be cancelled........unless I re-subscribe to Switch Online and I’m still subscribed when the games are released. You also only have 1 year from purchase to use the Game Vouchers otherwise they expire.

Basically, I now have to spend more money and re-subscribe to something I don’t want and don’t use, otherwise I lose the vouchers I bought for £80-£90. It’s sketchy as all fuck!

I had a go on Wario Ware and Metroid Fusion, amazing how good these GBA games look on a big telly, really surprising. Is there any way to remove the instructions at the bottom and side for things like suspend controls? I find them really distracting.

Wow! Nintendo Customer Support is fucking terrible. Never experienced customer service this bad. Used the MyNintendo website form to contact them and received an email saying “sorry, we can’t help you. We’re Nintendo Support and you need to contact MyNintendo Support. Use this link”. Judean People’s Front? Fuck off! We’re the People’s Front of Judea!!! Hit the link and it takes me back to the MyNintendo form I originally contacted them on. 🤣 So I tried a Live Chat instead.......and it doesn’t work. And that’s ya lot. 🤠

They do look fantastic. I went back to my GBA micro to play something and the switch is just so much more comfortable along with the bigger, prettier screen. Been having a blast.

I think you can turn off the instructions at the main game select screen, where you have the filter options etc?

Also I really recommend the Mario 3 e-reader levels. They’re like proto Nintendo-designed Mario Maker levels before they all turned to auto-runner YouTube bait. Just an amazing amount of challenge and creativity hidden away in there.

Ah okay, I don’t use it too much so I’m not sure where that is but I’ll work it out, cheers!

I think I have several of the originals of these, they were available from Shell garages in the 90’s, thibk you collected tokens or something to get them, out of the paper… not really sure, but know I’ve got them 😂

Update to my dealings with Nintendo Customer Support........

Emailed them a couple more times and finally ended up dealing with someone that actually does their job properly! They asked for some screenshots of my Platinum Points Log via email and then forwarded them to someone that could help me out. Took less than 5mins. Points have have now been reinstated and ordered the posters with no problems this time. Just shows that sometimes it’s the person you’re dealing with that makes all the difference.
