Thankfully I still have my DS copy.

I really regret selling my DS Dragon Quest games though.

I really regret my DS copy of Chrono Trigger was stolen. 🥲

Yeah I said something similar in the Metroid Prime Remastered thread, that game looks like it’s running on substantially more powerful hardware; a combination of great artistic design and being specifically tailored to the Switch.

I agree about BOTW as well, sure you can get it running via emulation in 4K with more frames than Ronnie O'Sullivan on a winning streak, but the heart of the game has always been there on Switch. It looks beautiful and no other game feels so vast or inviting with the freedom to explore and just let time pass you by. I’ve just ordered a canvas of the artwork to go in our games room.

You'd have thought that getting the damn FF Pixel remasters out on the Switch should have been an absolute priority, but clearly not and we have to wait fuck knows how long before they arrive.

They’re out “in spring” and I’ve got a £200+ preorder down for them 🤡

There’s a Steam port, but apparently it is complete trash. Fingers crossed we don’t get that.

The Steam version you can buy nowadays is supposedly not the terrible port that was once on there. So I read, fuck I dunno. I only own it on there for good money, it’s not like I’ve ever played it or even ever been arsed to fire it up.

Jeepers. That's commitment right there. I will attempt to buy them at a slightly cheaper price...

That said, I just frittered away the best part of £100 buying all the Xenoblade games for the Switch, knowing full well I'll probably end up never getting through them all. Although...3 seems absolutely fantastic already. I am however exceedingly glad that there's a pause button, because jesus, some of those cut-scenes go on a while!

Also, there's something about games being on a cartridge (or the memory card Switch equivalent) that means I actively want to buy all my Switch games physical. God knows why, as I've been fully digital for years now, but I guess the fact that the vast majority of Nintendo games never seem to have much in the way of deep discounts means it's actually worth it to me?

I dunno.

I do like them though, although I do lament there not being a little manual in that dinky box...seems a bit of a shame really!

I know a lot of people are eagerly awaiting a new, more powerful Nintendo console and I understand why.

But I'm playing BOTW on my 12 year old Panasonic plasma and you know what? That shit looks really good to me, some of the sunsets are just gorgeous and the artsyle just shines through.

Metroid Prime remastered looks and runs fantastic. It's amazing what the hardware in the Switch can accomplish when a skilled developer targets the machine.

Meanwhile you have games that maybe are technically superior, higher resolution, more effects, better textures etc that are not nearly as pleasant to the eye. Recent examples would be Forspoken, Gotham Knights or even that Saints Row reboot.

Not sure if there is a point to this post, except Botw looks amazing even now.

BOTW looks stunning, especially upscaled and with the TV “faking” 60fps. I’ve been playing Mario Galaxy recently too and that looks even better. SM3DW looks fantastic too. Basically, the first party Nintendo stuff running on Switch, looks as good as, if not better than most PS5/Series games.

Hey forum, what's the deal with getting official switch controllers these days?  Rare as rocking horse shit, it seems!

I've been promising my eldest son who is autistic new joy cons for MONTHS and still no luck. I fancy a pro controller myself and no luck on that front either!

So I guess I'm asking: where can I get official controllers at the mo, if that's even possible?

Otherwise, what would people recommend in terms of 3rd party joycons & pro controller?

It's true, been playing BotW and Odyssey again recently and OMGHEARTEYES.

Games don't really need to look better.

There's still a part of me that wonders what Nintendo's wizards could do with a PS5 or XSX though!

The limitations of Nintendo’s hardware is probably what allows them to come up with such creative gameplay and art styles that other developers are lacking these days.

Instead of spending all their development time and resources into achieving high-res textures/graphics, they can instead create simple but creative art styles and free up more staff to create unique gameplay elements that make their games so creative and fun.

I’ve read that the 8bitdo controllers are decent and I’ve been tempted to buy one in the past but at a little over £40 I would still go for a used official pro controller from ebay for a little less

Actually don’t buy a pro controller from eBay, just looked and it’s awash with fakes

They barely managed to convert to workload of HD in the WiiU era, a console late. I think it's less about low specs allowing them to be creative and more forcing it.

There’s always the 8bitdo pro controller @JoeK linked to, although bear in mind it won’t wake the system from sleep.

I've got a pair of official Joycons I can part with, happy to swap out the sticks so they are minty fresh

I knew this would happen. Despite receiving the Xenoblade games, I seem to be locked into a forever war with Tetris on the GB emulator.

It's still so much fun - hadn't played it for the best part of twenty years I think and I'm now hopelessly addicted again.
