are things like this

still risky? I vaguely remember 3rd party docks killing Switches early on. But that price is quite a lot nicer, so if it's sorted ("Built-in original intelligent chip with short circuit protection, over voltage protection, recovery protection and overheat protection" lol) then I might go that way for our 'upstairs telly' and just plug in a usb-c phone/tablet charger or something.

Granddaughter is getting a Switch for Christmas and I was considering picking up Super Mario 3D all stars so she could experience Super Mario Galaxy. How well does this game play on the Switch compared to the Wii especially control wise.

It’s excellent. The waggle is mapped to a button & it works just as well, if not better. You can also use the aim function of the controllers for the rare levels you need to catch loads of things. They removed it from the eShop so you’ll need to find a disc version and they can be a bit pricey.

It’s still the stone cold 10/10 it always has been. Also consider the sensational Super Mario 3D World which has multiplayer Mario goodness!

Completely endorse these views. Both great pickups, Odyssey too

You probably know this, but just to say: bafflingly the game is no longer available to buy (it was a limited release), so you would have to get it secondhand from somewhere.

It's a crazy move by Nintendo. I bought it on the eshop, but it would sell a ton ig the released it again I'm sure

You can pick up physical copies easily enough but they’ve held their value, totally worth it of course. The Mario 64 emulation is the best yet.

I have noticed Amazon sell a UK version and also a EU version and both are pricey.

We’ve got Fire Emblem Engage, Pikmin 4 and Tears of The Kingdom that we know about coming soon. Rumour has it that Nintendo’s second half of 2023 is looking quite bare, so if these come out at all next year it probably won’t be until September onwards. This would also make sense marketing wise in the lead up to Prime 4, which let’s face it, will probably be a Switch 2 launch title now.

how can you have rumours that nintendo's unannounced slate of games is looking bare, they didn't even know what the botw 2 name was lmao

Well that’s it, it’s just rumours based on whatever they come up with, or not. I’ve seen that from a few sources though, saying TOTK will be the last big Switch game. Obviously depends what they mean by big - but let’s be honest apart from Prime 4 what else do we know that they have in development or might be coming soon?

Xenoblade 3 just came out, so nothing from Monolith but they’ll support 3 with DLC.

Mario Kart 8 booster course fully booked for the rest of the year so no MK9

Bayonetta 3 came out at last, probably the last big title that was in limbo, apart from Prime 4.

Splatoon 3 is out and continues being supported.

So we’ve got:

Fire Emblem Engage

Pikmin 4

Zelda

Octopath II

maybe Advance Wars

Splatoon 3 content

Xenoblade DLC

Kirby remake

no doubt more Switch Sports, maybe as part of Online

Probably some I’ve forgotten about. I could see maybe a new New Super Mario Bros, and a Metroid Dread follow up.

It’s Nintendo so anything is possible I suppose.

you'd expect either a 2D or 3D Mario game to come out since both those teams have been quiet

check out this famiboards thread to see how many teams Nintendo has that haven't got a publicly announced project https://famiboards.com/threads/nintendo-first-party-software-development-st-nintendo-party-superstars.114/

i'd expect there to be one or two major announcements for 2023 that we haven't heard about, either delayed thanks to covid/rearranging release schedule or has been in the works for a while. a couple of years back there was a rumour of a non-retro studios donkey kong game, which would make sense seeing as we only got a port of tropical freeze.

i'd also expect a couple of smaller titles, third party collabs and the usual digital only titles that fill out the year. wouldn't be surprised to see another unannounced remaster from the gamecube/wii era either.

strong potential for a new NSO retro service, probably game boy.

i'm not too worried because nintendo tends to have shorter marketing cycles these days, 3-4 months seems to be the sweet spot for anything other than their biggest franchises. it's not like there's a third party drought either.

Oh yeah it’s all hyperbole really, I’m still catching up with all the games from this year. Fire Emblem Engage is only weeks away too and that’s my next game I think, unless I’m allowed to ‘borrow’ my daughters copy of Dragon Quest Treasures

Tbh once Zelda arrives no other game will get a look in for me.

Same, though I am a little worried about how well the game will perform. I don't doubt that at this point Nintendo have learned a lot about how to push the Switch further than they did when they were making its launch game, but I still worry that the ambition will be too much for the hardware.

Even though Nintendo are seemingly the only ones capable of making the Switch perform semi decently I'm still expecting 25-30 frames. I can deal with that fluctuation so long as it doesn't go beyond that. If it runs miserably I'm going to be gutted.

Hopefully with 6 years and with the full might of their R&D behind it, plus Monolith, I think it will run just fine. Might be the odd hiccup but hoping it’s a steady 30fps and they iron out those frame dips from some of the forest areas.

Not long to go until the January direct so I guess we’ll find out then.

Get a load of this filthy casual who doesn't look know that Nintendo do their directs in February. Ya big mook.

I don’t remember any performance issues with the original BOTW, so I’m not worried.

Goes to show how the high-profile botch job that is Pokémon Scarlet has dented people’s perception of the Switch though, despite stuff like BOTW and the Xenoblade games pulling off more advanced gameworlds without much bother.

It’s dangerous to go alone, take this Monolith.

This sounds like heresy but I've only ever played a bit of Zelda Ocarina of Time and I didn't get on with it at all.

I don't  know why - I just didn't gel. SInce then I've let each new game pass me by. Given my antipathy towards the world/gameplay back then - is it worth me giving the series on switch a punt - and if it is where should I start?

hard to say when you say you don't know why you didn't gel, BOTW is a big departure from 3D Zeldas before it and Link's Awakening is basically traditional Zelda with all the fat trimmed off.
