All my other devices do this fine (PS5, PS3, Apple TV). Power them on and the TV switches to the correct input. Just not the bloody Switch.

Yes, me! It worked briefly, for a few days, last week, then stopped working again. I suspect it’s got something to do with some combination of which HDMI port it’s connected to and/or which other devices are connected to the TV on other ports. At the point at which it worked, the PS5 and Series X were fully off; then, after they were turned on and put into standby, it stopped working again.

Cheers, not just me then. It's not a huge deal, I'll try powering other stuff down and see what happens.

Apologies for asking a question I'm sure has been asked before. I've been searching for the answer but keep seeing conflicting information.

 

My daughter is getting a Switch lite for her birthday. Currently we have one Switch and we all have accounts on it. I have set up a family account where she is added. She has her own Nintendo ID as she plays fortnite etc.

 

So what is the best way to set up her Switch to allow her to play the games we have downloaded already? If she sets up her account on the new switch will it just work?

Have you bought all the games on your account? Here's how it works, this is how we have it set up at home.

 

The main Switch has my account and my 2 sons accounts as well. We have the online Nintendo Switch Online Family and Expansion pack. That Switch is set as my primary console. All the games are bought on my account. We can all access all the games on that Switch as it is set as the primary.

 

I also have a Switch Lite. On this one, only my account can play the games. We put my kids ones on there, no games show up as it's not set as my primary Switch. Also, the Lite has to connect to the internet when you start a game to check if it can be played. If anyone if playing the same game on the primary switch, it won't start.

 

So your daughter won't be able to play any of the games you have downloaded and paid for on her new Switch. Free to play stuff like Fortnite should be OK, she just needs to download that on her account on the new Switch.

 

It's a pretty rubbish system, the Family thing is only sharing internet access, not actual game purchases.

It’s the same on Xbox and PS and makes perfect sense. The person who bought that game owns it, the others do not. 
 

EDIT: Think of it this way: It’d be the same if you owned one cart. You can play together and lend it, but you can’t play it in more than one console at a time.

I thought you could on xbox? But thats just going by what a friend told me.

 

I suppose it is fair, but I would have hoped there could be something better for families, but it would just get abused to death so I do get it. My son is about to head to Uni, plays my Switch all the time but doesn't want one of his own as he would have to buy all the games. We could set his as the primary console, but then my other son couldn't play on mine. I guess I am asking for the moon on a stick.

On Xbox my son can play games on his Xbox(not my primary) that I bought with my account as long as my account is signed in. He can play them using hiss account as long as I am signed in.

 

on switch if I am on a secondary switch We have to play using my account , my son can’t play my games as there is no way to register my account as “signed in”

So it's exactly as useful as Valve's family sharing system. Of course, the only reason Sony and Microsoft's is different is because of a fundamental 'weakness' in how their accounts work, otherwise I'd think they'd be no better.

Now that’s a top tip of which I was unaware. And this doesn’t sign you out of the other Xbox, kick either of you if he starts playing the same game or anything like that?

I don’t think you can be signed in on two xboxes unless one (primary ) is offline.

 

that’s way best way round is my sons Xbox is my primary so his account can play my games without me signed in. My Xbox is not my primary but if I’m signed in I can play and so can he on his including online against each other.

 

slightly more flexibility than switch

My setup sounds the same as yours, So just to clarify, on the 2nd Switch I need to log in as myself as I am the one who purchases all of the digital content on the primary switch? Can my daughter still have her own profile to play games herself?

Nope. Unless you make that the primary Switch. You can only share games on the primary switch. She can have her pwn profile, but will only have access to games she has bought, or free to play games she downloads. Making her switch the primary one means anyone else who currently plays games on your main switch will lose access.

Think thats what my mate meant as he rarely uses his Xbox so it works for his biys

The way my brother and I have it set up is his Xbox is my secondary one. Any game I download he can play on his xbox while signed into his own account. Likewise my Live and Gamepass is shared with xbox and we can both play at the same time. Though with Game Pass he has to install games and doesn't have access to Cloud play like I do
