Nintendo Switch

The problem is that we've had rumour after rumour, which sparks discussion, and then that repeats itself over and over. Not helped by Zelda being delayed, again, it doesn't give the impression that Nintendo know exactly what they're doing.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being disappointed about the no-show, but going on about confidence in Nintendo and things like that is just daft.

Well the fact that Wii U is as dead as a dodo doesn't help either. I don't think they've been on form this gen. Some would argue a lot longer than that.

It just feels to me like NX should have launched this year but wasn't ready. The paucity of Wii U games certainly suggests that.

They're certainly a company in disarray right now, and a strong E3 showing featuring NX might have restored some faith.

Didn't I hear somewhere that they would be revealing the console towards the end of this year, with a release in March, or was that just another rumour?

VR is not the new motion control as it's dead on arrival.

VR is the new 3D.

Oh I think you'll find you're highly wrong in a few years. Just because something isn't immediately the next big thing doesn't mean it has failed. The new announcements from Google and Oculus show how the tech is progressing and how it will be becoming more and more accessible to the mass market. The headsets of 3-5 years time will be much more affordable and practical and the amount of media (and uses) for VR will have multiplied significantly. Facebook, Apple, Google etc all are spending big on it, it is just that we are still very much in the early adopter phase. VR isn't just for games and its uses will continue to expand. I just find this kind of short sighted thinking baffling. I don't expect the PSVR for example to sell loads but I don't think that means VR is done for.

On the other hand 3D TV's were just a stop gap for continuing to get people to spend more on going to the cinema and then to sell people new TV's.

Anyway, NX, day one, as Nintendo console launches rule :)

Apple have said they think AR will be bigger than VR. After VR failed to launch and Pokemon Go made all the money, I think most people in the industry think that.

I think if something fails to launch, assuming it'll still be pushed in five years seems a bit foolish, we all remember how well the improved Kinect 2.0 was received.

I get the feeling Microsoft and Nintendo will be pretty happy they didn't invest in it.

I just don't think it'll ever be mainstream, or not for a very long time, because people in general just won't want to enclose themselves in a headset. I can imagine it's seen as too nerdy for the masses.

It might be anecdotal, and maybe not even related, but most people I've spoken to who got a 3D TV soon gave up on it after the novelty wore off because they couldn't be bothered with the glasses.

I just think it's too much of a faff and I can't see how they'll get around some of the inherent problems.
