This guy who plays that hilarious youtube character has had a bit of insider information to share. Nothing mayor though

He confirms the hybrid concept.

He has talked to two people who have used it both impressed.

He points to rumours of a smash game (I guess a port) and a pokemon title

He seems to suggest that the portable games will be "a version of the console game". That sounds a bit disappointing if true. Id assumed the only difference would be it would render at a lower res for the handheld screen, not that the actual content would be restricted.

Imagine if they released a first party Nintendo entry level version - and licensed the technology to third parties, allowing for more powerful iterations be sold alongside the first party original.

Two things:

It will never happen.

I only posted this because it came to me in a dream, genuinely.

I'll get my coat.

I'm still a bit meh about the PS4 and the Xbox One. I bought a Wii U instead when I could've bought either of the big two consoles as my kids also had a choice in what I bought and they both wanted a Wii U after playing Rayman in HMV (when they had a display Wii U with that running on it) and watching Youtube vids of 3D World. As Breath of The Wild seems finished (from the amount of videos they've released, surely this'll be announced properly soon. I do want a new console as I've run out of games on the Wii u and I don't want to buy into a PS4 or an Xbox One. This should be my next console but, I'm concerned about the 3rd party content.

My ideal 3rd party stuff would be the following:

A game like Pure - the quad bike racer/SSX game that was amazingly good fun. Excite Truck 2 perhaps would be perfect. I know they released that weird robot racing game as a kind of sequel to that on the Wii but Excite Truck was really great and I loved Pure as it wasn't a racing game in the Forza mould, it was easy to play but challenging to master.

A Dead Rising style, sandbox game. Not chop 'til you drop or whatever that abomination was on the Wii.

A Crackdown or a Just Cause 2 - open world games have never seemed to be available on Nintendo consoles.

Assasins Creed Pirate Game - without the stealthy assassin parts that ruined a really brilliant pirate game. Wy aren't there more pirate games?

Some kind of space exploration game - No Mans Sky/Elite Dangerous - but don't include cartoon animals as the space explorers.

Banjo Kazooie Nuts N' Bolts - build your own stuff style game.

A football game that isn't Fifa or PES (is Pro Evo still going?)

GTA VI - never, never going to happen, I know :(

I am a bit worried that Nintendo are so focussed on Amiibo stuff and Pokemon Go and Street Pass things - I'm genuinely not interested in any of that rubbish.

They do need the 3rd Party support this time.

I wish they'd tell us what this NX actually is soon though.

It's kind of weird you saying you don't want a current gen console when one cover's pretty much all of those games you're immediately interested in.

A Dead Rising style, sandbox game. Not chop 'til you drop or whatever that abomination was on the Wii.

Dead Rising 4 out in December

A Crackdown or a Just Cause 2 - open world games have never seemed to be available on Nintendo consoles.

Crackdown 3 next year

Assasins Creed Pirate Game - without the stealthy assassin parts that ruined a really brilliant pirate game. Wy aren't there more pirate games?

Sea of Thieves next year

Some kind of space exploration game - No Mans Sky/Elite Dangerous - but don't include cartoon animals as the space explorers.

Astroneer (later this year) and Everspace in game preview now plus Elite Dangerous and Kerbal Space Program

Banjo Kazooie Nuts N' Bolts - build your own stuff style game.

Pioneers from ex Press Play devs next year or play Nuts N' Bolts via backwards compatibility

A football game that isn't Fifa or PES (is Pro Evo still going?)

Yeah, I'm not sure how Boogies thing would work if true - how many devs have console and handheld versions of their franchises to switch between or are designed to scale in that way? It sounds like something for Nintendo first party and not third parties again.

Maybe they're expecting them to use mobile games, but if so why would I take this handheld out when I could play all of those on the phone I always have on me? It's not a great feature unless devs actually use it.

Someone high up at a game retailer leaked what they saw at a presentation on the NX subreddit

Not much actually about the consoles or games, just pricepoints/bundles/marketing info that you'd expect a retailer to get.

Quote

Marketing

  • "Interact with your game on the go." phrase seen on a poster.
  • Strong co-branding effort with a Mario launch title on many posters.
  • Console is currently set to launch with least 4 titles on deck.
  • Stores should be receiving demo units around February.
  • Base price point seems to be sitting at $299.99

Bundle

  • The NX is currently set to have a bundle option.
  • The contents of this bundle is currently unknown.
  • Bundle price is currently sitting at $399.99

Packaging

  • The packaging for the NX will be slightly larger than the Wii U's packaging.
  • The packaging is relatively clean and simple and is similar to the Wii U in terms of package design.
  • The color scheme for the packaging is white and blue (compared to the Wii U's blue and black).
  • The packaging still says "NX" however there is still no indication if this is a placeholder or the final name.
  • The areas of the packaging that would usually depict the hardware were blurred and redacted by Nintendo in attempt to keep it hidden.

Features and Specs

  • Games will be on cartridges

So overall very banal but plausible.
