Surprised at you saying that given your fondness for Apple.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at here, but I'll try and answer.

What's this fondness for Apple you think I have? I mean, I don't mind them. In fact, I think they're pretty good. As a graphic designer  I've used Apples since the days of the LCII and these days I have a MacBook Pro, which is perfect for my work with its portability and power. I do have problems with them though. There are plenty of niggles with OSX that piss me off pretty regularly, and I've gone back to having an iPhone 5S, because I much prefer its size over their move to bigger models, but iOS 10 is built around force touch, so it feels more cumbersome to use now. I get by though, but I'm not exactly an Apple fanboy.

If what you were getting at then is Apple's way of announcing products then launching them shortly after. Well, it's completely different really, isn't it? Apple are a truly mass market company these days and everybody knows when their keynote speeches are going to be. Plus they pretty much always convey the features of a new product well enough that most people understand it.

Nintendo, on the other hand, don't have that kind of market penetration and, as of yet, nobody knows when they're even going to formally announce the NX and show us what it's all about. So, I think after their mess up with the WiiU, it'd be in everyone's best interest if they got it out there and started telling people what this new console's killer features are.

Above all though, I'm just excited to see what they're doing and want to know more about it.

Isn't this supposed to be out in March? They better get a move on and start building some hype.

Aye, saw a tweet earlier by an analyst saying that with 191 days till end of March 2017, the NX is set to have the shortest reveal to release cycle of any console.

If the March launch rumours are true obvs

It wasn't meant as a dig or anything like that.

If Nintendo have something that people want and they position it properly, I don't think an Apple-style launch would be a bad thing. Provided developers have had enough time to prepare for it anyway.

Apart from the Apple Pippin, which went from announcement to release to dead in under a month.

I didn't take it as a dig, I just wondered what made you think I had a fondness for Apple. It confused me a bit!

I suppose you're right though. As long as Nintendo convey what the NX is about clearly and don't leave people confused, they can definitely announce it closer to launch. They just need to make sure the mainstream press pick up on it and get it out to as wide an audience as possible.

I just worry a bit, that not only do I imagine that not many of your average consumers even know of its existence yet, but if they leave it too long, then they could potentially lose quite a lot of people to the PS4 Pro or the Xbox One S.

Plus, like I said earlier, I just selfishly want to know what it is!

They told the entire world publicly they were working on something called the NX nearly 1.5 years ago, any developer that has been allowed and wants to develop for it has been doing so for a fairly long time, the only people moaning about lack of information at this point are the invested potential buyers of it mainly.

I'd think the overlap between the traditional console appeal of a Sony or Microsoft console isn't the target for Nintendo, neither of which are being sold as family or kid or even massmarket casual friendly to any great extent, which is the known target market for the NX. As Ubisoft claim it's going to recapture the lapsed Blue Ocean crowd, Sony and Microsoft don't really pose much of a threat to this or vice versa imo.

You think this is the better forum for news and rumours? Rllmuk is a ghost town by comparison.

You mean, "you can actually read and follow conversations here without everybody posting at 88 mph." (And really, that's supposed to be our shtick.)

I think you'll find that there are a huge amount of developers, both large and small, who know absolutely sod all about the NX, and not for the want of trying either. Nintendo are incredibly tight regarding who they deem suitable for development partnerships, especially for launches.

As I recall the only machine to buck the trend was the WiiU, whereby indies suddenly became their best buds. And then only after it became clear that it's sales had tanked.

As I said "any developer that has been allowed and wants to develop for it has been doing so for a fairly long time". Any large developer of any perceived commercial worth to Nintendo aren't going to have trouble jumping the queue if they wanted to work on it (the list of large developers mentioned so far are the usual suspects), indies are always going to be last in line as there are a Bajillion of them, and only the select few of that group could hope to get the limited number of dev kits available before launch, it's the same for any console launch.

Nintendo will not be restocking Wii U at retailers from next week

Quote

Nintendo is now taking final orders on Wii U consoles. Those [retailers] that haven't ordered by the end of next week (Friday September 30) will not be able to order the Wii U again from Nintendo. Is this Nintendo's last roll of the dice with the Wii U so they can plan to give retailers details about the new hardware next month? Is something exciting due to be announced in October?

Either NX is closer than expected or they're basically going to discontinue Wii U with no replacement for five months, right before Xmas run-up.

To be honest, yesterday I cancelled a PS4 Slim I ordered the day before.

To get "hyped" I subscribed and I was listening that "PS I love you" podcast, and in the last episode I noticed  they were not really happy with the games they are getting this fall (as well as last one), they were surprisingly pesimist.

Then they were reading the list of most sold games, and there it was... GTA V in forth position, an updated game from last generation!!! That is a clear sign of something not going right.

And on top of that I really could not find a must-buy car game, which is something I identify with playstation.

Of course there are good games for PS4, but I dont think it is anywhere close to the level of the 360 or PS2.

So maybe it is not that bad that Nintendo is having a tough time with the WIi U, hopefully it will push them to take the right decisions.
