Thanks

It made me realise I should have put 3rd party controller.  It will be for the occasional gaming with the kids so cannot justify the high price point for the pro.

AliExpress knock-off Pro Controller. About 17 quid and is perfect except for the absence of NFC and HD rumble.

Didn't know where to put this, so I'll post it here. Kotaku have done an article about the history of Monolith Soft and it's a great read.

Even as a Nintendo fan, they're absolutely my favourite Nintendo studio. I can't think of any other studio than 'get' overworlds as well as they do.

Although bear in mind the games are not on the cart, so what you're buying is a digital copy you need a cart in to play.

It's £24 on the eShop and in this case, since the cart will be useless if Ninty turn off the servers anyway, is the better buy.

The first game is on the card, so I wouldn't say its useless.

After being so impressed by Streets of Rage 4, I finally got around to picking up Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. This despite the fact that I never really got on with the SMS version, which kind of felt ugly and empty after the joy of Wonder Boy In Monster Land.

Anyway, it’s fantastic! Put it in to check the cart worked and was so enchanted by the whole thing I ended up playing as far as getting the Lion Man form.

For such an old game, the mechanics have held up wonderfully, and the facelift it’s been given is really superb. The ability to switch between the modern and retro modes really drives this home - the extra variation and detail in the backgrounds of the modern version makes mentally mapping the world much easier, and is frequently take-your-breath beautiful to boot.

Best part is that it’s apparently only about 5hrs long, which just sounds perfect to my time-poor middle-aged self. Oh, and the cartridge has the Sega Master System pattern, so plus one for that.

Is Mario Party worth it for family play?  I have a 6 year old and 3 year old. Not expecting the 3 year old to do much but the 6 year old is living mario kart, animal crossing and Unravelled two with me.

Just aware it's been out a while and not sure if there is something else I should consider.

yeah it’s pretty good for the kids, my six year old has had fun with it. There is a reasonably strong random element to who gets to win, so that can lead to strife for some. The co-op rafting game is nice to play together too.

@Alexlotl have you played Monster Boy yet? You need to if not!

I’m scared of it! I tried to play the e-shop demo on my first Switch, and it whitescreened after the intro sequence and needed a forced power off. After that, the Switch wouldn’t play any games at all, and had to be replaced by Nintendo.

I would like to pick it up at some point, but I’m fairly religiously a cart-only guy, and it seems to only go for silly money.

I don't know what Dudley is on about, but you don't need the cart to play the digital games if you buy Borderlands Collection.

You're effectively buying Borderlands 1 on a car, and the digital versions of the other two games.  So you only need the cart to play the first game.

It appears I've confused it with Bioshock where part of each of the 3 games is on the cart. Even so I think I'd pay the £3.

Firmware 11 now live. Some useful stuff:

- Users can use a USB cable to connect Nintendo Switch to their computers to copy the screenshots and videos saved under Album.

- Users can wirelessly connect their smart devices to Nintendo Switch to transfer the screenshots and videos saved within their Album.

- When using software with the same Nintendo Account linked to multiple systems, save data backed up from one console will automatically be downloaded to your other system(s).

I hope that follows the Xbox way of doing things, where you take a screenshot, it’s uploaded to the cloud then you get a notification on your phone through the app, from which you can then share it onward.

That works pretty well.
