Have you ever played Control before? If not I can certainly recommend it as it’s excellent but please play it on anything other than this as it relies on fast responses. If you try the demo again (you get two goes) skip all the cutscenes and intros etc. with the B button and you’ll get to some actual shooting bits if you’re quick enough - but honestly whilst it might feel ok, the difference playing it locally is night & day IMO.

I have to say, I do think it's highly dependent on the quality of your internet connection, which with something like this is going to be as much, if not more so, dependent on the ping time as it is the overall speed. I have a bit of an unusual internet setup where I live - it's a big apartment complex in northwest London and broadband is included in our rent, which means we share a fibre connection with all the other flats. So sometimes it's outrageously good internet and sometimes outrageously bad.

Anyway, I had a play of this last night, fast tracking my way to the shooty bits as quick as I could and thought it was excellent. Solid controls, absolutely zero perceptible lag, it felt like I was playing it natively on the console. I was genuinely tempted to double dip on it (previously played through it on PC).

This morning I gave it another try and it was atrocious. Very laggy in places and sometimes things like the camera control would get stuck, making the room spin. It was pretty much unplayable.

Basically, I think your mileage is going to vary with something like this, so definitely make use of the trial if you're tempted. I can say some of the later battles rely on very quick responses and I'd be concerned about my connection going to shit in some of those.

Unless you absolutely have no other option than to play it on Switch there are far, far better and cheaper options out there IMO.

My internet connection is Virgin 100mb - I don’t know how good it is really, but there was no noticeable jumps or stutters, I’m just very sensitive to lag, so like you say your mileage may vary but I wouldn’t recommend it.

£34.99, it’s the Ultimate Edition which includes all DLC mind.

That's pretty decent for what is a very comparable experience to other consoles - and as Alex said, actually better than base PS4 in certain regards.

I've played it inside out and upside down (literally, in the case of some levels) on PS4 so I found the reduced stick travel on Switch to be noticeable enough that I don't think I'll bother, but for the asking price it's not too shabby.

Ah... when I did a price comparison with PS4 I didn't appreciate this... I'm quite intrigued now.  Especially since, provided the connection holds up, it seems to be potentially better than the PS4 version?

To be fair I hadn't checked how much it was on the Playstation Store, where it's £32.99.  All very comparable, but the PS4 version nets you the PS5 version as well, and that'll surely be the ultimate edition of the Ultimate Edition.

Chances of me having a PS5 any time soon are nill I'm afraid...

anyways, I goes through to the big telly to try it again to see how it looked and it says there are 'no more trial sessions available' - I've only played it twice for 5 minutes a pop!!!!

The Hyrule Warriors demo took me 2 hours to see through to the end and I can keep playing it and grinding some leves while I wait on the full release, likewise Pikmin 3!

What's determining how good it is under perfect conditions, is simply what version they're running on what hardware in the backend.

It'll presumably be a PC version with the menus customised to hide this fact running on whatever they decided to budget.

Does your Hyrule Warriors save carry on from the demo to the full release?

Now I've got the Switch (with Mario Odyssey) I thought I'd ask this lovely forum for some more recommendations. Zelda BOTW is a given - I'll be buying that for myself immediately but aside from these 2 games, which others are recommended?

Top 5s?

At the risk of saying games you've played elsewhere:

  • Baba is You
  • What Remains of Edith Finch
  • Return of the Obra Dinn
  • West of Loathing
  • Dark Souls

Are any of the Resident Evil games on switch worth a go? I've got RE4 obviously but never played any of the others that are on the eshop...

This is a very broad answered question depending on who you ask. My short answer is probably not. The remake of 1 and Zero are clunky as fuck, and 5 and 6 are bad/cheeseball fun depending who you ask.

Leaving out BotW and MO, and picking only from those I've played:

  1. Splatoon 2
  2. Dragon Quest XI
  3. Mario vs Rabbids
  4. Hyrule Warriors
  5. Astral Chain

Christ, what a collection of 7 titles that is...all playable on the lav :D

Honorable mentions (as long as you've not already played them elsewhere):

  • Mario Kart
  • Alien Isolation
  • Pikmin 3
  • Dark Souls
  • Switcher

They're barely Resident Evil games. @PyramidFace is right, 2 is fine. I guess it depends how much it is, they're usually overpriced on Switch even on sale.

Just checked, for six quid and change I'd say probably? I think it's telling that no-one can go "FUCK YEAH BUY REVELATIONS 2!"
