I seriously think that if she could take the Animal Crossing save with her, my wife would have bought her own Switch Lite, so Nintendo are doing themselves out of a sale here.

I bought a Switch Lite last year which has now become my wifes and I had to buy a new one shortly after the release of animal crossing.

Because the one thing Nintendo are desperate for right now are sales.

I'm really looking forward to Bioshock and Borderlands at the end of the month. Anybody else planning on getting them?

Bioshock for me, only played through them all once so I’m looking forward to re-visiting them.

Borderlands I’m leaving for now, after completing both 2 and 3 so far this year I feel like I’ve got burnout at the moment.

Very interested in Bioshock, great games, even if Infinite isn’t quite as good at 1 & 2.

They are great games although personally thought the second was the worst of the three as I was just a retread of the first one with a few tweaks. The third was a completely new setting and everything was different. Only ever completed the first and third ones. Had a brief go on the second one and got bored quickly.

If you have never played the Bioshock series at all you are in for a treat with them though. Normally not a huge fan of FPS games but Bioshock is something of an adventure blended with shooter set in a captivating world to explore and an intriguing storyline that makes you want to push on and explore. Rapture actually feels as much a part of Bioshock as the rest of the story.

Personally not really interesting in going through them again as they are largely story based games. It will be interesting to see how well the Switch versions run... saying that the original ran on 360 in 2007 so Switch should be more than capable of doing justice or even enhancing the visuals.

I think I just like the setting of the first two but didn’t care much for the third, it lacked the same atmosphere.

Did you play through the third one? Had a completely different feel to it and was a completely different game. In fact I'd say if you didn't relate it at all to the Bioshock series it actually stands alone as its own game really well. Liked the location in the clouds and had a great ending :)

Anyhow if you've never played these great titles... Might even have a quick blast on BS3 as I have it on my Steam account and not played it since I finished it years ago....

EDIT: Wow didn't release BS3 was 5 years old... which means my GPU card in my PC is 5 years old.... eeek that has done well! :D Have to look at upgrading at some point!

The third is definitely the low point of the series. I don't think I've ever had such a large disconnect between review scores and my own personal opinion. Personally, I'd rate two the best, the one, then Infinite is about a mile below both. 2 has the best moment to moment gameplay and mixes up the tonics well. The first game had the best story, but I always return to the second game.

Guess its all subjective anyway... But getting all three in a collection is great! Guessing this is coming in at £49?

EDIT: OK ~£35 so not too bad at all! :)

Yeah don’t get me wrong I enjoyed it for what it was but I kind of associated Bioshock with Rapture - that bleak underwater environment just embodies the fear and pressure they were trying to put the player under.

Id love another one set there.

Just in case there's anyone who doesn't know, bear in mind the physical version is much worse than digital this time.  You still have to download 2/3rds of the games (none of them are complete on the cart) but you need the cart in to play it.

Insanity. So what are you actually buying when you buy the physical thing? Essentially a code to download the games? Waste of plastic and resources... :( The collection may as well be sold as a digital only code.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/03/buying_bioshock_borderlands_or_xcom_physically_expect_huge_download_requirements

I get it because the cost of making a cart to hold everything would be huge. However when you buy a cart there is an expectation that should the online service disappear you still can play. Only Bioshock is complete on a 16GB cart. Could this be taken as false advertising on the physical box? Guess it's only the same as PC games with Steam really. Still makes me wonder why they have a physical release at all? For people who like to collect bits of plastic? Guessing once the games are downloaded they cannot be resold anyway or passed on.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/09/feature_exploring_the_switch_tax_and_why_nintendo_was_right_to_use_game_cards

Reading through this guessing it's a fine balance making a game profitable on the Switch due to the physical media costs involved.

In the end guess at least publishers are willing to release more ambitious titles on the Switch and we have a choice whether to buy it or not. On par I think Nintendo did the right thing going with carts as a physical medium for the Switch.

I really wanted to like 3, and it had some wonderful parts to it, but the wave shooting was only surpassed in awfulness by the 'both-sides'ism that completely marred the story.

Pretty much.  It's almost worse having a small cart than no cart.

We’re going to get my daughter one of these. I’d like to be able to use it on the tv, so assume it’s the original switch, albeit the revised one with improved battery. Is there any indication of which is (s)witch?

I read that there won’t be a Pro version out this year, so I don’t think it’s worth waiting for that or the price of this to possibly drop in light of that. Is there anything else I should know when shopping around please?

The newer version has a box which is more red:

the older one shows a hand in the image on the box:

The Lite version is cheaper, but is purely handheld, no way of docking it and displaying it via a TV.

HTH

Edit, can read about the new different versions of the Switch (not the Lite) here

Also, this article about which version, normal or Lite is best for you.

Thanks. I’m thinking two of Minecraft, Mario Oddessy, AC or Mario Party. My daughter is 9 but also have a 14 year old who will play it too. I’d like Zelda and Mariokart, but this isn’t about me (yet). Any recommendations that I might not be aware of?

Edit: ah in classic style, I’ve picked the worst time to buy one of these. £280 from Argos for the console seems to be my best option.

That’s pretty normal tbh and if they have one in stock I wouldn’t hesitate if I were you as they’ve been difficult to get hold of recently - and by that I mean move to purchase right now before they go.

Games wise Animal Crossing is essential and then either Odyssey or Mario Kart, preferably both.
