I wonder if they released it specifically as they can't fix them at the moment.

Maybe so, would make sense. Send it to me if you want it taken apart and cleaned out?

Quick question my sister wants to sell her Switch. I know there's a subscription service for Nintendo to upload saves, but can she subscribe for 1 month and upload her saves and then when she gets another in the future can she download her saves again?. Or is the saves tied to how long the subscription is?.

You have 180 days after your subscription ends to resubscribe. If not then your data is lost. And some games like Pokemon you can't upload.

After my Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, will my online save data and my Nintendo Entertainment System™ - Nintendo Switch Online data be erased?

If a Nintendo Switch Online membership expires, users won’t be able to access their Save Data Cloud backups. However, Nintendo will allow users who resubscribe within 180 days to access their previous Save Data Cloud backups.

Classic games in the NES – Nintendo Switch Online collection and the save data for those games will not be removed unless the user chooses to do so manually. These items are stored locally on the Nintendo Switch system but cannot be accessed without an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.

wtf - I bought a new switch lite, can’t I transfer my save from the other machine to this one? (Pokemon Shield)

You can move the save to a new local system but you can't upload the file to the cloud using the Nintendo Online system. The following link tells you how to transfer it.

It's basically to stop people trading Pokemon and then just restoring their old save to cheat.

Which is of course pathetic.

You make the game worse for everyone so people you don't care about can't do something that doesn't affect you.

I'd be well up for a slim, attachable second screen that lie above - foldable so it brought back the protective/space saving quality of the clamshell design - as well as bringing the potential for loads of DS and 3DS ports or remasters.

And while I'm dreaming, if it came as a new3DS style 3D screen, I'd probably die of mild happiness.

And both games that ever use it will be fab.

PSA: If you use separate joycons, you can set SL and SR as usable buttons!

This is actually quite handy, thanks!

Also thanks to this update I can now play NES games undocked, the default button config for them was shite. Hurray!

Additional Gris feedback whether you want it or not....it really is a remarkable gaming experience. You can play through without that much thought and just enjoy the visual and audio landscape which makes it a terrific bit of escapism. Graphically, aside from its overall fantastic look, what amazes me is amount of detail that they could easily have left out and yet they’ve taken the time to include. Little animations here and there you can just sit and watch - just bloody buy it if you haven’t - it’s beautiful.

Gris is a magnificent game. Looks and sounds beautiful, and is the only game I've ever played to make me cry.

When I realised what it was about, it was like a gut punch.

Spoiler

Having lost my mum a couple of years ago, when I realised the game is a representation of the process of grief after Gris lost hers, it hit me hard. Obviously brought back a lot of hard memories for me, and when it got to the end, I was blubbing.

I did find it therapeutic in a way, to recognise the metaphors and how they applied to me. I don't want to oversell it or anything, I'm not saying this game made me come to terms with my loss, or anything like that, but it did help a bit.

I'm thankful to the makers of the game for that.

It's the first (and so far only) videogame I've ever had a genuine emotional connection with.

With Switch online, given that my wife and I both share the same switch (but have different user accounts) and only want to play Animal Crossing online, visiting our friends’ islands, will one online account cover us or do we need a family pack?

My Switch Lite purchased from Currys Digital Ebay store 2 weeks ago has a dodgy analogue stick (now completely unusable) so have started the eBay return process and emailed them about getting a replacement. I purchased all my games on digital though: Animal Crossing via a CD Keys code from UK store, another couple from the UK store (and a year's online sub) then Zelda BOTW from the South African Nintendo Eshop.

1) How do I wipe a Switch Lite before returning it?

2) Will all my titles be available to download once I link the replacement Switch to my Nintendo Account? How do I back up saves?

Thanks

Save Backups

System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud

You can check there which save data is/isn't backed up to the server, and if it's not for a certain game then you can do it manually. Looking now, I have about ten of 400+ games which have not automatically backed up, for reasons unknown.

Some games unfortunately don't support cloud backup, including Pokemon Sword/Shield, Splatoon 2, Dark Souls Remastered and Daemon X Machina. Animal Crossing doesn't appear anywhere, not even in the 'Not Supported' list so I suspect you'll be out of luck with that one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Games

No issue with this. Just sign into your replacement Switch with your account and you can download them all again via All Software > Redownload Software.

Wipe

No issue with this. System Settings > System (very bottom) > Formatting Options > Restore Factory Settings.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Holy shit, no way to back up Animal Crossing save data?! That is ridiculous.
