No F-Zero, Star Fox, Pikmin, Doshin or Mario Odyssey 2, what a fucking let down.

COME ON NINTENDO TELL US WHAT GAMES ARE COMING OUT THIS YEAR.

No not those games, the other games.

I'm fairly sure the last half of the year is going to be amazing, just like the last half of 2019 was, with some heavy hitters coming out mere weeks apart. It's more the first half of this year I've been curious about for a while. What big first party Nintendo stuff do we have to look forward to from December to June? And the answer, finally, seems to be: a game delayed from 2019, a remake of a DS Pokémon spinoff, and a remaster of a Wii game. I think that's it. Which explains why they were being so quiet about it. They just had nothing to announce.

We've just got Bioshock, Borderlands, and X-Com playable in your hands - and coming out in a couple of months. And a Panzer Dragood remake out immediately. And a new Bravely Default with a demo right now, Ignore if you want, but it's hard to describe that as disappointing shirley?

I'm sure they have a plan to announce their future big internal stuff around (what was) E3. I'm sure they never planned to announce any of their big internal stuff literally days after releasing Animal Crossing - regardless of all the COVID-19 stuff.

Just some niche title called...oh I forget now......Mammal Parallel. I dunno, it's not going to sell anything anyway. They should bury it with other big game announcements right after they launch it.

And I say that as somebody that doesn't like it. Hasn't bought it. But can appreciate it's FUCKING MASSIVE.

But this is why the yearly "omfg it's 3 months into the year and we don't know what Nintendo are releasing this holiday, they have no games?!" posts surprise me every time. Are people really so stuck for stuff to play right now that they simply need to know what Nintendo are releasing in 6 months time? Christ I've barely got time to play the stuff I already have, never mind the stuff announced today that interested me, stuff I know is coming next month PLUS all the stuff they'll no doubt announce and release in Directs between now and October.

To be fair, the remake of the Wii game is a remake of the best JRPG ever.

And it has an awesome Collector's Edition.

Oh totally. I'm excited to play it too. And Animal Crossing is an absolutely gigantic release for the first half of the year. It just feels like they've had to bugger about with their releases for some unforeseen reason, even before Covid 19 hit. Being able to download Xenoblade in full, two months before it's actually released, seems to indicate this too. Why is May 29 a better release date than late March? Or April? Or early May? I'm not saying what they're doing is wrong - obviously they know what they're doing and are basing their decisions on data we're not privy to - I'm just really curious to know how they make these decisions.

I mean, I mentioned Animal Crossing in the very next sentence:

And yeah, Animal Crossing is fucking huge. (And wonderful, by the way.) Which is why they wanted it out at the end of 2019, I expect. What I was pondering was: had Animal Crossing been released on time, what were the massive first party games planned for the first half of 2019?

Spoiler

There weren't any. Because they're all coming out after June.

We don't know, because Animal Crossing was delayed and Nintendo tend not let us know what would have happened had what they announced not actually happened.

I mean it's likely they had a plan, but once Animal Crossing was delayed they moved stuff out of the way to give it some room. There is literally no point whatsoever in them releasing or promoting other stuff around now - Animal Crossing is HUGE, and even trying to shout about something else right now would be a bit mental for both the consumer and for them.

I'm sure the fact that E3 was due in June, and they've announced a load of stuff until the end of May is totally unrelated.

Yeah don’t really see why Animal Crossing being a delayed game doesn’t count as a release?

They probably moved stuff round due to that delay and they also restarted Metroid Prime 4 so they shifted stuff for that too I imagine. Does it matter really?

It doesn't matter at all. But it's interesting to me and I like discussing it. Shrug.

Sorry bad turn of phrase. I really mean: “what are you getting at?” Do you think there was a big unknown game that got cancelled? The Star Fox Grand Prix that was rumoured maybe?

If I had to speculate I'd say maybe Xenoblade got pushed back. The full game is downloadable on the eshop now waiting for an unlock in two months. And maybe they're holding off on either a new Pikmin or a port of 3, which you'd think would have been perfect for Spring. Other than that, no, I think based on their release schedule for the last few years, Nintendo has decided it makes more financial sense to stack the second half of the year with lots of huge releases while leaving the first half fairly quiet. Animal Crossing being the gigantic exception.

There’s a hardware drought so entirely possible that’s why things are pushed back, if they have been - or Nintendo are just holding back announcements until they’re sure they can supply it again.

I dunno I feel like they’re always quite well spaced out. (But maybe that’s just me personally as this time last year FF7 was released, so I would have been set) but Nintendo wise, wasn’t Yoshi also this time last year?

What’s a decent price for a launch model switch with Let’s go Pikachu, a pokeball plus and a pokeball plus charge stand?

Taking into account the following:

1) ebay prices are ridiculous

2) I lost my job last week and need money

I definitely want to support that Panzer Dragoon remake, but the colours and artwork in general don’t seem to have quite captured the atmosphere of the original. If it plays a good game of Panzer Dragoon I’ll still be happy enough, but it would be good if you could apply SotC Remake style filters to adjust the visuals.

Who’s buying it?

I'm going for the Limited Run physical release. So by the time my copy arrives it'll probably have already been half price in a sale.

A man after my own heart. I only finished this a year ago, too soon for a replay?

Just realised it’s the first game that’s been remade isn’t it?

I have the Wii U one but only gave it 20 minutes or so (think the doorbell rang and distracted me).

Is the first one the better game; think I read that somewhere?
