The most common setup I'm hearing is that folks set their 'regular' switch as secondary - because it's at home in the dock and thus pretty much always connected and online. They they have a Lite that they set as primary - this then doesn't need to be connected online at all.

 

People are absolutely game sharing using this setup - using different accounts on each device:

 

I think the problem you are having is because you are trying to take an individual online membership, tied to a single account, online in two places simultaneously. That's clearly not going to work. You'd need a family membership I guess (or two individual accounts on both machines which both have online subscriptions), so that both machines can be online at once and then can access whatever games are in the library (the primary account used to purchase the games needs a profile on each of the devices).

Mine seems to be. It's smaller so it feels a bit sharper as well. You might struggle with games with really small text though.

I only played the first one on the DS and really enjoyed it.
