is that not turned based combat

Yeah it is so if that’s an issue for you then maybe it’s not for you either - but between that and Witcher 3 I’d say you have both the best Western and Japanese RPGs on the market to choose from on Switch.

Really? Her reading is pretty good but she still struggles occasionally - I was thinking of getting both versions and we could play it together.

My daughter played through Pokemon Y when she was 5/6. It did wonders for her reading. She then did Moon when she was 7/8.

I’m tempted by Pokemon. Here’s a potentially daft question but I don’t know because I’ve never really played one, but is Pokemon suitable for a 6 year old or a bit too advanced?

It’s perfect for them.

My Pokémon obsessed pair have been playing since they were about 4 and 6 (now 7 and 9) and are well still obsessed.

So yeah it'll be perfect for them.

Like deKay says it helps immensely with their reading - although to be honest I think Alex got as much out of the catching and battling mechanics when he first started playing (as he could barely read at that point) and just needed a bit of help in places.  He actually finished Sun before his older brother did.

Yo Kai Watch is/was also a huge hit with my pair - although no sign of the translation of 4 as yet (much to the kids chagrin)

Awesome thank you both for your replies, we already have a nice library of games to play on Switch but I’d like to get her something new she can call her own to go with her Lite. Animal Crossing was my initial choice but, delayed. Pokemon could be the one :)

The youngest got Yoshi has 'his' game when he got his Switch Lite last month (both the eldest and I already have full Switches and our library is 95% cartridge making game sharing less problematic) but to be honest he's spend most his time with Mario Maker 2 and Lets Go Evee (the eldest has Pikachu so he's appropriated my copy of Evee) since getting the console.

Can not tell you how hyped they both are for Sword/Shield however...I seriously think if Junior Mastermind returned the youngest could win with the Pokémon series as his specialist subject - this is what too much You Tube does to you I guess

I had to get myself a Lite as the boy has basically made the Switch his machine.

I’ve not been the biggest Switch fan, but when looking at my home screen this morning and seeing Breath of the Wild, Link’s Awakening, Dragon Quest XI, The Witcher 3, Final Fantasy XII, Divinity Original Sin 2, Baldur’s Gate, Astral Chain, Tetris 99 and Mega Man X Legacy Collection I realised this might be the best console I’ve owned.

My second set of Joycons have now started to drift to the left, and it's getting really annoying and tiresome.  Cleaning them once in a while is basically just a temporary solution and I can't be fucked to take them apart to maybe fix them.

So I've just gone ahead and ordered the officially licensed HORI Switch Split Pad Pro:

Reviews so far have been very favourable, and as I mainly play in handheld mode these seem like a perfect (and hopefully longer-lasting) replacement.  The lack of rumble and gyro isn't a dealbreaker for me anyway as not many games take advantage of that functionality.

Here's a review if anyone is thinking about getting them.  I'll update with my feedback once they arrive:

That thing looks ridiculous. Should see if they do a screen magnifier and light to go with it. Maybe some pop out speakers.

So this thing finally arrived and I've been playing the Switch exclusively in handheld the last 5 days or so just to fully test it out.  And the bottom line is that it's truly awesome and well worth the purchase IMO.

The Hori Split Pad is so comfortable to play long sessions on and I was really surprised that it was so light.  The thumbsticks are really well designed - a lot bigger and therefore more precise - ideal as Overwatch just got released.  I also tried out the dpad with the only fighter I have (DBFZ) and it feels perfect.  There are additional buttons on the back that can be programmed but I haven't made much use of them till now.  The build is quite solid, but that's to be expected as it's actually licensed by Nintendo.

The initial shock at the size of the controllers is soon forgotten about (especially if you have big hands) and I don't think I'll be able go back to the Nintendo Joycons anymore.

Highly recommended.

Although I love the Switch, one thing has been bugging me more & more about it as the number of games i have downloaded into it swells more & more.  Is it still the case that if the unit was lost or broken, I would have no way of reclaiming my library without going directly to Nintendo & pleading my case, even if I do have Switch Online?

And if that is the case, would dividing my library between 2 units (a regular Switch & a Lite, or a Pro if that ever emerges) offer any benefit?  For instance, would the fact that I would still have access to my Switch games on the non-lost/non-broken unit make de-authorising the lost/broken one any easier, or would it be just as much a pain, only alleviated by still being able to play my games while it's sorted?

It's account-based so you'd just buy a replacement console and re-download everything you've bought through the store.

If you get a Lite alongside your main one you can't play the same game on both at the same time, but if the Lite is your main machine it won't have to do the online check thing.

So yeah as long as you know your store login details you're good :)

That's how it works on the likes of PSN, so i'm glad that Nintendo has finally caught up.

It was the System Transfer I did between the old & new Switch that got me worried that that was the only way to transfer a account, like it was on the 3DS.

Yeah, like you I don't think I'd have bought a Switch if it didn't have the account system.

I'm working from home today and I made the mistake of a) checking my bank balance which isn't as bad as I thought it'd be and b) looking at Lite deals at Currys which is 10 minutes away from me. I have a normal Switch already and I really really don't need a Lite.

But also I definitely do.

You get 6 months Spotify free as well so that's like actually saving me money right since I already subscribe? Right?

Sorry if I missed an earlier post but why buy a Lite when you already own a Switch? Isn't the lower weight the only benefit, and the difference really isn't that much?

(But I also admit to being tempted anyway. I bought a Micro just because it was micro).

It's a tiny, tiny bit of of a faff undocking it and putting it in its case and taking it to work / on trips and then putting it back again when I get in. That's it really. Bit bulky to play on a train I guess?

Yep the Lite is just smaller and lighter, though I can just keep it in my bag. Oh and it means I don't have to quit a game I'm playing on my main Switch if I fancy playing something else.

I really genuinely don't need one, I live alone so it's not like I'm ever unable to play the main one. I'd also have to get another memory card & case...

I’ve posted this comparison before, but the size difference makes it worth it for me - much easier to fit into my work bag now!

i bought a kit off ebay, going to try and replace the sticks. Can't imagine it being that difficult to replace the stick - might be worth a try yourself?

Apologies if this has been asked a zillion times before, but my Right Joycon stick is broke.

Feels like debris is in there and it won’t click anymore.

Is compressed air worth a shot or is it likely nackered?

Titanfall running on xbox360.

If they got Witcher 3 and Overwatch running I reckon this could be possible, though I guess detail on far off targets could be an issue,

And EA not bothering and not enough people caring of course. But other than that...
