I can't play AR games on public transport and that didn't really stop all the handheld platforms supporting AR.

They supported it, but not many games had it as their core feature.

I doubt Nintendo will try and promote waggle gaming on the move as its core feature either. The whole purpose of it, from my understanding, is that it provides a variety of control methods depending on your situation. So you might be able to play Wii Sports with touch screen controls on the move, or sticks/buttons, and waggle whilst in a more suitable environment such as the living room.

Is this stuff really that hard to understand?

I can see Nintendo quietly putting the Wii/ Wii U and DS/3DS period to pasture for a while. Backwards compatibility with the Wii is going to be difficult due to the change in processor, the Wii U, DS and 3DS will be difficult due to hardware limitations of dual screens. It would also explain the rumours of some titles being remastered/updated for the NX (Splatoon and Smash Bros - which can both be played on a standard controller setup).

Although I still like the whole "motion" controller idea, a big criticism of the Wii U was the confusion of control. Touch screen, gyro, motion plus, nunchuck, pro controller. Getting back to a single controller method would fix that.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they played on nostalgia for naming. Gameboy NX for handheld, NES NX for home console base station.... ;-) Well the success of Pokemon Go and the interest in The NES mini shows there's a hunger for Nintendo nostalgia and they'd be able to capitalise on it.

Nx won't in the console name surely?

Its just a codename.. although Nintendo NX doesn't sound bad..

Nintendo have always had these... Project dolphin, Project Reality/Ultra 64, Revolution, Project Cafe etc none of which ended up being the final name.

It's blatantly just going to be called the Nintendo X because it's the tenth platform they've made.

I - NES

II - Gameboy

III - SNES

IV - Gameboy Advance

V - N64

VI - Gamecube

VII - DS

VIII - Wii

IX - Wii U

X - NX

This is probably wrong, I don't know anything about video games.

Oh my.   This is a videogaming forum you know, this list was always going to be destroyed.

GBC was a platform, DSi was a platform, new 3DS is a platform, obviously Pokemon Mini like everyone said, Famicom Disk System, 64DD, what were you thinking?

Super Game boy

Satellaview.

Triforce

Oh and Wii Fit is a platform. Literally.

Mario and Pokemon coming to NX within 6 months of release apparently.

Hopefully a proper 3D Mario :)

Considering they say it's Game Freak who's doing the developing: maybe a third version of Sun and Moon or a remake entry.

I'm expecting Mario to mean Mario Kart. 2017 is the 25th anniversary of the series.

No sources stated for that - it's a made up "story". Again.

When a random blog quotes "sources", then yeah, you should be sceptical. But actual journalists do have anonymous sources, and they do pass on correct information. There have been plenty of instances in the past few months where games industry sources have passed on information that proved to be completely accurate in the smallest detail.

GBC, DSi, new 3DS are hardware upgrades, Pokemon Mini doesn't exist, disk systems, modems & hardware emulators are peripherals and the Triforce is a fictional relic from the fantasy gaming series "The Zelda Chronicles".  None of those are platforms in their own right!  This theory is so on the money.  I might actually put some money on it.
