yeah - the first one in the room didn't do his jumpy attack for some reason... regardless of how often I tried to get behind him.  Then this morning they started doing flying kicks and then I realised I could get them when they turn yellow.  Battered Ridley on my second go by focussing on using the charge beam first instead of spamming my missles.

Then the fucker has stolen whatever was in the room!  TROLLED!  I was expecting some kind of suit to help me through the lava.  I had to check online to find out how to get out of Norfair.  I'd been at that bit with the hidden wall a few times.  TBH - I think that's a bit of a dick move by the designers there.  Working my way back to my ship and I grabbed the 'hilariously' named Spazer.  I'm now unstoppable.

I'm glad I went back to this... I knew it was a real game but life was too short for me to put up with some of the more frustrating parts.  I've got no shame in using rewind and save states given it's my third full attempt at it. :D

Heh, well it's a run to the finish now, or you can travel around and mop up some items. There are some nice puzzles to solve still. :)

This is the last hurrah for SNES anyway and the very, very, very final time I replay Super Mario World, A Link to the Past and Super Metroid. Probably.

as long as there is a Nintendo console, it will never be the last hurrah for the SNES.

When we're all suiting up in our N-Suits to enter Nintendo VR or plugging the NNN (Nintendo Nural Network) directly into our brains, you can bet that somewhere, somehow, in those Digital Worlds you'll be able to play Super Mario World & Super Metroid.

I suppose this will be exciting to only a few forumites, but In The Hunt has been announced as one of the upcoming games in the arcade archives series for the Switch.

I think we’ll see one retro platform added each year for the anniversary of the launch to get people to resubscribe. This time next year you’ll all be buzzing about online Mario Kart 64.

I'd actually rather have DKR than Mario Kart 64. Its standard multiplayer options weren't great, but I have incredibly fond memories of playing through adventure mode with a mate in co-op (you had to use the JOINTVENTURE cheat code to unlock it). Why Rare decided to put an entire feature like that behind a cheat code I will never know.

My top 5 N64 online multiplayer wishlist would be:

1. F-Zero X

2. Goldeneye 007

3. Wave Race 64

4. ISS 98

5. Diddy Kong Racing

If we get an N64 one, it'll be this list:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_for_Wii_(North_America)#Nintendo_64

Can't see any others appearing.  TBF - that's a fuck of a list, but they'll need to do some real work on the emulation because, unlike the best SNES 2D games - most of these will have aged terribly.

At some point we're going to see a Gamecube emulator....

Star Fox 64, 1080 and Ocarina and Majora then we're golden

The SNES Mini will be around longer than the Switch online service – and you can add your own games to it.

This is interesting. How long were the Wii and WiiU supported online after their demise?

It's a shame you can't buy the SNES `app` including the games for a nominal fee. Even £20 to guarantee future access

Wii online shop was closed down earlier this year if I recall correctly.

the shop was closed down, but your downloaded games are still there.  Same with the WiiU.

After Super Metroid, I'm tempted to go back to Metroid Prime on the Prime collection on the WiiU - although I'm hoping we see that re-released on the switch.

The very last dick move by Super Metroid designers - the unavoidable Mother Brain beam that can actually kill you.  Some energy drops would’ve been nice to stop you getting past and impossible point. A few times I had two blocks of health left and that’s not enough.

It won't be the same on the Switch without the amazing Wiimote controls. Play the Wii version.

I do wish I’d had a SNES when Super Metroid came out. I can totally understand why folks who played that to completion back in the day would hail it as a best ever. I would’ve spent hours and hours puzzling about how to get to Meridia or how to get out of Norfair, about what those jumping monkey things were all about. But I’m really glad to have been able to play through it. I’ve got a save right before the end and I’ll be going back to 100% it.... like I did with Zero Mission and Other M.

No reason the Switch couldn't support pointer controls.

My worry is that Corruption won't be playable using Prime/Echoes default controls.... rumours abound though that the conversion exists and has done for a while.  I imagine Nintendo are just sitting on it until the time is right to start building hype for Metroid Prime 4.

Every implementation of pointer controls I've tried on Switch has been awful. The JoyCon alone aren't up to the task. Needs a sensor bar, really.

I've only tried the implementation in Labo - works well enough there....

How does the original Prime benefit from pointer controls? I cant remember much free-aiming; I remember really appreciating that it was mostly lock-on for the combat.

Lock on is retained, but you get the liberation of free reticule movement on top of that, the ability to smoothly shoot things with accuracy around the screen, and that awesome feeling that you actually have the Arm Cannon. The gameplay flows better and there's a real sense of being more in control. The game inevitably becomes a little bit easier, which could be seen as a bad thing I suppose. Been playing it a bit recently on PC with a dolphin bar. It's still magnificent, although the escape at the start felt a bit too slow and the boss fights haven't really got going yet. Not sure there has been a game more immersive outside of VR. I was sucked straight back into that world. It looks great in HD and the music is stunning.
