I really hope it isn't a handheld/living room console combo. For me personally, I've got zero interest in handheld gaming, so I'd be paying for a portion of a console to support a useless feature, which will undoubtedly cripple it in some respects, compared to if they just released a dedicated home console.

Looks like I'll never get to play the next Zelda at this rate.

No need. I'm just as excited for more of the same Mario Kart since 1996.

Must kill you to have a games company consistently making great games based around an initial concept - maybe you just prefer games to get shit over time because you love the hope that maybe the next one will be as good as the first one or at least not as bad as the last one, its always the hope that kills you :(

The big question that no one has answered is... how big a space to I need to clear under the telly for the NX?

I just wish we had Diddy Kong Racing style adventure mode to make it even more amazing.. I loved MK8 as much as anyone else, but only the GBA version before that and N64 before that. To me the series was becoming stale.

On a more general level though I do want more IP's out of Nintendo.

I'm half wondering if Pokemon Go hasn't completely ended the idea of Nintendo releasing their own dedicated handheld games machines.

I think it will mean the sales of Pokemon Sun & Moon will be through the roof, and that they'll be wishing they'd delayed those for NX.

Great clickbait by that rag Eurogamer though, ad revenue will be through the roof.

Getting secret information sought after by every games source out there via a network of carefully cultivated sources is click bait journalism in your universe?

If they call it the Nintendo Go, the cartridges can be known as Go-carts!

Also would it be possible for the main device to have an underclocked graphics processor which can then be fan cooled by the docking station and thereby allow it to run say 30% faster to process the jump in resolution etc for the larger TV screen?

Sales of already released Pokemon games have spiked this week already!

I'll buy Nintendo machines for as long as they make them, but I do think this sounds rather wank.  I'm not really getting the 'why'.

I think the 'why' is the cost of game production. A small company like Nintendo can't afford to create content for two separate machines.

Give 'em a fucking Pulitzer Prize.

Does this mean we will finally technically be getting a proper pokemon game on the home console via the NX? Something I hoped for when I was a schoolboy.

Glad this means that they are ditching the DS handhelds, never been a fan of them; too underpowered, and the dual screens and stylus are novalties I never warmed to.

Actually nintendo has been saying that the NX won't affect their handheld line.  This could either mean they still plan on releasing games for the 3DS, or they're still planning another handheld release.

If the NX is what we believe it is then any new handheld would directly compete with it.

Sounds like standard statement to me, file it under the one in which Nintendo said that they will continue to support the GBA when the DS was announced.  They won't say that they'll be dropping the 3DS and damage its future console and precious charger sales.

You bought an Xbox One.

Which part of my Xbox have I paid for that I don't use and has crippled it?

He seems a bit confused.   The new info is apparently both 'bullcrap' and a strategic Nintendo leak.   Of course elements of this have been floating around forever along with every plausible variation.

I suspect Eurogamer are correct just by the way they seem so confident.  Someone they trust has leaked it to them.

People on GAF are saying software will be built around handheld pick up and play more. I wonder if Breath of the Wilds 100 small shrines instead of hour-long dungeons are designed with that in mind?

It makes me wonder what happens to handheld software, are they finally going to make a 360/PS3 quality level Pokemon, push it as digital only, or have that stuff go to smartphones?

I'm not sure DS/3DS games have ever been especially 'pick up and play' (in the manner phone games are).   Lots of the best experiences on Nintendo handhelds are long-form RPG and strategy games.    I don't see anything about Zelda that's incompatible with that.   All they need is a robust instant/quick save system.   Obviously the DS/3DS machines had that by simply closing the clam shell.

Hahaha really Jon?

I take it you're on about Kinect, but I didn't want to assume.

As shit an idea as Kinect has always been, I don't have one anyway, so it's not something I've paid for that I don't use. And didn't they remove the requirement of leaving some processing power for it a while ago, so devs could choose to do what they wanted.

I don't think either of those things were as big a technical hit to the Xbox as running the NX on mobile chips will be for me though, seeing as I've got no need for handheld gaming.

Seems I'm in the minority though from my post last night and most people seem quite happy with these latest rumours.

For me though, I just want to play the new Zelda on my living room TV as good as it can be.

That doesn't mean too much, a year ago the talk was of Nintendo looking to best the PS4 and people "in the know" were gushing about their play for the core market.

The form factor thing with hints to android seems to be the only thread that survives now.

Whether or not you have one, it had an impact on the design of the system yet you still bought one. For the record, I have an Xbox One and I don't have Kinect. I bought it anyway, like I assume you did, because it had games that made it worth buying.

The rumours say the mobile chipset will give you Xbox One competing performance. So either it's a barrier no matter what, in which case RIP your Bone, or you'll get it anyway for the games so don't be melodramatic :P

I'm not excited about the rumours and I'm more worried about the cartridge rumour than anything else at this point. Until we see this docking solution then it's pure speculation based on conjecture.

Nintendo need to announce the platform already, shit name and all, because otherwise they're going to be swamped by Neo, Scorpio and the new Apple gadgets and they're back to selling it to people like me who'll buy whatever they sell. As the Easy Allies podcast put it, they could sell us a ball of nails and we'd swallow it. Their problem is there are only a few million of us idiots.
