I think you're getting hung up on the specifics of my comment, I'm suggesting that the mobile component offers a subset of the total experience. Do you think that having Nintendo merging the handheld and console divisions is 'daft'? Do you think that selling Super Smash Brothers and Hyrule Warriors on Wii U and 3DS is 'daft'? Also, why not offer an interesting counterpoint instead of tediously dismissing someone else's contribution as 'daft'?

Do we even know if the base/docking station anything but just that? As in, it only charges the battery not provide more graphicz and fidelitiez?

Yes but the name "gameboy" is exclusive, as in it's excluding girls. Any PR firm would tell them to not go back to it.

I get that but I doubt the the brand radiates such sexist connotations. It never stopped girls getting into portable gaming. In fact, I seem to remember Nintendo stating how it successfully targetted female players with the console. I think it ended up being a near 50/50 split in the end.

Hey ho, I'm not expecting Nintendo to do it. I would tho and I love PR!

No, Resi 5's problems are DirectX related.

3GB of memory to work with and they produced a game that looks worse than the Xbox 360 version. That's got to go down in history as one of the worst ports ever.

Eurogamer say it definitely lets you play the games on your TV. Everything else is our speculation.

Neither SSB or Hyrule Warriors is a "subset" it's the entire game. You've provided two excellent examples that Nintendo doesn't do what you're suggesting.

One other thing to consider... Since this is cart based then it's not going to have any physical backwards compatibility.

But that means people will have to buy Nintendo games they already own if they want to play them on a different platform before! I cannot imagine they'd ever try that!!!

Both Smash Brothers and Hyrule Warriors are cut-down experiences on the 3DS. Source: I've played them.

In what way apart from graphical performance?

Enjoying Hyrule Warriors on my new 3ds lately. Extra content welcome. But I do wish it was prettier.

Just imagine the horror if they would make the digital library compatible instead! Oh wait…

I know dis but I'm wondering how extra horsepower would work when the handheld is already using a mobile chipset. Surely they would want to keep the cost down so everyone and their mum can buy one. Having more GPUs squeezed into the base station would certainly drive the cost up.

To put it back in the WiiU context, Nintendo are not going to follow up a console that looks like a tablet but only works indoors with a console that looks like a tablet but only sort of works outdoors. That's actually worse.

This concept is fascinating although I've no idea why I'd want one apart from gadget lust. Should be an interesting sell to the general public. A cheap price point is probably a necessity although the PS4 and Xbox One aren't that expensive now, so how cheap can a NX be?

I'm liking the sound of this. I'd hope there is some kind of extra special sauce in the base unit to Oomph up the visuals for the home. I'm hoping that there is something that two controllers will connect to in the home to make it feel more like a normal pad, but I also like the image below as it looks like they could be used individually like Wii Remotes.

No, this is how I'm expecting the division between mobile and console portions on the NX to work.

The division will be the resolution between portable and docked. Apart from that it's likely the same experience.

Now THAT makes sense.  I get it now.

The Controllers make me think of the VR controllers for vive and oculus.

The Division will be ported so Ubisoft look like they're interested in case the NX does well, then when no-one buys it because it's two years old they'll blame Nintendo.

If it has Nintendo games and Japanese third party support I'm fine with it.

Hopefully they will sell extra controllers so 4 players can play locally - that's why I had kids dammit!

My main concern will be how durable it will be.

As as for graphics, I expect 720p (if not 540p) when in handheld mode with medium graphics, and higher settings and proper clock speed when docked. Just remember how gorgeous many Wii U games look, Nintendo is great with getting the most from low specs.

(and release a new excite truck!)

This all sounds like a clusterfuck to be honest.

Nintendo need to announce it because the months of speculation will do my head in.

EG say it's going public in September which isn't too far off.

It sounds good, they'll have to compromise a bit on the control portion though, as handheld doesn't translate well with home console controls - we expect more comfort whilst at home, so small flat pieces of rectangle isn't going to bode well for long play sessions.

Of course they'll probably just release a shit ton of controllers like with the Wii and Wii U

I must say this move makes sense: Nintendo is never going to compete with Sony and Microsoft on the console front but is still very strong when it comes to handheld. They're basically merging all their strengths on the home and handheld front into one (probably/hopefully inexpensive) machine. It already sounds to me far more appealing than the Wii and Wii U ever were.

What were you expecting?

I never know what to expect from Nintendo any more but I did think the following would be true:

- they would be keenly aware that the technical expectations have a minimum (games, features, etc) threshold

- they need to at least make it easy for third parties to bring their titles across

- that the people who will buy Nintendo products regardless are not enough to sustain them in the market

- they are really, really playing catch up these days.

Their messaging has to be on point, their games have to be really competitive and the machine needs to be comparable with the others. I mean online, the storefronts, social, the things everyone else does as standard, let alone graphical and mechanical parity.
